“Spectacular views”
Reviewed 31 January 2014

We spent two nights here in the ensuite double room. For the first night we were the only guests. Nothing was too much trouble and we were well looked after. Did a couple of local walks on the first day and then the trek to Feynon Lodge on the next day. This walk is all down hill but takes about 5 hours. Every room has a balcony with spectacular views and usually wonderful sunsets. Food is basic, but there is plenty of it.

Room Tip: Try to get the ensuite double room.

We arrived at the Dana Guesthouse by a mistake. We had a reservation for Feynan Ecolodge but our taxi driver brought us to the wrong hotel, which was a 2.5 hour drive around the reserve from Feynan.

When we arrived at Dana, Malik, an employee, was incredibly nice and helpful. He immediately explained that our hotel was 14 km hiking, but a 2.5 hour. He then explained everything to our driver, spoke to the party who had improperly booked our taxi, gave us tea and made numerous phone calls on our behalf.

Ultimately, he suggested that we hike the 14 km, and offered us a room to change, restrooms, more tea, water and snacks. He gave us great directions, in excellent English, and overall was a delight. He also agreed to send our luggage to Feynan, for no charge, the following day. Our luggage arrived with no issue.

Malik, and the Dana Guesthouse, provided excellent service even to us even though we weren't guests. It really was a delight speaking with him and if I ever return to the area, I would certainly stay at the Guesthouse!

The view here is beautiful, especially at sunset. We visited in the winter, and it was extremely windy and pretty cold outside, but it was warm inside and the floors are heated. It was very nice waking up in the middle of the night thinking I was going to freeze on the walk to the bathroom, only to find the floors warm. There was a fire in the wood burning fireplace that was wonderful in the evening. The water was warm and the shower pressure was good, but the bathrooms are separate from the rooms in all but one room. Everything was clean and orderly. The one thing I did not particularly care for was top bunk and the steps to get down. While I was comfortable enough in the bed, it was impossible to keep anything with me there such as a phone, book or water, etc, as the sides of the upper bunk were shallow and had holes so things fall through. And, I didn't hang out on the ladder or anything, but it was not very comfortable climbing up and down, as the steps were metal (but not flat). I would love to go back in summer and stay longer next time. It was a beautiful and peaceful place. In fact, I would take that upper bunk again, no problem. Side note: The people employed there are all local. The food they make is made with as many local ingredients as possible. The soap they give you to use is made locally, and there is a shop with locally produced goods that you can purchase for keepsakes or gifts that is across the parking lot. Really a great great place!

We stayed in Dana Guest house for 2 nights.

Pros:
- Location – On a cliff, amazing views and beautiful sunset
- Every room has a patio
- Rooms are basic, spacious and clean for the most part
- Bathroom clean and shower is good, hot water all day long which is good for winters (gets really cold)
- The entire guest house is kept warm, which feels really cozy.
- The place is quiet and remote with great views, which is the main attraction
- Breakfast is good. Various small plates, bread and omelet.

Cons:
- Dinner not recommended, especially if you are vegetarian – We paid $20 per person for dinner, it was a lot of cold plate appetizers and bread. No hot vegetarian meal. For the price we paid, definitely not worth it. There are a few other restaurants in town, might be cheaper than eating at the Guest house. The other drawback is, if you want Dinner, you have to book in advance, which kind of leaves you with no options if you don’t book in advance and are not able to find food any place else in the village.
- The guest house is supposed to be smoke free, it is not, which was a disappointment - Given that it is a Nature preserve. People smoke in the common area and the office.
- Throwing tissue boxes in the fire is a thing to do, saw more than one person do it.
- WiFi only works in the common area.
- Definitely no value for money. Getting to the guest house is expensive and you pay a lot of money to stay at Dana with basic facilities and mediocre food.
- One of the nights we stayed there, the place was hosting a local dinner party, lots and lots of people poured in the common area to eat and basically we were forced out of there. Some pre-warning about this would have been nice; we picked this place and paid a lot for the peace and quiet; we should have been told about it when we made the booking. It cost us approx $350 to stay at the Guest House. It was a bit frustrating.
- I emailed the office of Wild Jordan in Amman where we made reservations and paid money informing them about what happened. I got a reply with no explanation about the loud party. Bottom line, I think it is hyped more than it's worth and doesn't provide service that matches the amount of money they charge.

Do not recommend, I think if we would have had time to do more research, we would have stayed at a much cheaper place in the village and with the same level of service and facilities.

Room Tip: Find someplace way cheaper in the same area with almost similar facilities, location is the only thi...

Spent two nights here with my mom in December. Beautiful view from the private balcony (almost all rooms) overlooking the canyon. Helpful staff, but didn't find out hiking options until the next morning and didn't have any assistance carrying in luggage (my mom and I, both females). Nice breakfast spread (flat bread, butter, jam, omelette, dates, hummous, tomatoes, cucumbers, tea/coffee/juice/water) at 0830 every morning. You do NOT want to drive here at night...very difficult to find and signs are confusing. Note that it's IN Dana Village so you have to go down the long, steep, winding hill into Dana Village and then there's a sign on the left (go past Blue Moon Hotel). Staff were very helpful. You can help yourself to tea/coffee any time of the day. Only room 9 has a private bathroom (toilet and shower). Beautiful private balcony views overlooking the canyon and stunning sunsets. Definitely recommend this place, a bit off the beaten path. Not many hikes without guides and wouldn't recommend the "Spring" Hike as there is trash all over and it's not a great view (go past the rock with "END" written on it) for a better view.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a private balcony overlooking the canyon, but only Room 9 has a private bathroom (to...

The Dana Guesthouse offers basic accommodation with shared facilities, however it's major attraction is its location. Perched on the clifftop on the edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, you couldn't ask for somewhere more beautiful and peaceful.

Our room had a terrace, which was a great spot to enjoy the sunset over the valley. Our room also had 2 bunk beds in it, which didn't make for the most romantic stay, but it was clean and comfortable.

The staff were very friendly, the local food for dinner was delicious and the packed lunch was generous. Can't recommend the walk from Dana to Feynan highly enough - we had a brilliant day walking through the valley admiring the stunning scenery.

Room Tip: Book a room with a terrace to watch the sunset.
