Description: Taverna 'The Old Perithia' is located at the center of the square and it's the only one that lasted, as it's been running since 1863. The family has always been the same and the taverna passes from the grandfather to the grandchild. At first it was serving the locals and the villagers and later the tourists. For about 150 years, what you experience with us is that a friendly environment and a good service can be combined with the traditional taste we offer and a high quality. We will offer exquisite dishes made with ingredients from our own garden. Here you will find specialities from Perithia and the entire Corfu, cooked by meticulously following our grandparents' recipes. You can enjoy original Greek food in the summer atmosphere, in bright daylight or under the stars of Old Perithia. You will also find a great variety in delicious appetizers, that if you let the waiter choose for you, you will definitely be more than amazed. Don't forget to try grandma's walnut cake, made with walnuts that we pick from walnut trees located in our village. Our taverna is the ideal choice if you want to rest while admiring the view of mountain Pandocrator or the sun clock on the wall of the old town hall. You can drink a coffee or a drink and enjoy your lunch or dinner.

“Unique eating experience in Corfu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

We went to this restaurant as part of an organised trip, so cannot comment too much on the value for money. I can say however that it was lovely to eat under a flourishing vine, with plenty of grapes a-hanging! Food was plentiful and fresh - the starter particularly was very tasty. You have to feel for the few businesses in this small ancient village - they are trying SO hard to make it all work. Give them a chance - visit this place with a smile, eat heartily.....

Nice tsigareli and orange pie. Very nice location and high review scores that raises the expectations. A bit overrated.

“Average food, incredibly slow service!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

We went to this taverna as it was recommended on several guide books. The restaurant has beautiful views over the countryside and has a friendly staff.

However, the food was disappointing. It was just average and very greasy. We were a big group so we tried almost everything that was on the menu and were not impressed. Also, the service was incredibly slow... it took almost an hour for the mains to arrive and only once some of the people on my table were already having their coffees.

“the tradition meet the taste”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2013

A very nice location in the middle of the old village with very good food as the row materials are from the area round and the family use their own products.Very tastefull the meals all from those cooked in casseroles to the charcoal. It is a must to visit the village and just sit opposite from the ruins of the old Town hall and enjoy the view from the little balcony of Old Perithia Tavern. And of course as you walk into the tavern just look round you to see how the place use to be.Bon apetite my friends.

“We got lost and stumbled on Old Perithia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2012

Not just a Taverna, it's a village in the hills / mountains. We were hoping to drive on a road taking us around Mount Pantokrator. We got to the end of the road and it seemed to be a dead end. We were about to turn around but saw the signs for Old Perithia and they said something about it being a protected area. We parked up and had a short stroll. It turned out to be a village on the Hillside. We followed the path down the hill passing all the old houses. It looked like a historical place but people were actually living there. We came to two Tavernas. One was packed which we later found out Rick Stein had touched. We chose the Taverna over the way as it was more peaceful. We only had a desert as we'd eaten earlier. The Lemon pie with Icecream was very tastey and the owners were so friendly. I think perhaps Rick Stein had ruined their business as all the visitors were ignoring their Taverna and heading to the one Rick had been at. They told us they were selling up and moving back to the Greek Mainland. What a shame!! Rick has a lot to answer for what with elevating the property prices in Padstow beyond the ranges of most of the locals. Anyway Old Perithia was magical. I can imagine in 20 years time it will be all bought up, renovated and will have lost some of it's charm.
