“Beautiful Hotel - w/ the Best Beach In The Area!”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Just returned 2 days ago from PC and stayed at this hotel for 7 days. The hotel is only about 20 minutes away from the airport so it was a very quick ride upon arrival at PUJ.
Upon arrival, the airport is not what we're used to. After getting off the plane, we had to be loaded into an air conditioned bus to take us to a part of the airport where we pick up our luggage. It was a quick 3-5 minute ride. It was HOT! I mean HOT!!! We knew Aug was a hot and humid month for PC but wow! After all stuff that needs to be done at airport, we found our transfer right away and we're on our way to the hotel.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted and welcomed by the hotel staff and gave us some refreshments. It was a nice of them to do that since it was super HOT. Staff was welcoming and nice. Check in went smooth and it was a 15 minute process. The guy that helped us was really friendly and chatted with me. They were able to accommodate my email request to place us in bldg #3, close to the beach and close enough to main pool and lobby but not too close like bldg #4 (which is next to main pools and lobby) but I think it might be too noisy. The room I was assigned to was a partial ocean view so I politely asked the guy if he had a room that is ocean view and he after checking and going to the back, he was able to find me one at the same bldg. We booked a Junior Suite Deluxe Room. I also asked if I can upgrade to Club Premium but no rooms were available and it was a busy week. So check in went smoothly and up we went to our room. All dinner was pre-booked before our arrival so I didn't need to go guest services to do any dinner booking. Guest services is right next to check in desk.

Restaurants - After checking in and settling in our room, it was already around 4pm so we just went to Strikers for a quick bite to eat since we have reservations at Kyoto at 7:30pm. Strikers is one of the restaurants that does not need reservations and open 24 hrs. They serve pizza, hot dog, ham and cheese sandwich, some kind of steak (and it was good), salads and many more selections. After we ate, I went to guest services just to make sure my reservations I made via email were good and valid. The lady at guest services was nice and she printed out the receipts/vouchers for each night and you just present this to each restaurant.
There's quite a few choices of restaurants at this hotel so I can't imagine anyone saying the food sucks and can't find anything to eat. We tried Kyoto (japanese), Coral Seafood, Santa Fe Steakhouse, Mexico Lindo an we repeated the steakhouse and seafood. We did NOT try the Italian, Spanish and French Restaurant (this one costs extra). My family thought the steakhouse was pretty good, decent Rib Eyes and the Seafood restaurant was pretty good as well, we all ordered the lobster and thought was pretty good. All ala cartes that we went to had good service and service was pretty fast. The servers were all nice an kept refilling our drinks. We spoke very little spanish but they were nice, friendly and try to make conversations with my husband since he was the one kept asking for wine. We also went to Hoyo19 which was by the golf course and that was ok. The view while having meal was the golf course and the food we had was decent. They had 2 buffets, Miramar (international food) and Bohio (which is more dominican food) we had buffets for breakfast and lunch and many many choices. We didn't eat everything they had but we always found food that we liked, i.e. pancakes, sausages, omelettes, eggs, toasts, many different kinds of bread, crepe's, and many more. So for people that says food is bad, not sure why they would say that as there are many to choose from. Yah their seasonings are different from what we're used to but we always found something we like and the food that we are used to eating.

Resort/Hotel Grounds/Things to do - The pool at this resort was HUGE. No need to fight for chairs. There's always a few available for use. And just a few steps away was the beautiful beach. We went on a catamaran excursion and was able to see other resorts and this is by far the resort that has the best beach. We also chatted with the catamaran crew and in their opinion, this resort has the best beach and also a bit more modern than the others. Not sure how true but they said this is one of the biggest resort and when the government officials have some kind of conference on this side of Dominican Republic, they stay at this hotel or the Melia. The crew is in no way affiliated with the hotel. The beach was beautiful. They have many chairs available and palm trees everywhere. This resort was built along the beach so there are many rooms that have ocean view and therefore their beach is very long an wide.

My kids also enjoyed their non-motor activities on the beach. the kayaks and others that were available for guests with no charge. There's always something going on by the beach and the activities desk. Always playing music and ppl are dancing or doing zumba. They also had bingo one day and my son won a hat and a pack of coffee. They also have pingpong tables and other games at the activity section of the resort.

We also tried the Pirates Island water park and my kids love it. The slides here are for bigger kids. We also tried the water park that has no charge and my kids enjoyed that as well. They also have mini golf, laser tag available for guests. They have a bar at this section of the resort which my kids loved... but of course, the bar here does not serve alcohol.

The resort is so huge so there is a train that can take you where ever you need to go. We got on the train once just to see the hotel grounds and it is beautiful. The workers do a good job keeping the grounds super clean. The lady that cleaned our room daily was Ana and she was really nice. Tipped her daily and she kept room clean and restocked our refrigerator daily. I just left her a note if I wanted something extra and she kept up with it.

