Ozark Cabins at Dry Creek
Reviewed 20 October 2013

The rooms at Cabins at Dry Creek are spacious, clean and very reasonable. The beds are oh so comfy and the spacious bathroom is a nice change from regular inn bathrooms. Just step outside your rear sliding glass door and you have a wooded, serene view-great spot to drink coffee in the morning or have a glass of wine in the evening. The check in staff friendly and accommodating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cabins are more like a duplex where you share one wall with another room. We had 2 queen beds, flat screened TV, coffee pot, small refrigerator, free Wi-Fi, toiletries, access to a nice sized pool, and a nice deck with 2 chairs. The location was great as it was about a 10 minute drive to Mountain View. We got take out from the restaurant and enjoyed eating by the pool. We happened to be there on a night when the Folk Center Craft Village was opened with no admission. The children in our group (ages 12, 10, 9) all really liked walking around in the village, playing dress up in the old cabin, playing school in the schoolhouse, dipping candles and making cornhusk dolls. The gift shop had lots of great gifts. Our group also had a great time at the Loco Ropes course which is located right there. The ropes course is operated separately and has it's own fees. Overall, we thought these cabins were a great value for the amenities and location in the Mountain View area.

What a pleasant change from a hotel or motel. Very friendly staff at the registration desk. The cabin was very clean with two queen beds, flat screen TV, fridge & coffee maker. The deck was such a treat in the quiet country evenings.

Room Tip: Request a room with the deck facing the woods and not the street.

June 12, 2012: We were confused by the website description of "cabins" vs. what the picture indicated, and surprised that we were actually staying in a duplex. Regardless, we had a nice big room, two queen beds, and lots of space. Room was quaint and very clean, with a lovely private deck off the back, looking into the woods. Nice bathroom, spacious, but the mirror placement on the wall behind the mirrored vanity gave me a start when I got a 'full monty' view of my own posterior...not something I want to see first thing (or last) in the day!! Disappointed that we did not have a chance to see the craft village, but we did get to see the town and enjoy a couple of the dining establishments. At breakfast at the Center; service was a bit slow, and food was very good, but not great. All in all, a nice place to stay.

I stayed a night at the Ozark Folk Center cabins, just a few minutes drive from Mountain View's town square. Nice room with a balcony that opened up to a wooded hill - very private!! Restaurant, concerts, and craft village just a few minutes walk away.

My wife and I spent five nights at Dry Creek Lodge while attending an Elderhostel sponsored by the Ozark Folk Center. The Elderhostel was outstanding, and our accommodations at Dry Creek Lodge helped to make it so.
The lodge is a group of cabins joined in pod-like fashion nestled in the woods several blocks (and a very steep hill) from The Skillet Restaurant and the Ozark Folk Center craft village and theater. Each cabin has two queen beds, tv, compact refrigerator, wireless internet (which worked flawlessly) and a small patio with wooden sofa. Our room was clean and the beds comfortable. The ac/heater kept the room at the desired temperature which was important with chilly mornings and sunny, warm afternoons.
All the staff at the Ozark Folk Center were welcoming and accommodating. The food at The Skillet Restaurant was the best I have eaten, except for my wife's (she may read this). The craft village had something of interest for all ages. Don't miss the story-telling at noon on the Dr. Bessie Moore Deck. Evening performances at the Ozark Folk Center's 1000 seat indoor theater are varied and well-worth the two hours.
A short drive from Dry Creek Lodge is the rustic Jimmy Driftwood Barn where local musicians play at 7PM on Friday and Sunday evenings. The audience sits on benches, old church pews, wooden chairs and old movie theater seats (some with cushions made by the local ladies). As musicians play the devil's box (fiddle), guitars, mandolins, dulcimers and other instruments of the Ozarks, locals (who make up most of the audience) will get up to jig on the stage. The hat is passed taking donations, but contributions are not mandatory. A memorable evening.
A bit further from the Dry Creek Lodge, but well worth the drive, is Blanchard Cave a truly outstanding, overwhelming sight hundreds of feet below ground. Don't miss Blanchard Cave and it's adjoining spring even if it means a detour out of your way.
A path through the woods connects Dry Creek Lodge to the town of Mountain View, perhaps a mile away. Musicians gather on the court house square evenings, and when they feel like it, to play folk songs and entertain the audience, which brings blankets and lawn chairs.
Dry Creek Lodge offers an unheated swimming pool. Locals prefer the many streams and creeks in the area.
We came to appreciate the people, music, food, and scenery of Stone County, Arkansas and hope to stay at Dry Creek Lodge again soon.
