“Haggerston stay sun holidays”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

Recently stayed at Haggerston for the first time using the sun holiday 9.50 vouchers.
Had never been to the site before so was unsure what to expect.
The caravan we had was quite far away from the facilities so this involved a lot of walking with young children.
The caravan was quite dated but surprisingly clean inside, there was three bedrooms all of which were very small.
There was a fire in the front room which heated the small room up quick.
But at night the bedrooms were freezing !
Take extra blankets and sheets !
The rooms had thin quilts on them and we thought it would be warm with it being early September.
We struggled to stay warm and have all came home with the flu!
There was very few places to eat on the site. One main pub and a few takeaways which were very dirty. Rubbish all over the floor!
We found the entertainment to be lacking and there was not enough seats for the amount of people in the site.

Visited for weekend stayed in private caravan which was lovely only good thing about it .The site is total
Dump rubbish bins over flowing glasses on every table your feet stuck to the floor in the entertainment place full of horrible kids running riot and there parents drinking and swearing .Im not a snob but it looked like a bad council estate had give people a free holiday one bloke arguing with his wife coz his giro hadn't gone in the bank and they were skint .The police were never of the site arresting people best part of the holiday was packing up and going home no way is this 5 star Thorpe park is far superior

We booked a four night break via the sun 9.50 deals. For myself, husband and 1 year old child that cost 60pounds (including entertainment passes and linen). We then upgraded which took total cost to approx 90pounds.
I contacted haven direct to upgrade, they put special request on my booking that we have a quiet area.
I forgot our confirmation letter, phoned haggerston en route, they not only took details over the phone and confirmed was ok to book in wthout paper copy of confirmation - they allocated us a higher grade caravan with central heating because we had a small child.
Arrived and checked in at 2.55 (official checkin from 3pm). Very friendly staff.
Caravan in Milkfield area of park, very clean interior, the outside not cleaned so windows covered in cobwebs and not great. However, caravan v nice and spacious. Fab area, away from main drag. Gas in caravan ran out 9pm on 3rd night. Phoned out of hours help and gas cylinder replaced in 10 mins, great service.
Swimming pools immaculate, changing rooms lovely, much better than my local swimming pool.
Toddler disco great fun, as we were there outwith school hols, no need to take child into lounge early while bingo on - plenty of seats.
Drinks not expensive.
Mash and barrel pub nice, clean, well maintained, nice outdoor area.
Arcade noisy, loads of machines, quite good fun and kids love it!
Crazy golf Brill, 9 hole golf course looks nice but didn't play it.
Most prices include refundable deposit, 10 or 20pounds. Some problems apparently wth thefts - as usual minority spoil it for all.
onsite spar not expensive, but there is big Tesco at Berwick.
Remember to take take towels, cleaning products, toilet rolls.
Our son was a bit young to get involved in the entertainment and most of the attractions, for older children there is a lot to do and im sure they wouldn't be bored.
Clientele was slightly low rent in general, but hey why be snobbish - they are at least spending money to take their families on a break. We didn't have any issues with other guests, found everyone really pleasant.
Id recommend you pay a bit extra for a high grade caravan, and you can't fail to have a good time here. Great staff, location and facilities.

Just back from 4 day break at Haggerston & found it very relaxing. Its classed as a 5 star resort, but i would give it 3 plus. The staff were very helpful and friendly, even though we were half an hour early to check in. The price for the kids play area, ie ropes, climbing frame, boats and cycles were overpriced. It was a nice break, but the food at the mash and barrell was VERY POOR for the price. Plenty of places to eat out in berwick upon tweed if you have transport.

I booked this park as my daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan and Alnwick Castle (Hogwarts) is only about 20 minutes away.

We often stay on Haven Sites thoughout the summer as the kids like them and the dogs can come too. This park was billed as a 5 star park so I had high expectations but was slightly disappointed.

