We travelled to Ecuador on a Gate One tour in early April. My mind keeps returning to this hotel because it was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the grounds were so attractive. The hotel knows how to take good care of international visitors and I appreciated that.

I've visited La Casa del Suizo twice and had similiar experiences both times. Note that the newer rooms (300's) are much much nicer than the older rooms. They require a much further walk, about 200 km, but are worth it for the size and newness. Food at the resort is good but not great, you wont write home about it but it's a little above average. The staff is fantastic and an improvement over last year is the Wifi works much better. The zip-line excursion is fantastic and the rescue zoo is pretty good too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the 300's. They are much larger, newer, and pretty nice. The only drawback is...

My family and I stayed here for two nights in late April. Our children are 7 & 9 years old. It was about a five hour drive from Quito to get there. We arrived at the hotel's island via a small motorized boat and then we were transferred to the hotel by car. The hotel is a little like an all inclusive (minus paid alcohol and beverages). They have a restaurant area which serves three meals. I wished they had more variety in the foods they offered but the rest of my family was satisfied. They also offered one activity which we paid a low fee for: their Adventure Canopy Tour. Our kid's loved it but my husband and I hated it because nobody warned us that it began with a super steep uphill climb and we associated the word canopy tour with zip lining. NOT the same. This tour would've been more aptly described as a ropes obstacle course with a few short zip lines included. We enjoyed our rainforest tour and getting to see cacao (chocolate) and rubber trees. Our tour of the local wildlife reserve was nice too. We also appreciated that the hotel loaned everyone tall rubber boots for our hike in the rainforest. We needed them as the mud was often at least a foot deep. Before leaving on your hike, I suggest that you bring some bottled water because our guide only brought some room temperature lemonade. :P Our room was had a gorgeous view of the Napo River and a hammock on the porch. The room itself was gorgeous. Although I imagine that they don't do it for environmental reasons, I would've been more motivated to provide a 5 star review if the place had air conditioning. It's hard to sleep while you're sweating from the humidity. It did not have a fitness center that I was aware of.

Room Tip: Ask in advance for a room as close to the river as possible. Tip your rainforest guide well. I was...

Like a couple of the other reviews, this stop was part of our Gate 1 tour. I enjoyed the motorized canoe to get to the hotel. The steps after the canoe ride were another part of the fun of getting there:-) I enjoyed staying in the screened in rooms. All the rooms have hammocks on the deck. Very relaxing. The grounds were beautiful with an outside bar and eating area. It was very nice to return to the nice peaceful setting after the visit with the Ecuadorian family and the great rainforest hike. The meals were served buffet style with lots of choices, including several desserts. This hotel was another wonderful stop on our Ecuador adventure.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Gate 1 tour. It is a beautiful hotel on the Napo River in the Amazon basin. Getting to and from the hotel entails riding in a large motorized canoe - it was fun. For the trips to the rainforest, rubber boots are available - it's all part of the fun! The grounds are very nice - we spent one afternoon just hanging out by the pool with others in our group. Those who visited the adventure park and/or the animal rescue facility were very impressed. The management was not too good - didn't seem to want to help out the staff who seemed overworked. The food wasn't great; it was all served buffet-style. But the surroundings made it enjoyable. All in all, a great place to stay with lots of adventurous things to do.

Casa Suizo was a very enjoyable, all too brief break from our recent go-go high altitude tour of Ecuador. From the moment we arrived it was obvious that this was the ideal place for my wife to recover from her bout with altitude sickness, and for me to continue to enjoy the spectacular Ecuadorian outdoors. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom was large, clean and well appointed. The included buffet meals were adequate and filling, and the price for drinks was modest in comparison with other lodging we experienced during our varied stay in Ecuador. The only thing that may be a drawback for some guests is the short but steep climb from the boat landing to the reception area, perhaps the equivalent of a four floor climb. But the view from the top, and the warm welcome more than makes up for the minor inconvenience. There is a variety of activities available from the resort, perhaps the most unique was a short balsa raft trip, which included the opportunity to swim in the Napo River (floating with the current, safely in a life jacket). I would recommend this inn highly, and plan to visit another by the same owners that is even more remote and deeper into the Amazon river basin on our next visit to Ecuador.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a clear view of the river. Some rooms have a restricted or no view of the river...

A resort built on a bluff overlooking the Napo River in the Amaxon. Like the balance of places we stayed there was not heat (not required) or cooling other than fans. The rooms are spacious and most overlook the resort and river with beautiful views of the mountain in the distance. We took a 15-20 minute canoe ride from Punta Ahuano however I believe there may be another way of getting there although paved roads seem to be lacking. There are opportunites to view the rain forest, canoe rides, local family visits, canopy tours and wild life. The food is well prepared with a variety of meats and veggies. The pool has a overlooking bar. Outside the back gate is the village of Ahuana, small but with a little ceramic shop and a balsam wood worker worth seeing. Enjoy the visit!

Room Tip: Mosquito repellant, try Sangre de Drago from the local shops.