There are stores on the ground level of the resort where people can buy things. They are pretty expensive though. My kids like to shop at Quiksilver here in the US and their price is almost double. There's stores as well by the golf course.

Excursions - Hotels had many excursions available. We only took one excursion from the resort which is the Adventure Boogies. We wanted this because it's only a 4 hr excursion. We have a 9 yr old so i didn't want to be out the whole day like other excursions. We enjoyed this excursion and got to see the people and houses outside the resort. This excursion had 3 time slots, 9am, 11am, and 2pm. We chose the 2pm one and was perfect. We were picked up at lobby and took us to where we rode the buggies. There were about 30-45 buggies that went all together and it was fun. Took us to Macao beach and a cave where people jumped in the water in the dark cave.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. We will definitely recommend this resort to family an friends and will not hesitate to stay there again if we go back to PC. I'd like to try another resort though that is good for families just to compare and see other option but if nothing interests me, I'll definitely go back to Barcelo. This is a great resort for families and couples.

Room Tip: We chose Bldg 3, Junior Suite Deluxe and had an ocean view. Just a 2-3 minute walk to the main pools...

The beauty, cleanliness, herculean and expansive-size of this resort, along with the simple refreshments upon arrival were our first positive experiences of this Barceló vacation...They have virtually EVERYTHING for EVERYONE at this all-inclusive resort! In fact, it brings out a whole other meaning in the term all-inclusive! The incredibly professional staff and the cheerful and friendly demeanor of so many of the Dominican people truly running this place help make one feel special even for being as large a resort as it is. You NEVER feel like a number and are treated just as courteously & special as one wants to be treated while spending hard-earned money on a vacation. No joke, everyone from front-desk staff, servers in the 11 unique and delicious restaurants (and the countless bars), to the cleaning/maintenance staff, the beach towel personnel, etc. are all SUPER friendly, positive, always willing to take a picture of you and your guest(s) when asked.

It was only my wife & I on this trip but there is, again, so much for everyone, really! We will definitely be returning! With all of their pools and different activities for people and families of all ages, this is hands-down the resort to enjoy and relax at. Beautiful white-sand private beach, warm turquoise blue waters, non-motor activities (like kayaking, peddle boats, wind surfing) included, group-class dancing and other fun beach activities/competitions, great music playing throughout the place to add to the fun & relaxing ambiance, a casino, a live theater with well produced and varied shows everyday of the week, a GORGEOUS spa with GREAT services, a gym, great concierge staff to help for the tasty multicultural á la carte restaurants' reservations and offer insight into other optional tours/excursions available which run the gamut on what one could expect from a trip to a virgin island, horseback riding, zip-lining, ATV riding, snorkeling, scuba diving, a trip into Santo Domingo, etc. They have tennis courts, a full 18-hole beautiful rich-green golf course among the lush vegetation of the island. They even have banquet halls for weddings, conferences, clothing shops, a cigar shop, etc.

My wife & I honeymooned in Cancun over two-and-a-half years ago and had a great time. Having said that, we both agreed that we definitely loved the Barceló Palace Deluxe in Punta Cana even more! We feel like we found a known-quantity in a "vacation home" away from home and look forward to future trips here even with a family of our own one day, God willing.

Speaking of family, I almost forgot to mention the separate kid pools, water park, teen discoteca, adults-only pool, adults-only discoteca (great music, dance floor, and overall look with a nice, HUGE panoramic screen they play music videos and graphics on too)...Overall, a very enjoyable vacation! All the way to our departure with Mr. Hyrum Taveras who helped us check out and was very positive and excited to hear about our stay as he encouraged us to return after we had told him we definitely would be coming back. Oh, the look and comfort of the rooms and the Jacuzzi on the balcony also top-notch wonderful quality. Great quality in virtually EVERYTHING at this place and slim-pickings for anything even remotely negative...Our TV wasn't working the first day we arrived and someone was in our room promptly (less than 10 mins.) to fix it...Gentleman, a separate cigar & bar lounge as well.

Enough said for now...Back to work to save our chips again for another trip in the not-too distant future!

Room Tip: We would have LOVED a Junior Suite Deluxe with an ocean view, but were able to afford the Junior Sui...

Our family stay was from August 4th 2014 to August 13th 2014. Beautiful grounds...very nice beach (seaweed issue was odd, but not a show stopper by any means)....very large complex with several amenities. ABOVE ALL, THE RESTAURANT SITUATION (REALIZE THIS IS IN CAPS FOR A REASON) WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED....CHALLENGING. EXCEPT FOR HOYO 19....HOYO 19 BY FAR THE BEST STAFF, FOOD, ATMOSPHERE AND EASY ON THE SCHEDULE....OH, DID I MENTION STAFF....BETTER THAN ANYWHERE ON THIS ENTIRE COMPLEX!!!!! Enough with the caps. The only drawback to this place are some of the guests....yes the guests (won't mention any specific nationality that crossed a big ocean)....some are very rude and act entitled. I understand affluence or its pretence, but come on people....we are on vacation. Finally, some of the employees at some other venues on the complex need to realize that everyone is a guest there, not just those other rude pretentious affluent folks. Would return to Barcelo Bavaro, but would certainly make Hoyo 19 my only stop....Barcelo management, take some lessons from Hoyo 19 and make the rest of your complex as enjoyable.

