My husband and I had a delightful little cottage just steps away from the warm gentle bay water. Bay water in January was a bit chilly in the morning, but wonderful in the afternoon with warm temps in reaching the mid to high 70s to low 80s.

We pretty much much had the beach to ourselves which was actually lovely to us.

We so enjoyed meeting all the staff with Oualie and the locals who regularly showed up for happy hour on Monday and Friday evenings.

We loved all the assistance we got from Stacy Paris right from the beginning of even deciding to book our stay. Stacy was never pushy only kind and very, very helpful and we consider her now a dear friend and look forward to going back to visit her and the entire staff at Oualie Beach!

Room Tip: We did buy our own pillows as we're just picky. I'm sure if we had asked for other pillows...

Oualie Beach resort is the perfect locatoin with accommodatoin just yards from the sea and a very safe bay for swimming and snorkelling.
The island itself is cricket-mad and takes just half an hour to drive rouind. Ther is plenty to do and see with several museums and restored sugar plantatoins which now house lovely restaurants and botanical gardens, The pace of life is slow but totally stress-free. Not cheap thanks largely to the Americans but good value restarants can be found.

Room Tip: Those nearest the sea-front have the best views.

We are here at the Oualie Beach Resort and really wish we were somewhere else! Nevis is a beautiful island and the residents are all very kind and helpful. This hotel has a great location but the owners have "lost the plot"! when we arrived in our room which was nothing like the photos posted, there were so many things like phone, safe etc not in working order. The furnishings in our room would be sub standard for the average third class trucking motel. The food in the restaurant is expensive and very poor quality.

The highlight of our stay has been a show put on by a local primary school to showcase their island heritage. The children were so special. Their parents worked hard to produce their beautiful costumes. It's sad that the owners of the hotel can't display that same effort and pride.

Thanks for confirming that Nevis is beautiful, the people are nice, that Oualie Beach Resort has a perfect location and that you really enjoyed the dance heritage show that we put on to entertain our guests. As a Green Resort we feel that it is important to involve the local community in tourism and keep alive the music and cultural traditions of our people. Sadly you were disappointed with the room. The General Manager, Maintenance & Housekeeping Supervisors and I have personally checked your room and you are correct. The phone was crackling and has been replaced. There were two safes, a new one that worked and and old one that did not. The old one has been removed. Maintenance have tightened the bolts on the bed as it was definitely squeaky. The hot water is by solar but if ever there is not enough on a cloudy day all it takes is a flick of a switch to engage the electric backup. On your next visit PLEASE just pop in to reception to report any problem immediately so that it can be addressed speedily. I agree that food on Nevis is expensive but we keep the menu prices at Oualie well below most of the other hotels and restaurants on purpose. Next time do try the fresh local seafood that we are now getting great reviews about. Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Wahoo, Swordfish and Lobster all kept fresh on ice and never frozen like at other restaurants.

We stayed in one of the attractive gingerbread trimmed cottages right on the beach, with a breezy screened in veranda. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast servers were lovely and got the day off to a perfect start. We were there for 10 days in Feb and enjoyed snorkeling in the cove and watching pelicans and terns dive for fish. Plenty of lounge chairs and hammocks for a relaxing read afterwards. Some dinner nights had themes, and we enjoyed the steel drum accompaniment best.

Room Tip: Plenty of rooms right on the beach.

Oualie Beach Resort is a cute place that's perfect for laid back (non-fussy) people. In fact, according to my DH he actually preferred Oualie over Nisbet Plantation! Before arriving at Oualie we spent 3 days at Nisbet Plantation Inn which IMHO is no comparison. Go to Oualie if you're not fussy, and want to enjoy your own little bungalow that's steps from the beach. We stayed in Lobsterwalk and we were mere steps from our private area of the beach. We went during low season and many days we would spend the entire day and see only a couple drop-in visitors. The water was as calm as we like, though not as clear as we'd prefer. We still managed to have a relaxing time, however.

