This is an easily reached penguin colony near Cape Town. The penguins are small little guys (about 60 to 70 cm high) and are called African Penguins, although they are also known as the Jackass Penguin. You can get very close to them on the walkways that run through the colony. The walkways can easily be navigated by anyone with mobility issues, so this is a great opportunity to see penguins in the wild. The penguins can be seen nesting, walking and swimming. A sign at the start of the walkway describes their characteristics and life. There is a gift store at the entrance that has a small collection of souvenirs for sale including shirts.

It's worth going to see the cutest little penguins. They just hang out on the beach & you can watch them waddle out to sea & then when they return, they just pop out of nowhere. It was fun to try to find them in the water (not easy). They have nice walkways to walk through the trees & see their little homes. We even saw some babies. So cute. You only need about an hour to see all of it, so don't miss it.

Who knew there were penguins in South Africa...? Apparently tons of people! There were a lot of people watching those cute critters and all their babies! We visited in May 2014 and there were lots of visitors admiring the penguins right along with us. Lots of fun!

There were plenty of penguins to see, babies, teenagers, adults and blues. They strutted their stuff and posed for our photo's. The gelato shop just before you get to the colony serves the best gelato ever.
