Wonderful location, you can walk onto the beach amongst the penguins (they do go quiet during the night!). Food at Boulders Beach Lodge was fantastic. Accomodation very roomy, had a bit of a problem with the toilet flush but nothing major.

We chose to stay at Boulders because we wanted to maximise our time near the Penguins ... and we got to do just that as they were 'staying' at the hotel too: there were some nesting in the garden. We worried that we wouldn't be able to sleep as they started making a loud braying noise in the evening .... but it turned out this was just their feeding time (!) and in the night itself they were quiet. It was wonderful to be up close to such lovely creatures. The hotel itself is nice and the restaurant is superb; the staff in the restaurant are super-friendly and create a great atmosphere.

What a great location if you want to see the amazing penguins. Be warned, they are pretty noisy at night (not the hotel's fault!) so don't complain if you want to visit wildlife! Excellent, helpful, friendly staff and great breakfasts. Thoroughly recommend.

The room was amazing, atmosphere perfect, the staff amazing. You are literally surrounded by penguins, who waddle around. The town is charming, and you are just a short ride into Cape Town. If you want to stay in the middle of the city, this is not the place. But, if you want an oasis close to Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope, then stay here. And, did I mention penguins! We also saw whales right outside and an orka.

Nice small but comfortable room. Had parking problems because of no guest parking spaces and wifi did not reach our room. Otherwise, great service at the hotel and restaurant! Also it is right next to the Park!

.. you must not miss to stay at Boulders Beach Lodge!! There was a penguin Mum with her two little one just living under the stairs! The room was beautiful and the servie very friendly. We enjoyed our stay a lot! I have to confess, that I was the one who took the decision, as i am the penguin lover in the family.. ;-) The Penguin Colony is very close to this place and always worth a vist. Simon`s Town is a charming little city.

We stayed here on 25 Dec 2012. I booked a week before and was happy to get a night here at such late notice.

We arrived late and, although there is no late checkin as the lodge is not staffed at night, an arrangement was made for us to access our room after 8pm. Fortunately being summer, it was still quite light.

The room was sparse but comfortable, the mattress very good, and crisp white linen and down pillows. We were a little afraid of leaving the windows open this being Cape Town and not being sure of security -- it seemed that someone wanting to gain access to our room could do so if they really wanted to through an open window. It was a warm evening but we slept with the windows closed for this reason.

It was such an amazing experience to wake up at 5.30am and take a stroll along the boardwalk behind Boulder's Beach and see the penguins in the early morning with just a few dog walkers about. Some penguins had come right up to the hotel and were wandering up and down the stairs; in fact, some have their little "houses" behind a few bushes right in the hotel courtyard. A photographer's dream having the penguins waddle past just an arm's distance away. Such a special way to start the morning with the vast expanse of sea in front of us and our room just a stone's throw away.

Breakfast was included in our rate. I had the eggs benedict but asked for it without the salmon, so they added mushrooms. Very tasty. My cousin had the omelette, which she said was a little dry. The venue was ideal for taking in the sea views and we sat there for ages. It got a little hot as the sun got hotter. We sat there a tad too long because when we got down to the beach, it was jam packed this being 26 Dec and the national beach day in Cape Town. There wasn't a square inch of sand to lie on, but the atmosphere was great with kids playing ball in the sea and everyone having a lovely beach holiday.

I live in Cape Town but it was such a treat to be able to drive 40 minutes and feel like I was a lifetime away from my real life. Definitely a worthwhile place to spend a night away from home.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. We didn't have a sea view cos we booked late and got the last room.