Transportation from St Kitts via water taxi was very simple. On arrival since we stayed at Nisbet first, they arranged our transportation. Since we left to go home from Oualie, we booked the water taxi through Oualie. Be aware, depending on time of day, you could have a bumpy ride. Time-wise though, water taxi is fast! Arriving and departing we had the water taxi to ourselves.

Room
I'd requested a room with close proximity to the restaurant and the beach and that's what we got. We did have two single beds though and a fridge. Although a microwave would have been handy since most days we picked up takeout from King's Palace Chinese Restaurant. Our room could clearly use some TLC but was fine otherwise. There was a TV installed on a small shelf in the corner, a table and two chairs. There was no safe, although one would have been handy.

One major problem though -- the first night we realized we had a major drainage problem in the shower. We called around 6pm and someone came to check it out within 5 minutes. He said he'd be back the next day. The next day we realized the problem had not been fixed because after a day at the beach, I was up to my ankles in non-draining shower water. Finally on the second day someone came and finally fixed the problem. It took a couple hours but the problem was solved.

The Beach
We're beach people and for the simple reason that the water at Oualie was so calm and the beach was located so close to our bungalow, I would say Oualie edges out Nisbet in that regard. Interestingly enough what we paid for 3 days at Nisbet we paid the same amount to stay for 6 days at Oualie. Breakfast, tea and dinner was included in our Nisbet rate, however.

Internet
WiFi access at Oualie was perfectly fine. We no longer travel with a laptop but our Nook, Kindle and Ipad worked fine with consistent access including at the beach.

Car Rental
We rented a 4-door vehicle from Nevis Car Rental. I usually prefer companies that are easy to communicate online without unnecessary phone calls, and from the initial inquiry until we arrived, Nevis Car Rental was easy to communicate with. We ended up getting a 4 door SUV-type vehicle and it was easy to navigate, even though we are die-hard 4-door sedan people! We’d previously driven on the left hand side and had to problems navigating on Nevis’ roads. Nevis Car Rentals dropped off the vehicle at the Nisbet and when we were done we just left the car parked and gave the keys to the front desk person at Oualie Beach. We rented for our entire stay.

Meals
During out 6 days at Oualie we ate breakfast each day at the restaurant (banana pancakes, french toast, bacon and sausage) and found the food to be reasonably priced considering we're on an island where most things are imported. Service was very good each day. Since we were out and about each day we rarely had lunch at the restaurant. A good source for lunches was King's Palace.

We will be back to Oualie in the future.

Just returned from a wonderful stay here-a set of cottages right on the beach in a very protected bay with a great view of St. Kitts. There are resident monkeys, a neighboring herd of errant cows, some lovable restaurant cats and bananaquits that eat right out of your hand at the bar. Plus lots of hammocks set just perfectly under trees in the shade, kayaks for hire and a snorkel boat that leaves every day at 1:30 that goes to a great little spot over at St. Kitts. The rooms are very clean-with A/C, TV, internet, and a little refrigerator and individual screened in porches. The staff is very, very sweet. This little resort is for laid back travelers, and certainly not for those who need concierge type service or who don't expect to leave their resort and explore the wonderful island. We will be back.

Be prepared that Nevis in general is extremely clean, wildly beautiful, but very very expensive and very quiet. You can rent a car if you feel comfortable driving on the left hand side of the road, or take taxis or rent a bike from Oualie for day trips. There is a bus that travels around the island but it is on no schedule and you can wait a long time. There is very minimal shopping here, so if town, shopping or major nightlife is your thing, don't come to Nevis. Bring whatever you think you might need, there are some supermarkets but everything is quite dear and you can't depend on buying what you think should be available on the island. Food is expensive everywhere-just embrace the horror. Make sure you hit Sunshines for Killer Bees and the amazing conch fritters, Golden Rock for lunch and a walk around their amazing gardens or an afternoon hike up the mountain, and Bananas for sunset on the roof and an absolutely wonderful, if expensive dinner.

Room Tip: Get a first floor room and not next to restaurant or the conference room.
