The hotel is quite old style and we had to climb up some stairs to reach the entrance. The room and bed were OK and the shower one of the hottest we had. But the breakfast was superb! We had to wait 20 minutes because there was a misunderstanding about the time (although the lady manager/owner understood English very well..!) but when we got back into the diningroom we got a pile of pancakes with honey. Very tasteful, but after that came bread, orange juice, coffee and eggs as well. Sorry to say we could not eat it all.
Chaiten is partly a ghost town because an eruption in 2008 destroyed a great part of the town. There is still a few houses covered in ashes who are meant to become an museum. Momentarily the town is beiing rebuild. From Chaiten on it is possible to continue your journey north by taking two or three ferries. For further information you could contact Marco Garrido at Chaitén Nativo - (http://www.medioambienteradio.cl/chaiten-nativo).
