We'd seen a few good reviews, so decided to give the restaurant a try, but were very disappointed with our meal. The pasta was overcooked and bland and the seafood was okay, but not good. Our visit was also made very uncomfortable by a loud, drunk guest who was not removed by management, but allowed to stay and disrupt our meal right until the bitter end.

As always we appreciate all reviews and thank you for the constructive feedback on the pasta, noted and will attend to it.

The drunken guest is the first time ever episode in our restaurant and maybe therefore it wasn't handled properly, she is a local customer but has subsequently been banned from our restaurant.

We are really sorry that you didn't have a good experience in our restaurant and hope that you will give us another try next time you are in SA. Heleen

Although the venue was small and empty, service took ages.
Breakfast left us feeling ill.

Skip, dont think we'll be going back

I am sorry that you didn't take the time to rather write a review with constructive criticism instead of in the vein of what you wrote as we always try to improve where we can and we welcome input from our customers, good and bad but this was just really negative. Heleen Marx

The quality of food is perfect. Combined with a nice environment and internal decor, this place makes for a very nice meal. The head chef/owner comes out and talks to you to add to the nice atmosphere. If you go you'll have to try the cakes they make, to die for honestly. I had two bits It was that good.

So glad you enjoyed our cakes, a lovely lady in the next little town bakes them for us freshly twice a week. Brett, my husband is also the chef at night and he loves coming out of the kitchen to chat to all our guests.....thank you for mentioning that, he will appreciate it. Regards, Heleen

I have consumed fish and chips in many locales, but the Lighthouse Café now holds the record for the best I have had. My wife had a delightful chicken salad which contained grapes and walnuts. She also purred as she downed the chocolate dessert with great pleasure. A small unassuming restaurant which lets its food do the talking.

What a pleasure to have read this, because it shows that the fundamental approach to our restaurant; i.e. "let the food do the talking" as you phrased it so well, is being understood by our customers.

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. Regards, Heleen

For the first time I heard good reviews about Trip Advisor from the husband and wife team who runs this place. They said that people had come 'from all over the world' particularly in the last season. Its nice to know us contributors are not wasting our time.

The theme is very french but amazingly the wife had never been 'but really wanted to'. The way the rand is going at the moment (up for us, down for South Africans) she may have to wait some time.

We went on a sunny day and other half had a very inventive salad and I indulged my sweet tooth.- a combination of apples and blue berries in a crumble with clotted cream on. Yum yum. The service for the salad was a trifle slow but hey it was worth the wait.

Parking is good right outside - you get one free hour but having said that I never saw any traffic wardens.

Hello there, I remember you and your wife well, yes, a whimsical desire for me to visit France! So glad you enjoyed your visit with us and especially our signature dessert, the Apple Berry Crumble! All the best, Heleen
