“Perfect for a first time ski holiday”
Reviewed 27 December 2009

This was our first ski holiday together, the hotel was in a great location inbetween the old town, museums and the gondola and ski centre.
The room was one of the cleanest that we have ever stayed in, the hotel staff were always at hand to help if required, and very efficient.
The locals were very friendly and polite, and had very little difficulty with speaking and understanding english, there were lots of great places to eat and drink for every type whether you wanted a busy night out or a quiet meal and drink with the other half.
The skiing was great for beginners with a couple of black runs for the more confident. The instructors were available for general information about the slopes and again had a good grasp of the english language making lessons easy to follow.
It was the beginning of the season so the pistes were a little sketchy at times with some lifts being closed but there was still enough open and enough work done by the ski resort staff to make sure that there was still skiing to be had and the holiday enjoyable, Also if you are a vegetarian you are going to struggle, check out food guide on local cuisine!

This for me and my girlfriend was our first ski holiday, so I guess it was always going to be a great experience. Bulgaria is on first impression a very simple country, this hotel is very in keeping with that notion nothing extravagant but very nice at the same time. We had a wonderful stay here the room was clean and tidy the bathroom too. the only down side is that it’s a little out of the way from the gondola and town centre but the friendly hotel staff and mini bus is always on hand to take you to these areas and pick you up. In saying that the price that you pay to stay here what more can you ask for i would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great ski holiday on a tight budget you won’t be disappointed one final note on the most important thing the skiing.. Superb runs and facilities please go and enjoy!!!!

It was my first skiing holiday so i was unsure what to expect. The hotel is small and family ran, you get to know the staff over your stay and they get to know your routines for the minibus meals coming in after a few drinks etc. we went as a couple but met other guests at meal times 5-7.30 enough to have a sleep after a hard day on the slopes. th staff were helpful and dropped us off into the town whenever we wanted. they have a seperate cabin for your boot and skiis to dry out, and to get back after skiing they came at half hourly periods and the minibus was distinctive compared to all the white large minbuses from all other hotels. the rooms were well sized, the only thing was the shower, you hd a curtain but the water drained out in the middle of the bathroom so when you were finished the floor was like a paddling pool, but this maybe what all facilties are like in bulgaria. rooms were cleaned daily to a great standard and you have a safe in the room. We had a balcony with seats with a great view of the mountains. The food was delicious, you were given a choice of evening meal (3 courses) each day at beakfast, breakfast was cooked but different everyday, but fruit, mufins tea, coffee cereal etc were also available. They ha da steam room but you had to pay. It was about a fifteen min walk to the apres ski area, wathc out for pot holes in the pavement! heard a lot of people injured themselves drunk before even hitting the slopes. Overall we had a great time and would recommend bansko for cheapness, basic skiing, and it march we had lovely hot weatherand good snow from the cannons.

We stayed here over easter and had a wonderful week in this small, friendly, family run hotel. This is a new hotel and was immaculate. Although it is a little out of the way, the new, efficient hotel bus transters you the half mile to and from the ski station. The old town is only a 5 minute walk. The breakfast is good, but we found the evening meal a little basic so ate out most nights. Stay away from the English pubs and eat and drink Bulgarian. Its good and so cheap. If you are coming to Bansko its probably because you are on a budget. If so, this is the place to stay. The skiing was excellent, the hotel was great. Not quite the Alps but half the price!

Stayed at the Bisev for w/c 21 jan 06. This hotel has just 8 rooms, but is family run and it shows in the decor and cleanliness.

It is a good 10 - 15 minute walk from the gondola (and main eating / drinking places), not something to be attempted in ski gear, but they have a free crappy minibus (which is all that you need in Bulgaria, the roads are of the standard of pot-holed farm tracks in the main!) to take you up and back to the gondola.

Very clean rooms and bathrooms, they even cleaned the balcony daily, not somewhere we ventured at all considering the temperature never rose above minus 5c.

Mini-bar quite entertaining, in that it was cheap, 30p for a can of coke and other soft drinks, a pound for everything else, including 0.2l of local vodka.

The hotel itself is up a road which can't fit coaches, so you'll need to get your own gear up the road or get some help from the hotel.

Within the 'back garden' it has a secure out-house for storing your ski's, boots, equipment etc, which had a heater in when we were there to help dry out wet ski boot inners.

Breakfast was ok, but the 'cookies and coffee' each day at 5pm was spot on after a day on the slopes. Another 1 pound well spent, it usually comprised home made cake or biscuits and a hot drink.

Don't be put off by the 2 star rating if you are looking for a comfortable clean friendly hotel. Don't stay here if you'd prefer to never leave the hotel though, as it has few amenities. But we were there to ski.
