Very good property in North of Mauritius, however quite a distance to cover if you have any plans to visit to South of the country. Hotel staff and amenities are excellent including swimming pool, pub, beach maintenance and entertainment. More food option may be included otherwise a holiday to remember:)

Room Tip: Ask for the pool facing rooms...quite private and nice pool view

Well, We and my wife visited Mauritius, Calodyne Sure Mer for a week holiday from 23rd to 30th Feb 2014. I am not an Indian, I am from Nepal, but my holiday was planned by Indian Tours & Travel : YATRA..COM, The flight was almost full of honeymoon couples. We were picked up by the agents car, and there were 4 (3 were Indians) couples on Half Board Basis (2times meals: B & D) that day for calodyne. Our welcome was fine, as the manager, Mr Robbin was waiting for new guests. We were described about the hotel's facility and then we were sent to our room. Mr. Robbin for the first 2 days though we were also Indians. The first day was quite tiring as flight was for 8.5hrs. As we headed towards the rooms, we saw the single-single bungalow on bothsides, which turned us excited that our room shall be in one of any bunglow. The surroundings, and pool looked very nice, where as bungalow were no both the sides of pool/pathway. The hotel looked amazing. The area is too silent. As we followed the hotel person towards room, we went towards the back of a bungalow. Every couple was surprised that, INDIAN GUESTS are offered the back rooms of those buildings, whici almost touched the boundry wall of hotel. There were some big flower plants, and medium trees, with grassed pathway towards room, which was offered as "SUPERIOR GARDEN VIEW ROOM". The highest room category as per hotel were those ( for Indians).
Room was looking good, as shown by travel agents before booking. The bed was decorated with some flowers. Fortunately, one of the Indian couple found ants on their bed. Later on, in the evening, we got to knew, that couple we alloted another room after 2-3 hrs, with a room having some issues water in the toilet.
In the dinner time, when we headed towards the dining hall, the place looked pretty, with well placed chairs and tables, the dining hall was sea side facing. At that moment, we saw atleast 25-30 tourists other from rest of the corners of world. We could see a no. of buffe burners placed on table at a corner, from where dinner was served. As we took our plates and moved ahead, soon all Vegetarians (including us) we very disappointed, as out of 7-8 burners only we could find 1 veg. item, RICE. As we informed the Head Waiters about being Veg. they said you can have salads, and Rice. Then as all of started arguing on waiters, another waiter said, to wait on the respective seats, we will send you veg food on your table. After waiting for 20-25 mins, we were sent: Boiled Potato Curry, with Plain Uncooked Lentil and 2-3 almost half or more uncooked Rotis/Indian Breads. As everyone informed the waiters to get cooked Rotis/Breads, they took another 15-20 mins for getting back, They bought same Roti's heating them again. Some how, they were managable. If any one demanded more Rotis, they had to wait for another 15-20 mins for 1 or 2 pcs, that too, if the waiters responded on their 2-3 calls.
After the dinner @ 8Pm, all of us we sitting near poolside, and were discussing about complaining to the Manager about food and service.
The next morning we had to reach sharp at 8 on the hotel front, as the cab for tour was scheduled. Fortunately Breakfast and Dinner timing were 8-10 in both the shifts. It became rush for everyone as breakfast had to be done before leaving. The breakfast was American style with variety of fruits, bread, etc. It was satisfying. During the tour we heard one of the couple saw snake near their room in the night. In the evening as we informed the manager, Mr. Robbing about Snake and last night dinner experience, he said its jungle & plants behind snakes can rarely be seen and for food he shall talk to the Chef about it. The second day dinner was the same way, but the curry was changed. Roti's were same half cooked and hard.
Third morning, same rush happened as there was another long day tour. In the evening again we asked Mr. Robbin for providing us proper Roti's, he said he ll talk to chef.
3rd night Dinner was romantic candle night dinner planned for every couple as per Itinerary schedule, fortunately, the dinner was satisfying.
4th day breakfast concluded with rush. and dinner was the same semi cooked rotis. This day, we and a Indian couple asked waiter to call Robbin at Dinner hall to see this uncooked food. As we had paid for everything, we were not on a free holiday, so we could bear it everyday. We waited for 20 mins, Robbin did not come. Then again querying to waiter, he rudely said, "he is in meeting, he can't come, if you want to talk to him, go to the front desk in his office." We both couple went to front desk, he was not in his office, the receptionist informed her twice, but he did not come till another 15 mins. Later receptionist said, he is in bar area with some guests. We headed towards bar area. He was not even there. Querying with bartender for Robbin, he said he having dinner, sitting in the corner near Buffet table. We went to him and argued, that why didn't he come to their table. We said about his waiter being rude and food being raw. He again said, he shall talk to Chef. I when said, its been 3 days we are here, and none of any night went with proper dinner. All of us were supposed to get well treatment as other guests. The problem was with Veg. Food. Other guest were having no issues regarding variety of non-veg cuisines. At that moment one of a waiter came and spoked in between us, the Indian couple who was with us talking to Robbing, said him not to speak in between. The waiter again very rudely infront of Robbing spoke very rudely to Indian Couple, said "if you don't like the food, then go away." Robbing sent him inside the kitchen and asked us to sit and talk, on his dining' table. Indian Couple refused, where as we sat. He said he can provide any other item like French Fries or Noodles for that night for both couples instead of Indian food for that moment.
Indian couple went back refusing his offer as they were disappointed with waiter;s behaviour.
Me and my wife continued talking to Robbin, and made him clear that it is our Honeymoon, we have paid for everything, All of us are not supposed to get such treatment with your staff and food should not be such raw, uncooked. He said, he shall probable get another cook next day for Indian food. That night we had to have either same, or french fries/ Noodles.
Later, we were served fries and noodles(full of lady fingers) after 20 mins.
Next morning was last tour for us, which concluded with breakfast in rush, and dinner with some cooked Rotis/Breads. That night, none of couple spoke to each other regarding the dinner quality.
Another 2 days, were in leisure, we stayed at hotel and enjoyed the hotel.
A disappointing thing was, the Calodyne's beach was quite small and it was not well maintained. Whereas, connectiong to same beach, there was another hotel, Zilwa's beach which was very beautiful and attractive.
There are almost no options in Calodyne for Vegetarians in lunch too except Sandwich or Pizza in lunch, which is served after 30-35 mins of order. There are no nearby restaurants near Calodyne, as its in one of the corner of Mauritius. We talked to the Chef and suggested to cook Roti's in Indian way. My wife explained the cook about making good roti, we also said to make search Google to make some spicy Indian Veg. using Paneer. Later last 2 dinners were delicious with no more issues in Roti's and Curry. There was some local cultral dance show organised one day, and another day, the DJ was there to play songs, where couples could enjoy dancing.
The last 2 days, were joyous, as staying at hotel, enjoying the pool and the beach view was perfect ending. Interaction with Robbin (with us) personally was fine in last two days.
Housekeeping and Reception Staffs are friendly. Mr. Robbin is also friend, but Waiters needed a strict change in their speaking language. Overall experience in Calydone was great, only first 3 days were weird due to dinner issues. The hotel is well located in a peacefull area, Cleanliness is maintained properly.
Lastly, we would say, Yes we would like to visit Calodyne again, if the budget goes same. Or some 4-5star property, if its higher.
Suggestion for Manager: Pls Place a proper Veg Menu & Make your Waiters Polite. Your Hotel is nice, Maintain with the facilities that you provide.
Suggestion for Veg. Visitors: Carry your dry longlasting food stuff from your home. You will definately need it everyday in evening snack and lunch. Carry Water bottles with you on your tours and Must Carry Skin Lotions and Caps, its quite hot in Mauritius...

