If you are american ...realize that the locals move at a slower pace. You are on vacation so slow down. When in Rome ... If you can do that, you will have very few complaints.

An "adult" is 18 years old, FYI. We had hard time finding that fact when trying to determine whether we could book barcelo beach--the sister resort next door. It was cheaper by a lot. You get FULL access to beach and palace if you book at the adult beach resort. Very short walk between the two. Save yourself some bucks!

Beach is topless, although we didn't see many.

There are several group activities, but not as abundant as we have seen at other family oriented resorts.

Bring two more bottles of 50 and 30 sunscreen than you think you will use. Really. The sun is punishing. Was here in June. If you run out you are paying a premium.

Pack band aids. Everyone needed them for one reason or other.

Enjoy. It really was a very nice resort.

Let me first start with we (family) had a great time, there were just a few things I needed to address.Wait time at Hoyo 19 was 1hr from the time we got to the table to the time we got our food. Waiters have a little attidue. Front desk check in was quick, but associate behind the desk was not friendly, I did not get that WELCOME feeling or smile. I'm like whatever, Im on vac, Im not going to let that get to me. out of 11 restaurants we could only visit 4 of them, due to the fact that men need to have long pants and close shoes. I'm thinking, really!, this is beach resort. Food was ok. Our room 8411 was right across the kids pool which was good because we have 3 small kids, but many adults wanted to use the kids slide and the life guard on duty always had to blow whistle. why was were not a sign that says "only for kids", mean really. Hotel events should be posted in more areas and in the room. I always found meself asking what time does this show start, etc. Hotel is wonderful, the beach, the water, the views, all breath taking.

Room Tip: If you have kids or traveling with someone in a wheelchair, please request a ground floor.

The hotel grounds are beautiful. Well maintained and clean around the resort and in the reception area. (This is a reason why the review has a poor rating rather than a terrible rating). The rooms, however, not so beautiful. The rooms were not properly cleaned. There was dirt and dust all over the floor and bathroom sink and shower area. There was mold and mildew left on the tiles and shower door. Additionally, during our week stay the maid service showed up and knocked on our door at 7am! to clean on the days they actually showed up. This is unacceptable while on vacation! We were woken up several times and complained but this was never corrected. Additionally, they never replaced the towels when they took the old ones and never replaced the soap. We had to ask guest services for these items repeatedly. The resort was all inclusive which included those items in the mini bar. However, the mini bar was never restocked. There was one large bottle of water when we arrived and some left over frescas from the previous guests. We drank the water and discarded the used frescas (gross) but nothing was ever refilled during our stay. There were two bars near the pool area and they were short staffed so it took forever to get a drink. When we arrived we were given a tour of the grounds on the way to our room and told there were several restaurants on the premises but we were not give a map of the restaurants or told what kind of places they were or that reservations were required or any other relevant information. We came to discover that all (but one which I will get into later) of the restaurants on the resort required reservations in advance other than the buffet but when we tried to make reservations for more than 2 people at a time we were refused and told it could not be done. When we tried to make several 2 person reservations we were constantly told the restaurants were full and were given time slots of 10:45pm for dinner. Needless to say we ate a lot of buffet due to this issue which wasn't so great but when you are starving and there is nothing open and without reservations your taste buds adjust to whatever food is available. Meanwhile when we passed by the restaurants and looked inside they were always empty. Furthermore, they required dress pants and shoes for men! All of the restaurants had this requirement and this info is not listed on their site or anywhere on the resort. You try to show up with a reservation and you are refused because of your outfit. Ridiculous. It would be fine if one or even two nice restaurants required this dress code but not all of them! Some of our guests had to buy dress pants because they would not even accept dress shorts and collared shirts. By the end of the vacation we started seeing other guests wearing sweatpants and sneakers to the restaurants. So apparently sweatpants and sneakers are ok but not a nice pair of shorts? Illogical. The staff doesn't know how to work with more than a party of 2. One night we had made several 2 person reservations and when we arrived at the restaurant we were told they couldn't seat us together even though many tables were empty. One of our guests ended up pushing the tables together to accommodate us (group of 6) and the staff went berserk and didn't know what to do with more than 2 at a table. This caused delay and commotion for at least 15-20 minutes before the staff figured out how to deal with it. However, on the third night we overheard another guest talking about a restaurant on the other side of the resort by itself. This was called Hoyo 19. What a refreshing place this was!! This is how every other restaurant should have been! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and fresh. No reservations needed and the decor of this place was better than any of the other restaurants on the grounds. (I will rate this restaurant five stars in its own review because this review is based on the resort as a whole hence the 2 star review). The layout of the hotel is confusing. They give you a map of rooms (not anything else) and the resort is very large and rooms are numbered in a strange manner. For example there would be rooms on the map showing 1000-1050 and then rooms 1015-1075. So if you were in room 1025 you wouldn't know which side of the resort you were on based on the info above. Several guests were lost and there was no staff around to help at any time unless you somehow made it back to main lobby. There was a pool which was large and clean, however it closed at 7pm each night and you were not allowed to sit near the pool area after this time. This was terrible. There was also a beach area with nice beach chairs but the one thing that was missing was waiter/waitress service around the pool and beach area. This would be a nice touch. The staff overall was ok. No one was outwardly rude but they were also not rushing to accommodate you which goes against their job of working in hospitality. The maid service was poor. The waitstaff was fine. It is vacation time so you should know what to expect on any vacation. The food was edible but not up to standards of what you expect in a resort except Hoyo was delicious. Breakfast buffet wasn't so bad. They had many options and the food was fresh for breakfast but good luck ever getting a cup of coffee. No one in sight to give you coffee. I will not be returning to this resort in the future.

