Mather Lodge is on top of a small mtn in a beautiful part of Arkansas. It's a big post and beam lodge with rustic decor perched on the edge of a rocky cliff. Unlike national park lodges, it's very reasonable, super clean and comfortable. The beds are comfortable and the a/c works well. There are also cabins to rent, some with awesome views of the canyon, others in the woods. Everyone working there is friendly, polite and eager to help.

We were overwhelmed with the lodging, the grounds, the beauty of the park! We visited this year the weekend before Tgiving. We rented 3 cabins for our family and they were perfect! They had woodburning fireplaces and full kitchens. Great for old and young. We hiked the trail to the waterfall which starts at the lodge...awesome....the trees in great color. drove thru the park to overlooks and the views are panoramic..saw indian cave, turtle shell looking rocks...we will be back.. good place for reunions, or large gathering too. .the lodge lovely.. gorgeous stone fireplaces, beamed ceiling and a yellowstone feel to it....! we were just blown away...the cafe had windows overlooked the valley....staff very helpful! Have told all our friends about this great park. planning to return with family in future

Room Tip: some cabins are duplexes with a door in between cabins....great for families traveling together....w...

While in Petit Jean State Park, AR for seeing the beautiful fall foliage, this is a relatively good hotel in the area. Excellent location and parking facility. The start point of Cedar Falls Trail is at its backyard, very convenient. However, the room is simple and very small without much space to turn around. Be aware that if noise is a concern during sleep, this is not a good place, since the sound from people walking upstairs could be heard at night. The restaurant wasn't fancy, but serves its purpose, the food was average.

No matter what time of year, Petit Jean State Park is a wonderful and beautiful visit. Mather Lodge is restored and the facilities are excellent. The restaurant has a magnificent view for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff is friendly, helpful and fun. Very relaxing for a few days and nights. Fun to get to meet folks from all over the country and even beyond.

My husband & I are Texans but have been gone from there for the past 18 years and just moved back a year ago. Although we had travelled in Arkansas a lot and even spent our honeymoon in Eureka Springs, neither of us had heard of Petit Jean State Park. We love fall foliage and were needing to get away from work stress in early October and I just happened upon Petit Jean by doing a broad search on Tripadvisor. What a gem! So beautiful and peaceful! We booked only two weeks before our arrival so we only had the choices of a lodge room and a cabin duplex. We stayed in a cabin duplex. It was a small one room with two double beds and a separate bathroom. Also had a fireplace and a tv with very limited channel selection, microwave and small fridge. It was fine for us and it was clean. I recommend for those staying in these to bring a couple of folding chairs as the only place to sit is on the beds. Also bring bottled water. The water tastes terrible! We loved our stay at both Mather Lodge and beautiful Petit Jean so much that we re-booked a full size cabin for next year.

Our first visit ever to Petit Jean State Park and Mather Lodge, my husband and I spent two nights here in late October. The fall foliage was almost at its peak during our visit and the views were absolutely stunning.

We stayed in a one bedroom duplex cabin which was immaculate, very spacious and rustically charming, while having all the amenities one could ask for, including completely outfitted kitchen, stone fireplace, large bathroom and two comfy queen-sized beds. There was a screened-in back porch, with hanging porch swing, and a deck (complete with picnic table and grill) overlooking the beautiful canyon behind our cabin.

One can't help but be awed when walking into Mather Lodge, with its impressive stone fireplaces, hand-hewn beams, stone walls and beautiful wood floors. The lodge is built on a bluff and all the windows have a million-dollar view! We ate in the lodge restaurant for breakfast one morning and dinner both nights. The food was excellent and prices were reasonable. All the staff we encountered at the lodge were friendly and helpful.

There are several hiking trails and overlooks at Petit Jean, including the Cedar Falls Trail - a 2-mile round-trip hike that winds itself down the mountainside, through the woods and along a creek to the beautiful 3-4-story-high falls. While the the trail to Cedar Falls is considered "Moderate", be sure to wear good hiking shoes, carry some bottled water and take a walking stick with you if you are not a very experienced hiker. We purchased a walking stick in the lodge gift shop and it turned out quite useful. The trek down the mountainside was well worth the effort; every part of the trail was lovely. The falls were light, but still impressive. We were told by other visitors that it is even more awesome in the spring, when it is flowing more heavily from rains and snow melt.

We can't wait to go back and spend a whole week!

Room Tip: There are many lodging options to choose from, from one, two and three bedrooms to duplex and studio...

I wrote a good review for Mather Lodge last year, but I was just up there a couple of weeks ago at the end of October and the place has gotten even better. Last time I visited it was pretty busy, but I guess its their downtime now so it was it was quieter and less crowded. We had lunch and got some help from the staff to find the best places to catch the fall foliage. Everyone - from the waitress to the desk clerk to the manager - was very helpful, very friendly, and very professional. The food was pretty good and the view from the restaurant was outstanding, especially with the fall colors. Overall a great experience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of Arkansas's historic treasures, Mather Lodge at Petit Jean State Park, reopened on May 8 following a beautiful, and fitting, $4.3 million renovation. The renovation work replaced the lodge's 1960s-era dining room with a more rustic-style design, expanded the kitchen, added a 50-person room for meetings and small banquets, relocated the guest registration desk, enhanced the 24 guest rooms, and constructed a new lodge swimming pool. Public restrooms were added underneath the pool due to its proximity to Cedar Falls Trail, one of the park's most popular hiking trails. The renovation did not affect any of the lodge's original Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration work from the 1930s. Now the renovated portion mirrors the Adirondack-style park architecture of the 1930s' portions of this Arkansas treasure. ... more   less
