Pros: specialty restaurants were very festive and really delicious, the beach was stunning, the resort was beautiful, the rooms were very nice and comfortable, the staff was friendly and remembered us, there were lots of activities to do, the buffet had a lot of food options

Cons: check in took forever (2 1/2 hrs) and the staff seemed preoccupied and uninterested in assisting us, the buffet food was only ok, the alcohol was only ok and the mixed drinks were way too sweet, they only had presidente beer which wasn't very good, the male staff harassed me and my friend (both 20 year old white American girls) which made us feel very uncomfortable, the restaurants do not serve bottled water so we both got sick from drinking the water they brought us each meal, the pool was really loud with activities and kids so it wasn't relaxing (so go to the beach!)

Tips: take advantage of all of the activities, make reservations at the specialty restaurants (we made 3 reservations the day we got there and then came back the next day to make the rest), DO NOT CONVERT YOUR MONEY TO DOMINICAN PESOS (you do not spend any money at the resort and anything you buy in or out of the resort and the cars and taxis are all priced in US dollars, stay in the resort if you don't want to be harassed by locals trying to sell you stuff, be warned that the evening entertainment is extremely sexual (so don't bring your kids to it and it might make you uncomfortable - lots of sexual dancing and jokes, contests on which girl can kiss the most men, and skits about adultery)

We had been to Atlantis and asked our concierge for something that had lots of entertainment for all ages. This hotel had that. There are many things to do for all ages and they really encourage participating. If you want even more to do there are numerous excursions that are excellent and a sister hotel adjacent that has similar but even more activities.
There were a few negatives.
It is an all inclusive hotel and therefore food quality is NOT Atlantis quality. But then again it is included. There are on property amenities that do not allow you into charge to room. It is not only inconvenient but a rip off when you use a credit card and they use pesos and there "own" conversion rate.
However I would recommend this hotel for fun lovers.

We stayed here three nights in July (short stay since we split our time between two resorts). We had a good time here as we have always had at IB* properties. The grounds were nice, pools were clean and DEEP in places which we liked a lot. Food was good. Booze was ok but not the best. Pool bar needs some help. They wouldn't bring out a blender to save their soul....just not used to that. Any other resort has it going constantly. Lobby bar made up for it though. Better variety of liquor and service with a smile. Staff in general was great. Gabriel is a sweetie and Willo, the photographer is nice to talk with (plus he's good @ his job) Play the games, have a conversation with the staff...it makes the trip more fun!

Beach es muy bonita...just a great stretch of playa. Shops down the line are a hoot. You can really "haggle" for a deal with the vendors (and we did). Beside getting some bargains they made us laugh.

Our room was clean but had a couple issues....safe didn't function well and TV wouldn't always come on. But when we called, they did come to fix pretty quickly. It is true, you cannot adjust the AC but that's ok with me....I don't need it super cold. Actually we didn't even have it on at night....left the patio door open for balmy Caribbean night air...awesome. Left us lovely floral arrangement in our room...nice touch.

If you don't have kids or like to be around them...this may not be the place for you. Knowing full well that it's summer and that changes the demographic substantially....we were still impressed with the sheer volume of small children. There's a mini water park on property that's wildly popular...the little ones looked like they were having a ball. Consequently we did notice a few people with the "wrong color bracelets" coming over to bring their kids to the water fun spot. I watched as the parents tried to get cocktails at the pool bar and were turned away. If you are staying at this IB* you can use the others but not the other way around. They were not shagged away from the water park area and pool though...just didn't get caught. Made no difference to us....just an observation.

All in all...a great resort. We will always be happy to try another Iberostar property because they do not disappoint. If you go...relax and enjoy....

I love visiting Iberostar resorts. The service is great and accommodations are comfortable. I stayed for a week with friends. There are tons of things to do at the resort and quick excursions are fun. I have to say the have the best food around, a little for everyone. If you go find Alexandra Severino who works and is around most of the restaurants. She can help you with a ton. Room service is quick and the staff is very friendly. I would go back without thinking about it. This is also a great place for kids as well. Pools are great and they even have a kids area with shallow water and small slide. I LOVE IBEROSTAR!!!!

Our family of 4 (kids 11 and 8) visited this hotel in July of 2014. This was a nice, clean resort. We had a decent time, but were certainly disappointed by the food. Now, I completely realize this is an all-inclusive resort and not a 1st world country we were traveling to - our expectations had been properly set. But we have traveled to numerous all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean over the years, and this was by far the worst overall food experience. I realize they have a large set of palettes to please, but mediocre didn't come close for us. I'm going to provide various pieces of info to help those traveling to the resort.

