We just returned from a 7 night trip to Iberostar Grand. Prior trips were in 2010 and 2013 - 7 nights each. The resort is beautiful, the beach is gorgeous and the staff is excellent. We have many trips under our belts at Iberostar Grands in Mexico and Jamaica. We love the consistency.

The food was good but not great this trip. I believe this is more that it's become too familiar to us, and not the resort itself. Can you imagine overdosing on lobster? The Japanese restaurant is highly recommended.

Our room was cleaned three times every day complete with fresh flowers, fresh towels, mopped floors, fresh pillows and turn down service with chocolates. As repeat guests, the red carpet is rolled out. Gifts as well as a welcome "home" reception. Additionally, our butlers for the week were great as usual.

Wifi reaches out to the beach so feel free to bring your tablet for reading and surfing while getting your tan. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment.

Room Tip: All rooms are good - you won't be in there much.

Our 3rd stay at a Grand with another great experience.
1. Facilities and Grounds: fantastic as usual, maybe a little fresh coat of paint could be used in the rooms. The beach and ocean at this location was superior to Jamaica and Mexico with plenty of seating. Golf course was a gem and in perfect condition.
2. Food: pretty good and with an excellent drink selection
3. Service: Butler service was a huge disappointment as it was a significant selling point of the other Grand facilities. I will say that all the ancillary staff were exceptional especially Gerald "G" in the cigar bar and Victor in the lobby bar.

Would recommend these facilities to anyone. We plan on a return trip around the holidays.

From the moment we got to the resort, we knew we had chosen the right place to vacation. The staff was super friendly and greeted us with a cool towel and a non-alcoholic piña colada (I see that some complain that there's not any rum in the welcome drink but seriously...there's plenty of alcohol to go around for the rest of your stay so no complaining necessary!) which was refreshing after a long stay at the airport due to a luggage issue!

The front desk help---amazing English language skills-- (Juan Carlos) was fabulous and they upgraded us to a room on the first floor facing the boat as opposed to other side facing a neighboring resort. We loved our room, 7011. People complaining about the lack of privacy on first floor rooms neglect to say that you have motorized blinds that can be used in the restroom to create privacy. We never had any trouble with this. Our room was spotless all the time and Yudith, our housekeeper, was wonderful! She decorated our bed daily with rose petals and chocolates, which was a nice touch. Once we even forgot to lock our safe and we came to the room after a long day and we had a note saying that security had locked our safe and to call them to unlock it. When they arrived to unlock it, they asked that we check to make sure everything was in it's place and it most certainly was. They take this very seriously!

Our butler, Jose, was great! He got us reservations at the Japanese restaurant and the Surf and Turf. He was having a little difficulty with reservations because there were some closures due to a wedding booking at one of the restaurants BUT a quick talk with Marco and Jheronmey (the concierge) got us squared away for the rest of our time! The Japanese restaurant was definitely our favorite (close second was the beach restaurant) however the others were great with wonderful service, too!

The Star Friends were wonderful at trying to get you involved at the resort! If you'd like to just sit on the beach ALL day long with a drink in your hand, no problem! BUT if you'd like to learn how to salsa, mambo, take a yoga class, have a 10 minute free massage, play volleyball or learn archery, etc you have the option to! Marianela, Margarita, Ayendi (Boom Boom) and Tommy were amazing at making you feel welcome and trying to include you in the activities at the resort! These employees work SO hard and for many hours and days at a time, so please don't forget to tip them. If you don't want to participate in an activity that the Star Friends invite you to, don't be rude to these kind folks....just say not this time and they'll kindly move on to the next person. They truly made our say wonderful and we hated to say goodbye!

The restaurant staff at all of the restaurants were wonderful and attentive! Yes, there are some employees with limited English BUT remember, you're not in The USA or other English speaking countries so use that High School Spanish you learned all those years ago! :) Also, just a simple please and thank you go a long way, along with a tip for those who help you.

I've read that some folks complain about the drinks varying in strength of alcohol. If getting toasted on vacation is of great importance to you, then this place isn't for you. If you go to the Lobby Bar, Victor will hook you up but seriously I'm happy that the drinks weren't too potent, otherwise there would have been MANY more drunk people around this classy place since drinks are available ALL day and ALL night long.

Some tips:

**If you need additional cash while you're there, just go to the front and take a golf cart to the next resort and they'll gladly get you to the ATM (the ATM only gives out pesos). To get smaller bills for tipping, ask the front desk (though earlier in the day is best for this since they have so many people asking to make change).

**The grounds of this place are impeccable! The gardeners are always out working to insure everything is spotless. If you find a gardener outside working on trees you might even be able to get him to cut you down a coconut and open it for you to have a drink of fresh coconut water---you can ask the bartenders to dress it up for ya too. :) (please tip this hard working guy!)

**This is a 5 Star resort that is super clean but even so, your tummy may not agree with everything. So bring some Immodium and Peptobismol for just in case. The store at the resort has these for purchase but just bring some along for a just in case. :-)

**We ventured out to two of the other Iberostar resorts nearby (once for the ATM and once to go to the truly sad casino.) If you can splurge to stay at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro, please do! We heard from some other folks that they were not pleased with these other resorts and from what we could tell in our time at the other ones, there is a marked difference for what you get for your money. In this instance you definitely get what you pay for!

We absolutely LOVED this resort and cannot wait to return or go to and other Iberostar Grand.

