This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic – October 18-25, 2013. We went with another couple who had been staying at the Iberostar Dominicana for the last 10 years. We were not disappointed. The pools were perfect, the gardens unbelievable and the food great! The hotel, the restaurants and the grounds were very clean The bartenders Yuleiday #1 and Johnny #10, and were so much fun and added to the great time we had and even remembered what we wanted to drink. Each morning, Duanny was our server for breakfast , and after the first day knew exactly what we wanted. Our room was clean every day and when I requested extra towels they were there within 20 minutes. We did go to the buffet for dinner and was not impressed with the selection, but the specialty restaurants were great. The head bellman, Rolando was wonderful – taking us around (in his Ferrari, lol) and showing us the Iberostar grounds. We even got to spend time talking to Clariber who was working with the different day and night time shows. Thanks for a great time!!!

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor, above the pool - excellent view - didn't hear much of anything.

This past October my husband and I went to the Iberostar Dominicana for a fall getaway. This was our second visit to the resort and once again it did not disappoint. I e-mailed them earlier with a room request and they did their best to accommodate us. The location of the room was perfect..just as requested. We checked in very easily but had a slight problem with our room cards & safe. The staff resolved the problem immediately and we were off to enjoy the resort. The beach,our favorite part,is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are very well kept and a real pleasure to walk through. Always enough food and drinks both of which were always good. My only request is that an Italian specialty restaurant be added. The staff was always smiling and eager to make our stay a great one. So if you love a beautiful beach, good food & drinks, walks through a tropical garden, and a first rate staff...then visit the Iberostar Dominicana...like us...you will not be disappointed. Our next visit to this resort can not come fast enough! Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I've never been to the Dominican. My only South American trip was to an all inclusive in Costa Rica which was a 5 star, Westin all inclusive. It was a lot more money, but given that this is in the Dominican, I wanted to give this a shot. We went with one other couple and we have a mixed review of our trip at the beginning of September, from September 2nd to 9th, 2013. In a one line summary, it's a good beach, nice selection of food, limited a la carte selection, but great entertainment.

I'm going to use and evaluate the trip using the rating system presented here:

Service:

- Service was good in most cases. In the restaurants ALL of the service was great. Bar tenders were very good at all of the bars. The servers were great in ALL of the restaurants. I spoke a little Spanish, but my friends didn't and both of us got the same service. They do appreciate tips. Tip your maid/room cleaner because they appreciate it too. Gifts for their kids and what not are a great idea as well. They made swans for us in the bedrooms and very nice to us in the hallways. Often giving us extra beers and drinks and most importantly, bottled water.

The negative parts I had about the service were that: A) if you use the room safe, you have to pay extra money to use it. That's complete BS. If you have a hotel room, use of the room safe to keep your belongings safe from the hotel employees should be free. It's like $20 to $30 extra. Secondly, the air conditioning in the room isn't climate controlled, the rooms get very humid. Lastly, we requested a room close together with our couple friends and it appeared that side by side rooms was possible however the room they gave us had the king bed whereas the room they had, had two queens. They suggested pushing them together and were very difficult to deal with in getting a room remotely close to us.

Value: Tremendous value. The Dominican has access to 2 of the four resorts along the strip of the beach. Punta Cana and Dominicana are great. YOu can't access the Bavaro or Grand Bavaro but walking along the beach, it's fine. For what you pay, this is a good resort.

Sleep Quality: Again, the room is humid sometimes, but for the most part, very comfortable.

Cleanliness: For an older resort and older building, the staff do their part of keeping the room, restaurants and main areas clean

Location: Located on a great part of the beach. Can't complain.

Rooms: Older rooms if you don't get the suites. I don't know the quality of the suites.

Beverage selection: lots of brand name liquor but you have to ask for it. Tipping is also recommended here. The rum is very good. Mamajuana varies, but also very good. It definitely works. If you want the black label or red label, please do ask. The "house wine" (vino de casa) are very nice too, good for washing down dinner or drinking.

Food: Food was great. Very fresh. Loved the local selection. The BACON and BEEF are all local, grassfed healthy meat. So very good options if you're looking to load up on meat. The bacon was absolutely delicious and the themed night at the buffets was a nice touch.

There are 6 a la carte restaurants and the seafood and french restaurants were the best. The Flank steak was the best cut of steak at the steak house

My complaints: MAJOR COMPLAINT: Regardless if you stay 7 days, you only get 3 a la carte restaurant reservations. That's horrible. You should be allowed to dine at one every night. Eating at the buffet does get very boring after a while, especially for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

MAJOR COMPLAINT: No room service menus or room service period. I'd pay and tip for that, but given it's a big resort I can understand why there is no room service.

MINOR COMPLAINT: In the buffets, if the food has been sitting there, the humidity in the room makes it fall apart and it's not in the best quality if it's a cheese or cold meat. This is especially true at breakfast, but with all of the restaurants (except french) being open air, I can understand why this happens.

NO SWIM UP BAR!!! There should be a re-design in the pool to have a swim up bar you can order from in the pool without having to get out.

For the beach, get out early to secure a good seat. Lots of seats, you'll find one eventually. But to get a decent one, you have to get up early. The watersports are okay too.

The best part of the trip was the entertainment. THe host or main guy who calls himself "Black Panther" is hilarious. You'll know who he is, he's the guy who can't stop saying "shhhoooowwww-paaaahhhh!" and "applauso" "vamos a ver" etc. Great guy, if you want to attend the shows before going to the casinos or clubs, it's not bad.

The club on resort is decent, lots of spanish meringue and salsa, but they do play some top 40.

The casino, there isn't much poker, there is smoking allowed (which is horrible) and there are no shuffling machines. Meaning you can play blackjack, get 21 and end up pushing. Not bad though.

We recently spent a week at the Dominicana. Check-in was smooth and quick. We had emailed ahead of time for a top floor room. Our request was honored with a great location over looking the pool with an ocean view too. The room was clean and spacious, no misty smell. The beach is as good as any that we have been on. If you want a lounge on the beach you need to be there by around 9:00 am. Beach walking was fantastic, either direction. There were some vendors on the beach, but we did most of our shopping at the huts to the south. Be prepared to barter for a good price. On Saturday night they have a beach Party that get started at 10:00 pm. It is a lot of fun! The entertainment staff some days they were very visible, then others we didn't see them to much. There was a lot of beef and chicken choices, but not to much fish. The breakfast was great. Eggs any way you want. There was excellent fresh mango for every meal. Ate at the 2 restaurants on the beach for lunch. Made reservations twice for the steak house and once at the International/Seafood. The steak house was much better. The night shows were the typical, some cheesy, some good. Watched some of the World Series at the Star Rock Cafe, this should be made into a Sports bar. The grounds and pool are kept in immaculate condition. Loved all the wildlife around the resort. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Email your request a week prior. Top floor had a view.

My name is Vladimir. Just came back to New York from 10 days vacation in Iberostar Dominicana @ Punta Cana. Everything was excellent from start to finish. We got a group of 8 peoples (4 couples) ages 50-s and 80-s (kids and parents). Special BIG, BIG THANKS to Eucebio - the front desk Manager, what ever we asked for, was done in a next hour or so. Room cleaning, buffet service, special restourants everything was nice, very friendly people and they are always ready to help.

Room Tip: any room floors 1 or 2 (do not take ground floor)
