“Nice rooms and great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2009

This is a perfect place to stay at if you want to visit Cape Town (by train, 30mins), Cape of Good Hope (30mins by taxi) and there are also plenty of nice bars/restaurant in Simons Town for eating and socialising.

We wanted to spend a couple of nights on the peninsula to explore the area and chose Simons' Town as a base in between visiting the Winelands and Cape Town. We didn't choose particularly well as Simons' Town doesn't in our opinion have much going for it. Still we only used it as a base althoguh we did struggle to get anything decent to eat in the evenings and had to drive to find anywhere that was decent.

We picked this hotel as there didn't seem to be a huge choice and it may suffer a bit from lack of decent competition. The hotel was on the sea front and the best thing was the views although as we were on the upper floor we didn't get a balcony only french doors. The room was clean enough but the furniture was a bit cheap looking and a bit basic and the room wasn't a great size.

The price included breakfast but for this you have to collect a voucher and head to the cafe on the front (2 mins away). No big issue but the voucher wasn't that generous and as a result if you didnt want to put in some of your own cash then you couldn't have a full choice of the breakfast menu.

We may have been spoilt with the quality of the two other places we stayed at in South Africa but staying at this hotel and in Simon's Town in general was disappointing. Oh and avoid going into the Nelson for a drink!

Great several days here touring the area. The staff could not have been nicer and more helpful. If you take a cab, however, note that they run on Africa time--not USA time--give them a while to get you!!!
For food- The Meeting Place has GREAT food.

we stayed in this hotel for 6 days in oct 2008, we stayed in the victorian suite which was a massive apartment with every thing you need, clean sheets fluffy towels, great views over harbour. the hotel does no food but plenty of restaurants next door for breakfast/ dinner. hotel change was £74 a night. apartment had 2 bathrooms handy with 2 teenager boys, fully recommend this hotel, great staff and can not wait to go back !!!!