The room:
Had a 1 king bed suite that was one of the comfiest beds we've had for a Caribbean resort of this size. We have an extremely soft bed at home, and this was a tolerable bed for us that provided a good night sleep. Some comments mention the A/C. Ours worked fine - but let's set expectations - the room is only going to cool to about 77 degrees. If you are used to an A/C at home that gets your bedroom to 68-70 at night - you are going to get that here. There is a good ceiling fan right above the bed that helps to keep the room cool at night when sleeping. There were 2 110v outlets at the desk and 1 in the bathroom. Note - they are only 2 prong outlets - no ground - so your iphone/ipad chargers are going to work fine, but I saw some posts say to take an outlet strip - and that won't work if you have a 3 prong plug on it. Wifi worked fine in the room and it is free/included. You have to re-login frequently, but we never had a problem with using it. The mini fridge is stocked for you but they only replenish every 2 days. It contained 4 .5L waters, 2 sparkling waters, 2 cokes, 1 diet, 1 Fanta, 3 presidente beers. Also on top of the desk were 3 1L bottles of Dasani water and a bottle of Ron Barceló dark rum. Keep in mind you can't drink any of the tap water anywhere at the resort or on the island for that matter - not even the local residents can. They don't replenish any of the toiletry items in the bathroom. Bathroom is pretty small in size.

The Bars:
We didn't find any bartenders in our 6 days that were overly pleasant/cheerful to deal with - maybe b/c we didn't speak Spanish - but they were overly helpful to any of the other patrons that could speak Spanish. Tipping didn't seem to make any difference either. Tried a couple of times and didn't get any type of appreciation for it which surprised me. I'm a vodka drinker and they had Smirnoff, Stoley, and Absolut. They typically had 4 frozen drink machines at each bar (banana mama, pina colada, lemonade, and coco loco) - these are all alcohol free and they add the alcohol to the drink they pour. Now - you can imagine in the hot Caribbean that these machines work overtime to keep up with the demand - so they can pour as liquid or semi-frozen. They don't like using blenders here at all - very little use unless they have to - so expect a lot of drinks mixed with regular ice. Do take your insulated glass with you. They don't have a problem filling them and they will hold the ice much longer than their glasses. You won't get any pool or beach service. We had one offer on our first day and on our last day at the end of the day. I purposely tipped the guy on the first day to see if he would come back around - never saw him again in 3 hours sitting there - shocked.

Main buffet:
You will get a large set of same selections for a complete variety every night. They do offer some themes. Sunday = Italian, Monday = Oriental / Sushi, Tuesday = Mexican. I found it odd with as much fish and seafood that they offer every day, that they didn't have any cocktail sauce to be found.

Large Grill Wok on the Beach:
This large wok sits behind the main pool building restaurant (same that is used for the Steakhouse at night). Sunday = a potato soup (quite good), Monday = ribeye steaks (no wok), Tuesday = Lobsters in some sauce.

Specialty restaurants. You need reservations. We emailed a couple of weeks ahead and they accommodated us and had reservations confirmed for us upon check-in. They do a really good job of being in the theme of the restaurant - from plates/dishes to the decorations to the outfits the staff wears. I give them good marks on that. Expect slow service - you are on island time - plan for a good wait before you main entrée arrives. I wore long pants every time with a collared shirt, but I saw men wearing shorts in each one as well. They are certainly mixed on enforcing this policy. Our son got away with nice shorts and collared shirt every time with nothing said.
Steakhouse = comparable to Golden Corral quality of meat.
Japanese = we skipped our reservation here because the restaurant had some much smoke in it from the woks you felt like you were walking into a fog.
Seafood/Mediterranean/El Dorado = Best thing to get is the snapper. Poor A/C in this restaurant. It was pretty warm.
Jambalaya = way too salty, even the kids chicken breast. They don't know how to use spices here. We asked to add some spiciness to our dishes and we were brought Tabasco sauce.

Beach:
You have to get up early if you want to throw your towels down and reserve a spot under one of the huts in a good location. The huts are great for providing shade, but get down there between 6:30-7:00 to claim one. The sand is soft and nice. No rocks in the water - except the area in front of the beach soccer section - but either side of that was fine - a complete soft sand bottom area, so not extremely clear due to the churn - and not much to see in the way of snorkeling. They do a good job of cleaning the seaweed each morning. Not that bad - more a small nuisance than anything. Warn your kids of the topless Europeans - you will see them. And not to mention the smoking - even with the wind it was a pain to deal with if you are a non-smoker due to the closeness of the huts.

Dive shop:
Dressel Divers does their dive and snorkeling trips. If you want to compare prices, check out scuba caribe which is down the beach about a 1/4 mile - close enough to walk to each morning. They offer a "free" pool dive which is about 2 mins long to get you hooked. The resort style course is $190 that includes 2 dives. Padi certification course if $550 and takes 5 days if you have time. They offer a 10% discount if paying cash.

Zip Lining:
We signed up in the lobby at one of the booths for the zip lining by Canopy Adventures. Look for my separate review on it. But - please know this - the one way trip is 1.5 hours - so you are looking at 3 hours drive time for about 1 hour of actual zip lining. We did the afternoon trip that left at 1:30 - we got back at 6:40 - keep that in mind if you are making dinner reservations or other plans.

Room Tip: If you want to be by beach/pool - choose a building closer to beach and near the pool and/or beach bar location. Buildings 121-132 (128-131 are ocean front and likely an upgrade). 237-240 good as well - and closer to dive shop and gym if that is more your style.