Just returned from a 5D/4N trip to Punta Cana with family & friends. We all had a nice time at this resort but there are some minor items that should be addressed by the facility. The resort is huge & nicely decorated (there's a train to take you around). The grounds are spectacular, beach is beautiful (sugar white sand), pools were terrific, lots of pretty foliage. Great location for a wedding on the beach (saw a few) & good for families. The rooms were very nice & large. We had a jr. suite deluxe with king bed located in bldg. #5 (#5213). Great building to be in, close to almost everything, esp the adult pool (rent a bali bed for the day), the buffet & the beach. We never heard any noise from outside. Room was always clean with towels & toiletries. Only thing with maid service was our mini bar was never restocked with soda. The resort surprised my boyfriend with a cake & nice bamboo birthday scroll with a letter for his birthday. Very unexpected & greatly appreciated. The Coral Restaurant even surprised us with singing happy birthday to him one night. There are some things that do need fine tuning. The staff is very friendly and, while I know Spanish is their language, speaking & understanding a little English would be more helpful. Occasionally we noticed guests speaking Spanish were getting more attention than other guests. The food was average in all the restaurants & the buffets had a large selection so you can always find something (rum raisin ice cream awesome). The a la carte restaurants were very difficult to get reservations for esp with a party of 7. We were only able to get reservations at 2 restaurants, seafood & steak. We were told all the others were booked unless we wanted to eat really late or split our party & go at different times, however, when you went past them they were half empty. They don't want to overwhelm the wait staff (maybe they need to hire more). Wait staff also needs to put a little more effort into checking on guests once they get there food. Being a tropical resort, the pools need to stay open later than 7-8pm. Pools need to have more wait staff bringing drinks around & the beach needs to have bar service added as well as umbrellas. The casino needs a complete overhaul. The machines are all old, in Spanish, some won't take your money & they pay out in coins you have to exchange. Also, since this is all inclusive, you should not have to pay for room service.

Room Tip: Building #5 is close to everything.

Our family just came from a week vacation from this place and had a great time! All their specialty restaurants are very good. Our favorite is Kyoto. The buffet is good too, but after a week of eating breakfast and lunch there, we found it with the same kind of food every time. It would be nice if they would do a themed lunch each day for a week (We vacationed last summer in Cancun and stayed in an all- inclusive hotel and we like their themed buffet, just a suggestion)The staffs are nice, not as nicer as the people in Cancun though. Few people speak English and those who doesn't try to avoid the guests like a plague. They sure can work on this!
Also, I just hope that they would give the guest a free access to wifi! It is extra to get to be connected. I paid 45$ for a week of connectivity to a fairly decent wifi with only one allowed gadget to hook-up. Yes, they only allow one gadget to be hooked up to the internet. Such a let down! I know that I shouldn't be using the internet while on vacation, but with kids that has nothing to watch but spanish channels on TV during idle hours, it is quite a challenge keeping them entertain. Plus, with the vastness of the hotel it would be nice if you can use your smartphones via internet to communicate like texting specially if you have different families traveling at the same time.
Now, with regards to the beach--- It is topnotch. The water is so crystal clear like no other. The sand is so powdery white and doesn't get hot even on mid afternoon, when the sun is all up!
Overall our experience was great! Would recommend it to everyone!

Room Tip: We stayed at the family deluxe and it was spacious for a family of three.

My family and friends spent 5 days at the Bavaro Palace Deluxe and while we had a good time there were some high points and low points. First I will list the good points: lovely property, nice beach, friendly staff and good air conditioning in all places. Low points: the food was average, there was little to no pool/beach bar service, the casino had antique slot machines and we could not get reservations at the speciality restaurants unless we wanted to eat at 10pm. I had a 2 bedroom family room and while it was nice it was missing a common area to sit and watch tv with the family. You had 2 bedrooms (very nice), a bathroom and a entry way but no common area. This resort is mainly geared to families so if you are looking for a more upscale, adult oriented resort this is not for you.

Room Tip: Families -get the two bedroom family suite. Adults - ask for rooms directly by the adults only pool...

We just got back from spending a week at the Bavaro Palace Deluxe. We had an ocean front junior suite with club premium. Honestly, it is worth every penny. From the check in to check out you get your money's worth. Our room was 30 feet from the beach and 150 feet from the water. (Room 2235) This room is as close as you can get to the water. We did have an issue with the A/C our first night which was aggravating, but the maintenance manager Manuel Espiritusanto (Nickname Franklin) moved us to another room while they fixed our room. Since there were 2 couples, this was very important. His professionalism, pride, and enthusiasm to make things right amazed me. If he ever wanted a letter of recommendation I would gladly give him one. I will say this, the room he moved us to was on the ground floor. I normally do not like the ground floor, but if convenience matters more than view, get the ground floor. Once you walk past your spa and lounge chairs it is just 10 feet to the beach. (Seriously, it is amazingly close) One more thing about the room, it has motion sensors that will cut lights and a/c off when you are not in the room. The A/C cools it right down when you walk back in, but do not expect to walk back into a cold room. Everything about this place was designed for efficiency. The food is what it is. Nothing to get excited about. Our best dinner was at the French restaurant. Our worst was at La Brisa. Another premium restaurant close to the adults only section (pay extra unless club premium) I saw one reviewer talk about the kids, it is not that bad and there is an adults area where you will see people topless. LOL, saw several topless and wished I did not. People, cover up unless you have a great body. The golf course is quite challenging and in very good condition. I took my clubs so I can not tell you about rentals. Also, there is a train that runs continuously around the property. Overall this place is spectacular. It underwent a 250 million dollar renovation a couple of years ago so the place looks brand new even though it is 20+ years old. I would suggest reading Gabriel C's review, awesome review. I would;d highly recommend.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club premium. Junior suites and above are club premium. Room 2235 is away from the noise...
