The location was perfect. No problems getting beds on the beach, even though people did go early to save them, there were always plenty and also lots of sunbeds around the pools. The staff were brilliant, and there was always some entertainment going on if you wanted to join in. We didn't as we like the quiet life, and you could always find peace and quiet. The bar in the Punta Cana which we liked was a little bit more up-market , but if you wanted to join in the frivolities and shows then you went to the Dominicana. The buffet was excellent with so many choices. The only restaurant which we did not like was the Oriental, but perhaps we were just unlucky. The staff in the restaurants work so very hard and try very hard to please you. If you like beach holidays then I would really recommend this hotel, we stayed in a junior suite upstairs, and it was so quiet-perfect. Lots of lovely gardens to walk around, it was really beautiful.

We returned from the DR on Jan.24th. The Iberostar Dominicana was absolutely wonderful. The staff was friendly and very helpful when called upon. Our maid was wonderful, we left her a tip every day with a little treet. The Star entertainment crew was very energetic and worked very hard to get people involved and have fun. There was a show every night, some very good, some kind of silly. The food was OK, plenty to choose from at the buffet, I would recomend the steak house on the beach. Ladies don't wear heels, the tables are in the sand. I could probably write a book about our trip but to keep it short, I just want to say that if you go with a good attitude, you will have a great time as we did.
You must remember this is not America! We met some great people from all over but Craig and Laura were just really fun to be with.
We used Apple vacations and they were the best. We had a problem with our room when we first arrived and our Apple Rep., Sigfrido Veras, took care of it immediately.
WE would certainly go back again, we never encounterd any of the problems that I read about on other reviews.

We have just returned from two fab weeks in the Dominican Republic.

Food - the buffet was a bit repetitive. It was a shame there that you are only allocated 4 reservations for the fortnight in the restaurants. I can def recommend the Japanese and the Mexican. Alcohol is plentiful and it was great to have branded shorts, Smirnoff Vodka and Bombay Saphire. You can use the Rock Cafe without booking but it is very smokey, our eyes were burning in there, so not for the anti-smokers like ourselves.

Rooms - we had a lovely room, the bed was massive. The mini bar was stocked with Beer and soft drinks. We didi not hire a safe and we just locked our personal possessions in our suitcase which were perfectly safe. Our maid was lovely and appreciated our tip.

Pool - sun beds by the pool and on the beach are plentiful. Can be very annoying though when people reserve beds and then disappear for the day though. The pool are can get very noisy with very loud people. So if you are looking for a bit of quiet you may have to go to the beach, which is lovely, white sands and clear blue seas. We went parasailing which we booked and paid $70 for, worth every dollar.

Staff - the animation team work so hard, so full of energy. The entertainment in the evenings was a bit disappointing. There is also a Casino in the hotel.

Overall a great holiday, I would rate this hotel as a four star and we are thinking already of returning to this area and would look to stay in the Iberostar Grand, looks fab!!

We visited the Iberostar Dominicana from Jan. 2 to Jan. 10. We stayed at the Dominicana several years ago on our first and second visits to the Dominican Republic. After that we stayed at the Bavaro because it was only a couple of hundred dollars more and the rooms were a little bigger and a slight upgrade on amenities. i.e. swim up bar, less crowded, slighly better ala carte restaurants. When I booked this trip for some reason the Bavaro was almost $800 more than the Dominicana for my wife and myself and the difference is certainly not worth that much money. Basically it is the same food, same beach, same drinks and same entertainment. We were upgraded to the jr. suites so we had the same room as the Bavaro. I feel I saved enought to start looking for our next trip.

I can't say enough about the Iberostar resorts and the people who work there. The food is excellent and very safe to eat. In 8 trips there we have never been sick unless you count over eating and over drinking which leaves you a little queezie the next day. But a bloody mary usually gets you right back in the holiday mode. There are so many choices of entres and vegetables there should be something for everyone's taste.

The star friends are great and not pushy. If you want to participate in the activities go for it, if not just say no gracias and they politely leave you alone. Take a minute and talk to them and they will greet you every time they see you.

They have remodeled the bar at the Punta Cana and it is beautiful. In the early evening before dinner they have a band with great music and dancing if you like. We had happy hour there every night. (If you stay at he Dominicana or Punta Cana you get priviledges at both. If you stay at the Bavaro you priviledges at all three)

We were given a tour of the new Iberostar Grand and it is magnificent and luxurious. It is also quite a bit more than the Bavaro and the Dominicana. They have your brand of liquor in the room and a wine list for the room. You get a butler who unpacks and packs for you and a conceirge who looks after your daily activities. They even have a pillow menu!! With all its beauty and luxury it seems out of place. What we like about the DR are its people and "Hola" everytime you greet someone and the music and the fun atmosphere. You don't get that at the Grand. It is very quiet and sophisticated. That would be great in New York or Miami Beach, but not for me in the DR.

We have friends who ask why don't you try a new resort or go to a different place. Our response is if you like something as much as we like the Iberostar resorts and have heard bad stories about other resorts on the airplane home, why chance it. As soon as we get home we start making plans for our next trip. I can't recommend the three hotels more and the Grand if you are so inclined. Take the time to talk to the staff and make friends and I guarantee they will remember you if you decide to return like we have.

Trip was from Jan. 18 to Jan. 25, 2009

First of all I would like to begin by thanking the lady that did our room in 3841. We did not see you but our room was always spotless.
Also to Damaris, Hanle, Renato and Sorangel who were always our servers at the buffet. We were so well taken care of at the buffet that we did not even try to book any of the restaurants.
The food was very good and I honestly could not say that anybody would starve over there. There were food for every taste even diabetics which I saw that they had special jams etc. for them. You could always get the usual pastas, pizzas, hamburgers, hot dogs and of course all the other meals like chicken, pork chops, lots of fish and plenty of nice bread and salads. The desserts were also really good. Anyone that complains about the food has to be a very picky eater.

I would also like to thank Ruben at the front desk. He always had a smile and was always glad to be of help to the clients.

The grounds are spectacular and very well maintained.
The pools are hugh and also very well kept.

Next are the Star Friends who keep the group entertained. They do a great job. If you want to join the group that is great, if not, they don't bug you. They were offering free lessons in archery, gun shooting, skin diving, they had water polo, water arobics as well as arobic besides the pool.
At night they entertained us at the shows which we thought were very good. We did not attend the first 3 nights but would not have missed them after the first one we saw which was the magician.
Bravo to all of you.

We would definately go back without any hesitation as we had a great time. We had been to Punta Cana 3 times before but did not get the service at other hotels as we did at this one. The only thing that I had difficulty with was tht we were not able to get a king size bed. When you are use to having one, it is very difficult to sleep in a regular bed.

I would recommend this hotel to anybody that wants a great holiday.
