“Great Food”
Reviewed 31 January 2012

Went on a Day Trip with friends to see Mt Batur and the Lake district, beautifull country side,
loved the village. Had lunch at Hotel Segara, fantastic, best Nasi Goreng during my stay in Bali, asked for it HOT and they made me a "special" homemade sambal. My friend had the fish from the Lake it was superb. As I understand it the fish are sacred and have to be eaten within 24 hrs of being caught.Great dining experience, friendly attentive staff, definately be back for some of that "special" sambal

We spent one night in this hotel with my friend before climbing the Mount Batur. As we found a cheaper offer to trek directly with the local guides than the hotel offer, we were then treated in a very harsh way. The supposedly included breakfast was suddenly no longer included, and the service was very rough... The rooms are basic, well located to start the climbing in the eraly mroning, but I would not recommend to stay there considering the way we were treated as soon as we had to refuse any additionnal costs (climbing, taxis, etc.)

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We have taken the feedback you have given very seriously and have spoken to all staff about this. The staff's approach to your situation was unprofessional.

Our staff are going to have some further training in customer service and your review and others are to be used as a base for that training.

The staff believed they were doing the right thing for the business (the room was part of an agreed package price, once the trekking was cancelled they didn't think to tell you the room would be more expensive if you did not take up the package - to include breakfast), they need training on what to do for customer satisfaction without hindering the business. This type of communication takes training and does not come natural to traditional Balinese who do not have to deal with conflict in their culture.

We send our deepest apologies for the way you were treated and hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Bali.

This is a basic facility, suitable for a one-night stay, so as to be able to climb Mount Batur before sunrise. Expect no more. I'd even say that if you don't intend to get up at 3 or 4 am, you shouldn't stay there since you'll be woken up by those who do.

Breakfast was surprisingly above the average we've had in Indonesia. The breakfast times allow you to eat when you're back from the trek.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, it is much appreciated.

We agree with your comments about being woken up by people trekking and we are currently changing the layout of the hotel, we have a new car-park away from the rooms, this car-park is especially for guest pick up at this early hour. We intend on placing signs up in the hotel to ask guests to be quiet when leaving the hotel for trekking.

Trekking Guides and Drivers are now to wait in the new car-park for their guests and if guests require a wake-up service they are to take a room at the front of the hotel and will not be able to have a room near a guest that is not trekking.

We hope this new system will help greatly with improving our guest satisfaction.

We stayed in Kedisan/Kintamani the night so we could be close by for the sunrise mountain climb (instead of staying in Ubud and driving in). This was one of 2 hotels Lonely Planet had listed and I wasn't successful finding much else with availability when I used Google. The room (delux room, the best the have) was cheap - $25US - but it was gross. Dirty walls, stained towels, dirty bathroom. No pubic hair or whatever, just a general griminess to the place. Super dated furniture as well, and the small TV mounted high on the wall only contributed to the dingy feeling. There is also nothing to do in the immediate area - except walk to the lake and be constantly harassed by vendors. The food at the hotel was decent and the drive to the base of the mountain was only 10 minutes. If I had to do it again, I would look harder for somewhere else to stay or stay in Ubud and drive in.