J& L of Royal Oak, MI

Room Tip: Golf course rooms, though a bit of a way from the beach were very peaceful and lovely view.

This was the second time we visited this hotel for a family vacation. Last year it was an amazing experience that's why we've decided to go back. Big mistake. The service is horrible, at the restaurants the staff members have an I don't care attitude, very slow service, same goes for the front desk. The food is beyond bad, poor variety as well as tasteless in the buffet as well as in the restaurants. The rooms are disgustingly dirty, dead bugs on the walls, dirty sheets. However The hotel is huge and beautifully kept grounds, fun for the kids. Will not be returning.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon for 4 nights. We arrived to the hotel around 12:30 pm on Thursday the 14th. The hotel is nice, only 2 or 3 years old from what I heard.
Advice: don't forget to bring anything as far as sun screen, lotion, hairspray, Tylenol, etc... You will pay top $$$$ for anything you need. Make a checklist!!! My wife and I got "bubble guts" one night and had to pay $12 for pepto...ouch. I have nothing against Buffett food but it's not that good! It's ok, but don't expect Las Vegas type Buffett food. We ate at the Seafood, Mexican, and Japanese restaurant's and the only one that we like was the Japanese. The food isn't horrible but I think they can put a little more effort into the taste. I would think that they would offer a restaurant with some local flavors but they don't. You'll have to go off site for that. The room was nice and clean, they do an excellent job of keeping all of their facilities clean. They kept forgetting to give us wash clothes, but they bring it right away if you call guest services. We booked swimming with the sharks, sting rays, and snorkeling which were fun. Buy your own mask if your considering snorkeling. We also booked the buggies which was all about selling you something more at each one if the stops. If it hasn't rained then don't believe the picture in which your splashing through mud, expect allot of dust in your face. It's flat dirt roads not mountains and rivers. Take a bandana with you so you can wrap around your face, some shades too. Always have a bunch if singles and money with you were ever you go because everything that you do you'll be solicited to buy something, especially pictures or videos. You do need to make reservations to restaurants but I can understand that. Everyone would be waiting on the same restaurants in a given night, it would be a mad house. All in all I enjoyed myself and the only small issue I would have is the food. The one thing I would do different is rent a car so you can drive around and get off the resort.

We had an amazing time! On arrival we received drinks and the staff at check-in were quite cheerful. Not sure if we should've asked for early check-in but if you arrive before your check-in time, prepare to do some waiting. We took that time to walk around the resort and take pictures. It's simply gorgeous. We had an ocean view room (totally a must) the room made our wait worth it... Jacuzzi on the balcony, mini bar, the shower and toilet had fogged doors so if you're weird about that stuff prepare lol We didn't mind as a couple. The housekeeping came each day. A few people from our group had rooms at another end of the resort had complaints but in my opinion, if you have a complaint, speak to concierge right away to get it sorted rather than sit and stir. So easily fixed.
The resort has plenty to offer. The pools are huge. Plenty of space and one on each side. The bars are around the pool areas plus a sports bar inside. Yes we got to watch American football. You do have to make reservations for dinner at al restaurants except the sports bar, buffets, and maybe the golf restaurant. I forget. They actually enforce that though. Our favorite restaurants were the Japanese and the steakhouse. The other restaurants were average to us.
The casino is nice as well but never quite as packed as the disco directly across from it. As far as the disco goes, we wanted them to play more of a variety of music.
There is plenty to do on this resort. The shows were pretty good, the two water parks were fun. I think one has a fee the other is free for the children. The gym is a good size If you workout on vacay like me, you'll enjoy that perk. The spa is cool but on the pricey side.
The train takes you all over the resort. We took it sometimes just for fun. The golf area is huuuuge. The beach..... Beautiful and so blue. We did parasailing and speed boating. Lots of fun. The workers are really nice. We also walked down to the market. You can get lots of little souvenirs and try out the local restaurant as well. Yummy.
Go to this resort and have a good time. Prepare to get wasted on mamajuana. Omg.... Gooooooood times!!! Don't hesitate to ask questions. We go to Punta Cana every year. Different hotel each time. This one I would return to. (Oh! Downside... the prostitutes come on to the hotel grounds an approach your husbands/boyfriends folks. Mildly irritating. Give the side eye and move on) otherwise have a great time!
