“Very good experience - nice and comfy hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2014

Amra Palace Hotel is one of the best hotels in Wadi Musa, located about 1.2 km uphill from the entrance to Petra. It means that to get to Petra you can walk easily. On the way back after the whole day in the valley, you might want to get a taxi.

I was a budget traveller and ending up in this hotel was a very positive surprise. It has 3 stars (***) and it is very nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room designed in a modern style, as of 4 stars (****) in Europe. And for the price about EUR 50 for a double bed room?

I was travelling in December so no use of the airconditioning, I used it to heat up the room (up to 25 C +).

Their evening buffet dinners were just amazing, local Jordanian cousine including dezerts (original recipes). Please don´t expect any alcohol (just local non-alcoholic beer).

You may try that your room is located further from the elevator (could be noisy). And I did not manage to get really hot water (just slightly warm) - could be nice in summer, but I was travelling in winter.

And certainly try their "spa and scrab massage". The environment is not a modern Austrian mountain spa, but the hand touch is an interesting experience (for only 13 JD - special offer).

If you want to go out, try "Orient Café", it is a shisha bar where you can experience (for just 3-5 JD) how the water pipe should be served and enjoyed (1.5 hour of a regular car of a specialised guy).

Room Tip: Stay further from the elevators.

This is the perfect place to stay on a visit to the ancient city of Petra. It is comfortable and in a great location - very easy to get to the old city. My brother and I stayed here before Christmas during the worst weather seen by Jordan in 100 years. On our way from Amman we got stuck in a blizzard in the mountains. After spending the night with a local family we woke up to find the weather had worsened. Our rescuers in the village said it would not be possible to get to Petra for at least another 2 days. We called the Amra Palace Hotel and they sparked - before long we were being rescued by the Jordanian army! We managed to get to Petra that evening, exceeding all expectations. On top of this, the following day they rescued our car (we had left it up the mountain) whilst we were enjoying the old city. All in all it is a fantastic hotel run by very kind people.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We were coming from Amman and wanted a nice clean hotel to stay in while we explore Petra and Wadi Rum the next day and were on a budget . Normally we stay in Hilton/Mariott , but found them quite expensive in Petra so chose this hotel from trip advisor reviews and must say we were hit the right one again. Most important for a hotel is being clean and efficient and this hotel scores on it 100%. It has a few people in its staff and you do not get the frills of room service etc, but do we really need it. All what we wanted was arranged by the front desk. Only problem we had at the hotel was that locker was not working. ...but we lived with it. The manager of the hotel is a nice guy who will come to ask how things are at either dinner time or at lunch and also offered my wife a complimentary tea for the time spent in getting back feedback. The breakfast offered choices of eggs and some hot items. Not the most elegant, but at the price we had, it was worth it. We also had dinner at the hotel for 2 of the 3 nights and it was really worth the money we payed for it. i night we went out to look for diner and without having a car its quite difficult to go beyond a point with a kid and stroller due to mountain terrain roads and so we ate at a nearby restaurant and decided that diner was best at the hotel. The lunch box they packed was really not worth it...better to buy sandwiches from somewhere else to carry on the petra trip. You need a car if you are at this hotel and there is parking available. We went to the swimming pool and jacuzzi also...clean and quite empty and enjoyed the time there. There was a rocking horse in the lobby and staff ensured that children have a good time. The lift was small but adequate...one can also easily walk up and down the stairs. The hotel efficiency is measured by the fact that they even have sensitive lighting ie that the lights in the hallway would switch off if there are no people movements. Mostly european and many french speaking guests during our visit. I found that they had really good offers to go to Wadi rum from the hotel and even had options of car to pick up from Amman which sounded reasonable. Thus one can plan that if you are leaving Amman to come to Petra, just call up the hotel who can make up the rest of the package or decide once reaching the hotel. We slept well and i did not hear any noise at all. The bed was quite comfortable and washroom small but clean and adequate. Best to get your own toiletries with you

This was a great place to stay in Wadi Musa to visit the sights at Petra. Food was not included in the price, but the rate was reasonable and the food was abundant and delicious. The hotel staff was very informative and friendly. Beds are comfortable and rooms are quiet. Hotel provides complimentary shuttle to Petra, but only between specific hours.
Would stay again!

Stayed for one night at the Amra Palace after having toured Petra itself for the whole day. The hotel is priced pretty well, at least in relation to the bigger hotels downtown near the Petra entrance.

Rooms are small and just a little bit outdated but everything was in good working order & clean throughout the hotel. The wi-fi was suuuuuperslow, even if free.

Breakfast was a great selection and even though the room was pretty full they kept everything supplied.

Location is a little bits away from Petra itself. Wasn't a problem for me as I had a rental car. And they do have transportation down to Petra and back up at certain times during the day. But walking up back to the hotel at night would've been a little cumbersome.

Also they have a nice car park just outside hotel which is good because there's very little parking available in the streets.

We stayed overnight after Petra and before Wadi Rum. We had read the many reviews and knew what to expect. We were not disappointed. Despite the presence of nearby mosques, the double-glazed windows offered reasonable sound insulation. The surroundings are nice, the staff is very friendly, helpful and polite, the buffet dinner was varied and copious, offering a choice of Middle-Eastern and international dishes. Unfortunately a group of noisy Scandinavian or Nordic tourists acted in the restaurant as if they had the place to themselves, but it's no fault of the hotel. I had forgotten my reading glasses, the hotel found them and arranged to have them sent back to me in Switzerland. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Fayez for his help in this matter. My only criticism is that bathroom was rather small, and one had to twist around between the washbasin and the toilet. Having said that, it's a minor point. I definitely recommend this hotel and, Incha' Allah, may stay there again someday!

After staying in a cheaper hotel ($40usd/night), I booked the Amra ($80usd/night) for the 1 night I was in Petra, and what a joy it was. The hotel is very clean, well decorated and is run by nice people. They offer a shuttle to Petra. I was very tired after my day walking through the ruins, and they brought me dinner from the restaurant to my room for no extra charge. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and safe. It is right near the bus station but a little further from the ruins, so staying here depends on how close you want to be to transportation. I had an early bus the next day, so this worked perfectly for me!
