Description: Tucked away in Bishops Waltham, the Anvil is a tranquil, Tudor retreat. From a cup of tea to a complete meal, you will enjoy a unique and jovial atmosphere at this characterful eatery. Proprietor Fred adds a touch of personality which is always a nice thing. For a daytime eatery, the menu is superb - only improved by the fact that virtually ALL THE DISHES ARE GLUTEN FREE. For those with coeliac disease and other wheat aversions, The Anvil is a welcome break from the massive restrictions of ordinary eating out. As one of the very few gluten free eateries in Hampshire, it is worth the visit alone just to try Fred`s World Famous Bread & Butter Pudding.Dog friendly and easily accessible with a beautiful secluded rear courtyard with free one hour parking, customers are offered a unique blend of specialist foods and fine wines, all within the cheeriest of atmospheres. Wining and dining at The Anvil is more than eating and drinking - its an experience!!

Visited today and had lunch which was superb, sat in the garden, the sun was shining, Fred was chatty, service was brilliant, what more could you ask form have been here in the winter and had Fred's famous soups, will be a favourite now for Sunday Lunch too, which we don't always want to be a roast, next time we will try your famous bread and butter pudding, must leave room! Thanks Fred and your staff

Just tea and coffee on the first day of summer, but a delight. A recent building made of old timbers with a courtyard at the rear, provides a range of snacks and may be more. Our visit was just in passing, but everything was delightful, and all we can say is the nest time we are in Bishop's Waltham we will give it another visit - so much nicer than the main thoroughfare.

Saw this cafe after a long walk with the dog. They were so welcoming even though it was nearly closing time. Well-behaved dogs are allowed in part of the restaurant as well as the beautiful courtyard, and they are offered complimentary ham or carrot- what a nice touch. The building is very beautiful the cake delicious and comes with an enormous pot of tea. Friendly service and good value.

Been here a couple of times in the last few weeks. The food is always of the highest quality and properly home made. The soups are superb and we usually go fo the pean and ham-it reminds me of the one my Dad used to make 40 odd years ago.

The coffees are great with the Sumatran being my favourite.

I bought a couple of bottles of the "Shooting Port" as presents for a birthday and have to say it was one of the nicet ports I can remeber having and only £14 for a bottle.

it's a great little place to while away an hour or so knowing that you will always leave satisfied-and dare I say it but it leaves even the most popular coffee shop in the town reeling behind-but it isn't as hip with the local ladies who do coffee!!

Don't be put off by the outside which looks a bit tired. Inside was lovely and warm on a cold and wet afternoon and we were served by a charming waitress. We only had their soup of the day (butternut squash and chilli ..... delicious) and a cake but overall it was an oasis on a rubbish day. Highly recommended.
