Mouse/rat present in the house. Faeces were found in the twin bedroom, hallway, kitchen and kitchen cupboards. The mouse/rat was roaming the kitchen at night on the worktops and consumed our bread that had been left in it’s bag on the counter top. A trap was set in the pantry with no warning given to me, which was within easy reach of our young children. We were not notified of this issue prior to our stay. Host advised in an email to put some poison out, however I was not prepared to do this with my children being in the house and I certainly would not expect to have to attempt to catch or poison vermin in a rental property, this should have been the job of a pest control company!
Spiders and many old spider webs were very noticeable throughout the entire house, on door frames, window frames, skirting boards and the air conditioning unit. Adding to the general feeling of lack of cleanliness of the property.
KITCHEN– The dishwasher was full of water when we opened this to be inspected for use. When the door was closed again water starting leaking onto the kitchen floor. This continued leaking for the duration of our stay. Host offered to replace the dishwasher, however we did not want tradesmen in the property during our relatively short duration stay.
LAUNDRY- There was a leaking pipe behind the washing machine, with water all over the floor and plugs for appliances sitting in the water. This could have been dangerous if we were to have used the appliances without noticing the leak.
WOOD BURNING STOVE
The firewood that was supplied was nowhere near adequate for the duration of our stay. We had to fund our own firewood, kindling, newspaper and a lighter.
One of the deciding factors on booking our accomodation with this property, was being able to have a real fire.
KITCHEN – The cleanliness of the kitchen left a lot to be desired. The cabinet doors and dishwasher door were dirty. The cutlery drawer insert was filthy, as well as containing dirty and broken utensils. With all of this, in addition to the rodent issue, we felt we had to clean everything before it was used to ensure it was sanitary.
WATER – When I asked for clarification on the drinking water at the house, Host told me that it was now on well water. This should have been highlighted to us beforehand. On conversations with the neighbours we were advised not to drink the well water. Again, we had to fund our own drinking water.
As a large 3 bedroom home set in a leafy beautiful garden of trees overlooking Mt Buffalo, Buffalo Bed and Bike was perfect for us. We enjoyed the privacy of our own facilities with all modern conveniences provided and undercover parking for 2-3 vehicles. With the Bike Trail passing by the house, it was an ideal location for us to pedal to Bright via the mainly flat trail through scenic farmland with views to the mountains. ( We used Monica's bikes- thanks Monica). The BBQ area is so useful but if we wanted to dine out, we could chose between Bright or Myretleford in either direction with great cafes and restaurants. Monica was so helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending her property. Ideal for couples, groups, families. Oh! and don't forget the fresh produce available from neighboring farms and wineries - loved the blueberries!
We really enjoyed the house and location. We invited friends to join us for a BBQ and sitting on the verandah looking at Mt buffalo was very relaxing. We like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed. The place was nicely furnished and the beds comfy. The bikes were great fun. Thanks Monica!
