We had two chicken shawarma they were so dry even the watered down tahini couldn’t save them!! We ended up feeding them to the local stray dogs. The chicken felt like it had been cooked multiple times.

This restaurant is recommended by TripAdvisor but it shouldn’t. We had two chicken shawarmas. They were very small and dry. No toppings at all inside...

If you're visiting Petra then a trip to Red Cave on your way back is a must! I've never really eaten Bedouin cuisine before, and I was blown away by the flavours going on here. The outstanding highlight is the Magluba, while the Mansaf is also excellent. Our host, Abdul, was great, being very polite and welcoming, and even brought us out some mint tea after we had finished and paid the bill as we were enjoying the mountain views. Exceptional eating and essential if you're in town!

The Red Cave Restaurant was recommended to us by our daughter who does archaeology work in Petra and has eaten there often. She told us it's the place where they take all their students and guests to eat at least once a dig season because of the delicious and authentic Bedouin cuisine. My wife and I arrived hungry for a late lunch after a hot morning exploring Petra. We both chose the shawarma sandwich which came served with french fries. The meat was tender and flavorful and it hit the spot. We also ordered the mint lemonade which was probably the best thing I drank during the entire Jordan trip. Cold and refreshing, I wished I had ordered a refill! The ketchup for the fries was a little weird (more the consistency of sweet and sour sauce than ketchup), but it also came with a packet of mayo which was put to good use mixing up a fry sauce of sorts. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Prices were reasonable and service was good. If we ever make it back to Petra, I'll definitely be coming back and this time we'll order the full dinner spread. Thumbs up Red Cave!