The play area for the children was accessed through the main entertainment area and was situated at the back of the bar. It seemed a small play area, particularly for the amount of children playing in it and there were lots of people sat outside drinking. I am usually OK with the girls going to the playground together (after an initial visit with me) as they're 8 & 12 and can be trusted but I didn't want them going through the bar area alone. I think what probably made it worse was there was a junior rugby tour staying at the same time and this may have been the thing to put me off as it was very noisy, rowdy and seemed over crowded (although it was a weekend in term time).

We didn't really have time to go to the pool but we had a look and it seemed ok - nothing special (otherwise the kids would have nattered to go in) and again it was very busy.

Our caravan was clean and adequate - as expected and on par with other Haven Sites. There was a pleasant walk through fields where we took the dogs. The downside was we seemed to be right in the middle of the Rugby Tour (they were on every side and front and back) so you can imagine the noise. In fairness they were only having a good time, the boys were letting off steam and being boys, the adults would have a few too many drinks on an evening and what started as a private conversation ended up as a loud debate and jokes between all the caravans. I didn't complain nor did I ask to move (although at 3-oclock in the morning I was somewhat less tolerant with my thoughts!) so I really shouldn't moan about it.

The massive plus point to this site is the surrounding areas and attractions. I've mentioned the Harry Potter Castle at Alnwick. We bought tickets for the castle and gardens but didn't really get the time (or have the energy) for the gardens afterwards. The castle was great and they do a tour which is really informative (and even the girls enjoyed). Their highlight was the broomstick flying lessons)

We also went over to the Farne Islands - the boat was jam packed, apparently you could take your dog too, luckily we didn't because I don't know where she would have sat it was that busy but once you got off on the island it was lovely. The great thing about the Farne Islands is that there's something spectacular every season i.e. nesting, hatching, etc.

The surrounding country side is beautiful and I wouldn't be put off staying here again - although it's not the 5 star park I expected.

I'm sure without the Rugby Tour engulfing your caravan and with slightly lower expectations, you'll have a lovely time just make sure you get out and about!

Enjoy!

We have used Haven before so knew more or less what to expect when we booked via a Daily Mail offer. We paid a little extra to upgrade our accommodation and were pleasantly surprised by the size and situation of the caravan. Since there were only two of us our 3 bed caravan was larger than we really needed but it was nice to have the exta room. Our caravan overlooked ne of the lakes and it was a bonus to be able to go out onto the balcony and watch and feed the ducks and swans. We were not really interested in all the slot machines etc which you tend to get on these sites but did use the attached par 3 golf course and also the usual eatery on the site. The food is very unimaginative but given that you can self cater in the caravans that and there are plenty of places to eat off site. We spent time visiting Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle and would have gone to Alnwick if we had another day there. We loved the area and will surely go back.

I will start by saying that in booking a place like a Haven site you really should know what to expect so if you have realistic expectations you should have a great time. We are neither representative of characters in Rab C Nesbitt or Shameless, we are just a working family who wanted a reasonably priced family break close to home and some people there maybe were a bit like Frank Gallagher but again if you know to expect this then there should be no problem. Just have a laugh and chill out!! We were really worried about travelling here after reading the negative reviews however having just returned we really have very few bad things to say. The staff were welcoming, and having asked for a caravan in a quiet part we were not disappointed. The caravan was clean and modern (there were a few cigarette ends outside) but that was the only negative point. There were loads of activities for kids and lots to keep them occupied. Yes, some of these were expensive however we thought there were enough free and reasonably priced things (swimming, playpark, kids clubs, adventure golf) to keep them occupied for a while in between our journeys out to the beach and sightseeing. The entertainment was pretty much as you would expect and it was quiet enough to get a seat. We never ate at the Mash and Barrel but it was a nice quiet place for a drink away from the noise of the main bar. Food, drinks and the shop are expensive but again this is to be expected and Berwick has plenty of supermarkets if you have a car. Overall, all 4 of us had a great 4 days (3 year old and pensioner included) and would certainly not put anyone off going.
