“Great experience”
Reviewed 24 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

This cottage is in what we believe is the best location in the entire Cape Town coast: Warm water, safe bathing, natural surroundings and very private. We found Milestone to be thoughtfully equipped, comfortable and well managed.
Will certainly visit again!

“Never before have we stayed in such a property”
Reviewed 18 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

We are in our later years and do not need full family accommodation not uber-modern places to stay. The step back in time to a more peaceful age was immediate, and although the third bedroom was with bunk beds, the other two afforded wonderful views of the Indian Ocean which starts a few paces from the rear garden. The sight of the lights of False Bay in the evening are panoramic, and under the full moon we had on our first night, the effect was , for us, a magic moment never to be forgotten. That this building, a beach cottage erected almost 100 years ago, is still standing is testament to the build quality of the founder, and the sympathetic interior furniture and décor shows that the owner has great design awareness. Tremendous value and a highpoint of our travels, ever!

Thanks Stephanie and Adam. Glad you enjoyed your stay. It is wonderful when guests 'get' what The Milestone offers - a comfortable stay in an extraordinary location where natural surroundings and privacy are combined with a reasonable travelling distance to Cape Town's popular attractions.

“Amazing views”
Reviewed 20 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

An amazing spot. We were met by the manager who was was very helpful explaining what was what. Good security. Well kitted out for everything you need.
Climbing on rocks of the foreshore was great for children and adults. Lots of beach toys in the laundry room. Towels for the beach as well as inside. Amazing to walk to Boulders beach via the little beaches along the way. The weather was windy and at times it was impossible to have a paddle as too chilly and waves too big (but v early spring so not surprising).
There is a patio at the back and the side of the house so no need to be blown about too much.
The favourite spot for the children inside was the back 'sun room' which they appropriated as a children only space and their Den.
Unfortunately no penguins but there was a mongoose in the undergrowth who likes a bit of apple early in the morning.
Many thanks to all for a great stay.

Thank you Keri. It was lovely to meet you and your two adorable daughters. I hope we'll meet again. The penguin and dassie populations have taken a dive lately due to caracals that were praying on them. Two were caught by the municipality at The Milestone and have been relocated to Hout Bay. So, hopefully the penguin numbers will now increase again. Penguins lay only one or two eggs a year so the rate of increase might be slow.

“Perfect for relaxation”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in June 2013

This picturesque house offers all that you need for seaside relaxation. The coast is beautiful, and when I visited I even spotted a whale as it appeared briefly. You can grill in the barbecue station that they have, and enjoy watching the horizon.

Be aware; it is incredibly windy. It is open to the ocean, after all.

“Idyllic perfection”
Reviewed 31 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

This is a beautiful and almost secret place only about 2km west of Simons Town, with its own garden reaching down to the sea; its location makes it convenient not only for visiting central Cape Town via the most scenic routes, eg Chapman's Peak Drive or the M3 through the best suburbs, but enables you to visit the wine areas of Stellenbosch and beyond, and the Garden Route, without having to go through the city centre.
The location is absolutely stunning with a 180 degree panorama of False Bay; the accommodation (we were 4 adults) could not be faulted; the place is lovingly, eclectically, comprehensively furnished, and spotless, cared for by the owner Alida who lives nearby. There are two en suite bathrooms, incidentally, not one as stated in some reviews. In addition there is spacious bunk accommodation in a separate bedroom for two children.
We really hope we can return in the future.

“An absolutely stunning spot..”

The house has simply the most stunning location...the view is breathtaking. Access is directly from the sloping garden onto the rocks. Swimming possible in front if the house but a little challenging and depends on the sea state. Very close to Fisherman's Beach ( can be very windy) and a 10 to 15 min walk / 2 minute drive to the very sheltered Boulders Beach (probably the best beach on the peninsula for small children). And the penguins at Boulders are an added bonus!

The house is circa 1920 and has been very tastefully updated and decorated in keeping with the age of the property, and maintains an informal "beach house" feel. The view from the loo is probably the best in the world! It is fully appointed for an extended, fully self contained, stay with many thoughtful extras available (eg a selection of beach toys for kids, picnic equipment, swimming towels etc). A cot and high chair are recent extras available.

The patio area very well laid out for eating outside, barbecuing, watching the sea ( many hours can be spent doing this!) and taking in the view. Well sheltered from the prevailing southeasterly summer wind.

Location is perfect for exploring the southern peninsula, Cape Point nature reserve, Fishhoek, Scarborough etc, or simply relaxing in and around Simon's Town. Not ideally situated if your holiday is focused around activity in the City or Waterfront as this is a good hour or more away depending on traffic.

The house is (thankfully) not surrounded by walls and security fencing, but does have an alarm system.

We were very comfortable here with a crawling baby, but the steps, edges and sloping garden and direct access to the sea are probably not well suited to young toddlers...grandparents (80+) loved it!

This is a place to chill out and enjoy the beauty of the peninsula.