We have travelled to the Dominican Republic and Mexico many times, staying in adults only resorts including Iberostar Grand Paraiso, Excellence and Secrets. This is the first time we have gone in June, as we usually like to travel to resorts or Caribbean cruises to escape the cold in Ontario. On this trip, we travelled with another couple and overall had a very good time.
Starting off on a positive note, we thought the resort was very clean from the rooms to the restaurants and public washrooms. As others have mentioned, the thing that could be improved from a cleanliness point is the carpet in the halls. This didn’t really bother us, as we usually walked outside to get where we wanted to go. Overall the food was very good and I enjoyed a variety of seafood and meats. A special mention has to go to the Kobe beef from the Beach House restaurant which was one of the best steaks that I have ever had anywhere. What really sets the Iberostar Grand resorts above the other resorts that we have visited is the included wine menu. Rather than just the house wine, if you ask for the wine menu, there are about three pages of wines that are included in the front of the menu. There are also ones that you have to pay for further on, but they all have prices listed so you can’t confuse them with the included ones. We found several reds that we enjoyed and I wish that other resorts would follow this practise, rather than just treating drinkable wine as a profit centre.
We loved the beach, and we had no problems getting a front row palapa at 7:30 each morning where we would stay until 1:00 – 1:30 when we would pack up and leave for lunch. Drink service was often slow on the beach, but the pool bar was close, so you could always get a drink quickly if you wanted one. After lunch, we would go to the pool bar for the afternoon. We brought pool floats from home, and I would recommend this because the supply is very limited at the resort. We always had a great time in the pool meeting a number of people including honeymooners and newly engaged couples, and drinking away the afternoon  We didn’t join any of the activities although Boom Boom (in the house) would always stop by for a chat and to see if we were interested. The pool bar occasionally ran out of Grey Goose or Crown Royal, but they were usually replaced the next day. Another item of note, the pool bar closed a 6:00 each day, often leaving dozens of thirsty customers behind. Perhaps the resort could consider a 7:00 closing time for the pool bar?
In my opinion, the only real negative at this resort (and the other Iberostar Grand Hotels) is the requirement for dinner reservations. I understand the resorts perspective, but I prefer resorts that don’t require them. I believe in a resort of the class, if dinner reservations are required there should be enough capacity in for everyone to get a reservation in one of the a la carte restaurants each night. I did email ahead of time for reservations for the 4 of us, but when we got to the resort, the reservations had only been made for the other couple (which I thought strange since I was the one that made the request). However after some discussions with the concierge, the situation was rectified.
It appears that this resort is not quite as “grand” as the Iberostar Grand Paraiso. The rooms are smaller, the public areas not as impressive, and the service is not quite as good. On the other hand, travelling from Canada it was also approximately $600 per person cheaper for the same week and dollar for dollar it was a great experience. It’s the best resort that we have stayed at in DR. We have never repeated a resort yet but when we start, this one will make the short list.

I only have positive comments for this property. My wife and I spent one week here and it was incredibly relaxing.

Room - The room is nice size and was immaculate. Housekeeping kept the room spotless. The bathroom is also a decent size and was also very clean.

The bed was extremely comfortable which cannot be overstated. I have stayed at many nice properties where the bed is either only OK or sub par.

Food - We ate at all restaurants on this trip. The best dinner was at the Surf & Turf. I had the porterhouse and lobster tail which were delicious. Next best was the Japanese restaurant. The Italian and Gourmet restaurants were OK. We also ate at the buffet twice and the food and selection were very good.

If you like Lobster and Steak, you cannot go wrong here. There was Lobster at lunch almost every day and I also had at the buffet for dinner. The restaurant on the beach, where we ate lunch most days, has a grill at the entrance where they cook steak, prime rib, lobster, and shrimp most days. The rest of the lunch buffet was just OK but that did not matter since they had the grill.

Breakfast buffet was very good every day. The selection is broad. The best part was sitting out on the front patio with a view of the beach and ocean.

Pools - the 2 pools are very nice. The water temperature would have been nicer if it was a few degrees cooler, but then it was very hot every day. The swim up bar is at one end of the pool. This was always a popular spot but was never rowdy. If you want a quieter spot all you had to do was move to the other end of the pool. The sound from water falling over the infinity wall made this a very peaceful spot to relax.

There are sunbeds (very comfortable) for two all over the pool plus lounges as well. We went down most mornings around 8 am and there were plenty of available sunbeds. There were always open lounges if you wanted. The towel service also has pillows which I recommend for the sunbeds.

There are servers walking the pool area all day long taking orders.

The hotel should spend some money to fix up the pool area. The sun curtains on the sunbeds need to be replaced and there are many missing tiles along the side of the pools. Certainly not a big deal, but it should be addressed.

Bars - the drinks were very good. Pina Coladas and Margaritas were delicious and cooling. Never a wait for a drink.

Service - the service was outstanding. There are many employees at all locations and they look after you. They do not all speak English so you may have to be patient sometimes. Hardest part was getting ice for the water, but not a big deal.

Entertainment - the crew working around the pools is very nice and they had many different games during the day. Most people just want to relax so they did not get a lot of takers.

There is a nice indoor theater with a show every night. We only went to two of them since they start at 10 and we were tired. The shows we saw were OK but nothing special. If they were better, my wife would have wanted to see more shows.

Beach - I love a nice beach and this location definitely had a winner. The beach is nice and wide, and the water is gorgeous. Much less seaweed here than at other Punta Cana locations. At low tide, the ocean was like a large pond.

You can take long walks on the beach as it stretches on as far as you can see.

There is a commercial tourist shopping area right on the beach, just off property. There are several shacks right on the beach. It has typical touristy things and the workers are pushy but that is the same all over the world. Nice and convenient to pick up t-shirts and such.

All in all, this is the best adult all inclusive we have been to. We have previously been to three others including the Iberostar in Jamaica. We have also been to other all inclusives for families and this ranks right at the top.

Room Tip: 2nd floor or higher facing the pool