Room Tip: Please check all details before you select your hotels. Travel Agents make you fool hiding the informations.

I booked Calodyne for my short stay in Mauritius via Kayak.
Price for the value was excellent. Property is a resort type right on the North Shore of the Island.
Sandy beach, snorkeling, diving facility right here.
Waters at the hotel beach are shallow - if you want to snorkel or dive you would need to take a trip.
Staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
Breakfast with a great variety of dishes was included.
Restaurant is quite good for both lunch and dinner.
If I come again to this friendly country - without hesitation would stay.
So if one comes by using a cab or with rental car with GPS - no problems at all.
Taxi always available and waiting at the Calodyne or can be called by staff.
I was using a rental car (get at the airport) and decided not have GPS.
Every time I was trying to find the resort I was lost multiple times - does not matter day or night.
Map that I have was not of much help, so I needed to stop and ask for Calodyne multiple times.
Everyone new the hotel and I was always able to get to the place.
This was fun experience - to find Calodyne - but I'm sure not for everyone.
Looks like everyone on the Island speak French and all either speak English or at least try.
One night when no one was around to ask (after midnight), I was desperately lost and somehow noticed an open Police station. Two policemen get into their vehicle, I followed and in ten minutes we found Calodyne.
Good Place - I wish I can come again.

Room Tip: Use either taxi or GPS, or be ready to ask for directions. If you are planning to dive - book one day before your planned diving date.
