“Old fashioned genuine hospitality”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

We arrived in the small hours of the morning to a warm welcome. We left in the small hours with a hearty breakfast of home cooked food and juices as Mila got up early to make sure we caught our flights. The airline lost our luggage but Mila helped us get it back with phone calls and even driving all the way to Sofia to get it for us (a day earlier than the other 10 passenger who also lost their bags cared for by Turkish Airlines). The rooms were comfortable and warm. The food was delicious. Our hosts were amazing! If you are looking for the charm of the old town in Bansko (which has the best ski slopes in Bulgaria) look no further. There is a bus stop round the corner which takes you to the slopes. There is a supermarket near by, and too many wonderful restaurants to mention. Thank you Mila for a wonderful holiday, snatched from the jaws of disaster.

Thangs to Mila and the mum for a great stay. We had terrible snow this year, but Mila was helpful to book SPA, hotel in Sofia, great Bulagrian breakfasts and 2 nice dinners. All he food was home made and tastes great!

I loved Bansko for the skiing, but this year was not good. So if I am returning to Bansko I will call Mila and ask to stay at her place!

Mila is easy to talk to and she fixes eveything u would need. From sending postcards to book the best dinners!

Tnx!

Room Tip: We had the whole place for our self and i checked out all the rooms. I dont thik i matters what u ge...

We booked a 21 night stay through another chalet operator who uses this property for independent travellers (vs. groups using a chalet). Despite the length of the booking we were given a tiny room. The bed which was apparently a standard Bulgarian offering was about 2 inches of padding, nailed to a board - completely inadequate and we had about 2 hours painful sleep after arriving at 2.30 am from the airport. This was sorted out with the aid of the operators who had placed us there and we eventually were given the biggest and best room in the house with a soft mattress. Bathrooms only have showers and they are tiny - if you're beyond an English size 14-16 - you won't fit. Lots of hot water though. Excellent free wi-fi in the room. Good heating. Though occasionally someone forgets to turn it on and you have to go down and remind them. Nice linen on the bed but be aware housekeeping is only every two days (keep your own towels dry!) and sheets are changed every so often. Breakfast is very hit and miss, but they (Mila and her mama) did try very hard and we had eggs on toast, mushrooms, cereal, jams established as a standard after 3 weeks (my chef husband showed them how to do a cooked breakfast). Hit and miss is how I'd describe it. On our 3rd night the restaurant/breakfast room, directly above the 2 second floor rooms was used for a massive party with a DJ and sound system that went till the early hours of the morning. We had to shift to the chalet next door that night, courtesy of our chalet operators, and the walls there were even vibrating. There was no response from Old House Management other than to invite us to a party with 100 or so Bulgarian strangers not speaking English - not ideal for us as we were purposely there for skiing. So there seems to be a bit of confusion about what the business is providing. Make sure you are 99% self sufficient as there is rarely anyone down at reception during the day and we didn't want to be phoning their Bulgarian mobiles all the time. For instance on our last day, "mama" disappeared after breakfast, Mila was out and we weren't expecting to see her again (she was due back the following day, we were leaving at 2 am). Our ski equipment was locked in the pantry (that's the secure storage) and it was 8 pm when we finally hit the panic button and had the chalet operator we booked through contact Mila who then drove back and unlocked it for us. A few days, a long weekend perhaps - it's nice to walk around the old town. 10 minutes walk to the gondola is a joke especially if the roads and pavements are covered in uncleared snow and ice (which is common) - allow 20 minutes to do it safely, if not more as it's slightly uphill going in to town. And you would not want to be carrying more than ski boots - so you definitely need to arrange with them for drop off and pick up (unless you get a locker in town, or rent your gear - so ok for beginners perhaps). (Our chalet operators picked us up and dropped us off each day with our skis, boots, etc). Don't be fooled by what appears to be an inexpensive price - there are a lot of properties in Bansko, closer to the lifts etc - do your research before committing.

Room Tip: Large room immediately below the stairs leading to the Breakfast Room - has a coffee table and small...

Really liked this tiny Hotel in the mountain village of Bansko, in the old part of the town. Excellent value for money.
We had a room in the very old part of the building, just at the top of the stairs, a very pretty room, quite large with wooden beams and a small window overlooking the rooftops and the mountains.
The bed linen was very pretty, crisp white linen - lovely. The bathroom adequate with a shower - no bath .
All very clean and the wifi in the room was excellent.
The breakfast was extra, 3 leba per person, ( about 1.50 euros). Very good with a wide selection of goodies - the jams etc. all homemade.
Mika was the lady who looked after us and she was very welcoming and we were made to feel at home.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this Hotel.

Hey, let me tell you what a great little town is Bansko... If u plan a ski vacatiaon that's the place.... wonderful and fun all the time..... I spent over a week there last winter, stayed in THE OLD HOUSE 1980 through the whole time... My vacation was even more awesome, just because The OLD HOUSE is lockated right in the centrum of the town, where all the taverns, discos and the sight seeings are... On the top of everything the hosts were so nice that they drove me to the Gondola ski lift every single day, and that saved me 10 min walking. I had a wonderful time there also because the two girls who are hosts and owners of that place took care of me. They were bringing me out with them to different places with theyrs friends and other tourists... It was great. I had the chance to explore the place not being just a regular tourist, but kinda guest visiting friends....
THANK YOU, my HOSTS. I'm Looking forward to see you this winter again... Will comfirm my reservation soon...

The room was really clean and comfortable.
The guest house is right at the centre of the town, where all the taverns and discos are. And the owner was giving me a ride to the Gondola lift every day, although its a 10 minute walking distance.
