The owners, Oudy and Evi, are very friendly. They have a friendly pitbull dog. Evi has a culinary certification. She oversees the preparation of the food. I read reviews about the food here and I thought the people were just being polite when they sang praises of the food. But now that I'd tasted it myself, I'll have to say that the flavour of the food is beyond words! For Rp70,000, dinner was a spread of 5 dishes plus rice and noodle soup. Breakfast, included in the room rate of Rp300,000, was bananas at 4am before the hike and then pancakes with palm sugar and coffee/tea at 8am after the hike. There are flies here because it's just normal for flies to exist here in the forest.
The window of the cottage opens up to a view of a stream and the forest. It was relaxing to sit at the veranda and listen to the flowing water. The bed was soft and comfortable. There were some dead insects on top of the mosquito net. The bathroom has a real rain bath: the shower area is not sheltered so you can take a bath in the rain. The pebbled shower area made me feel like I was showering while standing in a stream. There was no heated water. The size of the towel is half the normal towel size.
Electricity is turned on at night at sunset till 10pm, then turned on again at 3.45am. No TV, no internet, no socket to plug in your chargers. However, there was a problem with the generator the evening that I was here so it was dark from 5pm to 7pm. There was no cellphone signal. Do shower before 5pm. Keep a torch or handphone on your bed at night because it is pitch dark at night. I could hear were some nocturnal birds flying around and chirping at night. Some people might find it scary to stay here alone.
Free transportation to and from Tangkoko Nature Reserve is provided. It's a 10-min drive away. You can arrange your hike with the guides here. Jun was my guide. He has very sharp eyes so I was fortunate to see Tarsiers, Hornbill, Kingfisher, Macaca Nigra, Bats and Maleo during the 3-hour morning hike. He is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions I had about these animals. Entrance Ticket Rp15,000 Camera Fee Rp30,000 Tour Guide Fee Rp85,000. You have to pre-arrange the hike with a guide because there's nobody waiting at the park headquarters at 5am. The evening hike is only to see the Tarsiers, whereas you can see the Tarsiers and other animals in the morning. I highly recommend a one-night stay at Tangkoko Dove Villas if you wish to see the animals.
Oudy arranged the transfer from Tangkoko Dove Villas to the airport for Rp300,000.
