We had requested adjoining rooms or a room across from or next to our adult children and ended up in different buildings which was a bit inconvenient (however, within a few days Juan Manuel Polanco successfully assisted us in being in much closer proximity). Although I don't have high expecations for food at an all inclusive, I was a bit disappointed at the quality and the limited choices which varied very little from day to day. At the buffets I'd recommend the guy making omlets in the am though. We changed things up by booking at the specialty restaurants which were a bit better but still pretty average. There was a nightly 'show' at 10pm which I thought was kind of late for the only offering - it would have been nice to have more entertainment at an earlier hour (or rotating an early night with a late night). The pool (at Caribe) was gorgeous, plenty of lounge chairs even on busy days. One complaint my husband had was the high pressure of those trying to get you to sign up for excursions, etc. They had a hard time taking 'no' for an answer. The grounds were really impeccable and well manicured, yet lush. I felt very safe there - had no problem leaving our stuff by the pool all day as we came and went. Employees were very polite and approachable.

Room Tip: all the rooms seems to have equal pros and cons

My husband, me and our 1,5 year daughter went to Melia in April 2012 for 2 weeks. Location is very good, rooms are very nice, and beach is amazing. We are only not satisfied with the food and service. We had nothing to eat for our kid. However, hotel stays that they have kids service (IT IS NOT TRUE). Hotel did not have ANY food for that age kids. I am not talking about formula or baby food but about general simple food for toddler. Everything was soooo salty (I am using a salt at home for everything but not AS MUCH!). I asked someone to help me to find something simple for kid like mashed potato but they could not. Hotel did not have enough kid’s high chairs- it was always a big problem!!!!

I want to ALERT everyone with kids about the pools. My kid got an infection from a pool. Her all body was in itchy rush with red pimple. We went to local hospital and spend 3 days in nightmare! Moreover, we talked to some parents and they told me that their kids have the same. It is so common there.

The baby sitter service is from 10 am to 5 pm only. Extra time- extra fee. For 1 hour it is $ 10 - $ 20.

My suggestion not to go there with you little one. We had very bad experience!!!!! This hotel is good when you go without little kids.

One more, salesman is working there!!!! They catch you at the first day when you just enter the hotel. They told you that they are going to introduce you the hotel. Make an appointment with you and after they are trying to sell you a VIP rooms, vacation packages in MELIA for the rest of your life for huge price! We spend 2 hours with representative and he did not let us go. It was horrible!!!!!!!!

worst experience ever!

melia - wrong room assigned without apologies, couldnt get in because clerk wrote room number backwards sending us to wrong building/room...manager apologized but the clerk did not. poor food. waiters reach across you while eating to remove items-should let you eat without hovering. guards w batons make sure you tow-the-line, they will promptly tell you "pare" (stop) to get out of pool at dusk. beach was nice. but money may be best spent elsewhere. not very friendly here and everyone is looking for a handout. note: you must put a sign on room door that you want your room cleaned. get sign at lobby desk. otherwise housekeeping will not clean room.

prieto tours - definitely avoid. jungle tour just ok. activities listed were substituted in one case. shuttle service to airport did not show on time. when called the prieto tours representative, Nolberto, he was no help. said "take a taxi" and hung up. sounded drunk. hotel called him back. he again said take a taxi and pay. why should i pay for a taxi when i already paid for a shuttle...prearranged. hotel said to file a complaint to prieto and get money back when in states...sure, like i'd get my money back from this place! called rep again, this time he rejected calls. if your job is the hotel representative for prieto tours do your job and handle business, if you cant handle it then get a more appropriate job and sweep floors. shuttle showed up 40 minutes late and blamed hotel. our form clearly stated pick up time and location (lobby caribe). my advice...save yourself the aggravation and avoid this place especially since no one here takes responsibility.

i was lucky i understand spanish and travelled with a native speaker...reps and staff will speak about you as if you dont understand what they are saying about you. no one here conducted themselves professionally accept a rare clerk and waiter.

This, my second trip to Melia, was just as wonderful as my first. So much so that I look forward to my thrid trip. We enjoyed the beach by day-starting off our day with a mimosa and breakfast on the beach. Then a dip in the ocean followed by 2-3 hour rest with a li ttle light reading. There were plenty of reclining chairs and lots of shaded areas. There were also activities conducted on the beach such as aerobics, dance classes, volley ball and more. There were all kinds of activiies-hair braiding, parasailing, etc.

Room Tip: All room are nice I'm sure but we wanted to be close to beach, the beach buffet and the swimming pools(which means closer to bar services as well). We went all inclusive and of couse that is the only way to go. Although we did not have any small children in our group I did observe a day camp and many activities for small ones.

We just returned on the 7th of December - this is our second visit to Melia and again we couldn't have asked for more. We stayed in Royal Service again as the Gabi restaurant is wonderful for both food and service. Our youngest son had tripped and had a bump on his head and when the waiter at the Gabi saw him crying, he brought him a cloth with ice cubes and a fancy chocolate milk with chocolate swirls and ice cubes - it took the tears away.Juan, our consierge went above and beyond - the last day of our trip was a bit overcast and cool and when we came back to our room in the afternoon, there was a hot bubble bath waiting for us. The kids club was great - we always have a hard time getting our kids to hang out with us when we go to Melia - they would rather go to the club (6 & 8 yrs)....they got to go zip-lining and rock climbing this time - they were thrilled. My youngest wouldn't wear his sandals the first day so one of the supervisors walked him from the club to the pool on his shoulders...... The a la carte restaurants are a lovely break from the multiple buffets and everyone is always so accomodating. My only tip is this; as soon as you wake up - choose your a la carte restaurant for the next evening and make the reservation....waiting until 11am or later and you might not get in. Yes, you do get hounded by the Vacation Club when you first get there (its like they can tell you just arrived) but you just have to politely say no thank-you and they will leave you alone.
