Quite a few years since we have been to Mt Barney Lodge, and we regret it! It did not take us long to remember why we love it so much, and we were soon settled in for the weekend. We took our van, but there are many other accommodation styles available if you do not have your own van or tent. The grounds are always spotless as are the amenities. You can do as much or as little as you want, the choice is yours. The kids night adventures though are well worth doing. Plenty of fire pits dotted around the site, and lots of shade. Next time we will not leave it so long between visits!

This is our third trip to Mt Barney Lodge. We always camp in the lower padlock. Open fires are great especially on cold nights. Logan river which flows near by is great for kids & adults. Amenities are always clean & the flowers in there are a nice touch. The people that work there are an asset to Tracey & Innes. Sam was a very helpful with different walking tracks around the area. Looking forward to our next visit

Thank you Nicole for your review. Our staff are a big part of the reason our guests enjoy the Lodge and come back many times. We have many new faces at times, but are also pleased that some staff like Sam come back time and time again in various roles as their knowledge about the area is fantastic. See you next time.

It seems I am joining the growing number of very happy campers that have been to Mt Barney lodge. My family and I stayed 3 nights over the weekend recently. We have stayed at a number of camping sites an hour or so from Brisbane with our two young boys and we believe Mt Barney Lodge represents the best experience so far.

Things we liked:
- Great level camping areas
- Nice vegetation and good functioning fire pits to set up your tent around
- Good amount of trees for shade
- Great proximity to toilet, showers and washing up facilities
- Beautiful creek adjacent to camp site with many swimming and exploring areas that can be enjoyed with other campers or you can find one all to yourself if you walk a little further.
- Excellent staff who were friendly and helpful
- Clean facilities
- Creek and swimming pools with rope swing! great fun for the whole family. One of the nicest looking creeks we have seen with clear, clean running water. A wonderful respite for the warmer months.

In particular, we have been to a few camping sites with very authoritarian site managers, with signs barking orders at every turn. Can't do this, Don't do that, You Must Comply! I appreciate that some people may be less experienced at camping and do not understand the importance or keeping sound levels low or looking after the facilities to ensure happiness for everyone, but it was wonderful to see the many signs providing polite guidelines and sharing information in a courteous manner.

We will be back for sure!

Room Tip: Even though the numbers are capped at 100, as with any camp site, try to get there on a change over day, or early on the weekend (even Friday) to ensure you get a camp site that suits your needs. Definitely bring your togs for a swim in the creek. Cold at first, but lovely once you jump in.

Our new office motto will be "happy campers" - I love it!!

Running a popular campground does present ongoing management challenges, as we aim to have facilities in tip top shape for each weekend. This is one of the reasons we cap our numbers, as it makes this management and coordination more streamlined and effective - I'm glad you noticed it. :) The trick is to make it appear seamless, while working very hard behind the scenes!!

We agree that "rules" and "signs" are yuk, and detract from the holiday feel. We prefer just to talk incoming guests through any house rules - the top three right now are to use the existing fireplaces, not building a new one on the grass; a 10 pm noise curfew; and walk to facilities rather than drive. We find that because most people come back again and again, that we only have to do this on their first stay, so there are no need for signs.

Also, as we live onsite, just always being around gives us the ability to be hands-on and address any issues on the spot, in person.

Have you seen our recent fun Facebook series on "Camping Etiquette"? - we are finding alot of guests already know our house rules from reading these posts.

Save the signs for the cities I reckon!!

We camped in our camper trailer and it was a lovely, grassy area with nice shady trees. The best thing was we did not feel crowded in even though it was the School Holidays. Great idea the owners have by having a cap on number of guests as this left heaps of space to throw a ball, play cricket or just relax with a book under the cool shade of the trees and not feel surrounded by people.....you feel like you're in the wilderness. The kids loved the swimming in the creek especially the rope swing in the trees.....they had a blast. The Amenities were kept nice and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We found the town of Boonah nearby a friendly little place with great food and shops for any supplies we were running low on. The only disappointment was the the National Park was closed when we were there due to a fire on the mountain so we didn't get to see any of it. However, the surrounding areas were nice for a walk and photography. We may just have to return so we can visit the National Park. Thank you all at Mt. Barney Lodge it's great to see people with a passion for the environment.

Room Tip: Camp under the stars! It's the best way to do it!

Thank you cg for taking the time to post a review.
We are glad you had such an enjoyable holiday break at Mt Barney Lodge, all the staff also enyoyed the holiday vibe, and the weather was sensational. I kept telling guests that "it doesn't get any better than this". Actually it does - when the park is open for full access it is perfect!! The controlled burn of Mt Barney actually lasted the whole two weeks of the holidays - it was just reopened today. Park alerts about closures can always be checked here: http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/mount-barney .
But we do have to thank QPWS for their quick response and expertise in backburning the out-of-control campfires that were originally lit by walkers in the National Park. Although the burn was inconvenient, it was a stunning night sight. Check out our Facebook page for some of the amazing night photos people have posted. :)
