“Gorgeous view, great food and nice rooms!”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We stayed at Mather Lodge two nights and found it an excellent place. We had eaten there before but never stayed. The rooms were comfortable (we ended up in a different room the second night), the staff was polite and thoughtful and the food was delicious. Plus an awful lot of it, huge servings. I could practically hear my Grandma long ago admonishing me to clean up my plate, but no way could I!

We also spent a lot of time admiring the ceiling beams and the beautiful tall windows with the breathtaking views.

I highly recommend this place and while I'm at it, the Car Museum not far away is a wonderful place to visit, too!

Room Tip: I honestly think any room given to you will suit. If not, I'm sure the staff would fix whatever...

Thirty-five years ago, we spent our honeymoon here. Then we stayed in a cabin but stayed in a lodge room this time. It is apparent that the rooms have had a make-over in recent years which include wood floors and wood paneled walls and ceiling. There was no issue with thin walls. The bathroom is quite small but clean.
The park is lovely with great vistas, hiking trails, and ranger led activities. Arkansas does state parks well!

If you're looking for quiet relaxing rustic locations this is a great place. The lodges Is set on top of a mountain and has a great patio area for viewing the sunset.
The rooms in the lodge were small but clean and very comfortable. There is a nice space for gathering to play games or just hang out if you come in a group.

We flew into the little airport close by the state park and contacted the lodge for a courtesy pick-up. A staff member was there in about 15 minutes and was professional and friendly. On our way to the lodge he told us about the area and history of the lodge. The lodge was very clean and the views of the valley were amazing. We hiked for two days and were in awe of the beauty. The trails are marked very well, which was very comforting.

Room Tip: Rooms are top floor are quieter.

The lodge is situated in a beautiful spot overlooking a valley. You don't have the view from all the cabins bit the dining room makes up for that. We had a simple cabin without kitchen and it was good. It was rather small, but it had all amenities we needed.

Mather Lodge is on top of a small mtn in a beautiful part of Arkansas. It's a big post and beam lodge with rustic decor perched on the edge of a rocky cliff. Unlike national park lodges, it's very reasonable, super clean and comfortable. The beds are comfortable and the a/c works well. There are also cabins to rent, some with awesome views of the canyon, others in the woods. Everyone working there is friendly, polite and eager to help.

We were overwhelmed with the lodging, the grounds, the beauty of the park! We visited this year the weekend before Tgiving. We rented 3 cabins for our family and they were perfect! They had woodburning fireplaces and full kitchens. Great for old and young. We hiked the trail to the waterfall which starts at the lodge...awesome....the trees in great color. drove thru the park to overlooks and the views are panoramic..saw indian cave, turtle shell looking rocks...we will be back.. good place for reunions, or large gathering too. .the lodge lovely.. gorgeous stone fireplaces, beamed ceiling and a yellowstone feel to it....! we were just blown away...the cafe had windows overlooked the valley....staff very helpful! Have told all our friends about this great park. planning to return with family in future

Room Tip: some cabins are duplexes with a door in between cabins....great for families traveling together....w...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of Arkansas's historic treasures, Mather Lodge at Petit Jean State Park, reopened on May 8 following a beautiful, and fitting, $4.3 million renovation. The renovation work replaced the lodge's 1960s-era dining room with a more rustic-style design, expanded the kitchen, added a 50-person room for meetings and small banquets, relocated the guest registration desk, enhanced the 24 guest rooms, and constructed a new lodge swimming pool. Public restrooms were added underneath the pool due to its proximity to Cedar Falls Trail, one of the park's most popular hiking trails. The renovation did not affect any of the lodge's original Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration work from the 1930s. Now the renovated portion mirrors the Adirondack-style park architecture of the 1930s' portions of this Arkansas treasure. ... more   less
