“Penguins Galore”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2014

An excellent location to view the penguins at Boulders. A family of penguins with two youngsters was nesting outside my daughters bedroom.
The rooms were very pleasant with a good bathroon with bath tub. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in each bedroom. Breakfast was very well cooked.

We had booked to stay at the lodge for 2 nights but only stayed for 1 as the room we had was very basic. The furniture was old and most of the wood skirting and doors was rotting at the bottom from years of mopping the floor. The toilet seat was so old the wood had split, this is not a hard thing to replace! It is a shame as it was very novel having penguins nesting outside the door. With a bit of investment this place could be a lot better. The breakfast was excellent and the restaurant staff were very nice. The views from the restaurant terrace were amazing. Other than the penguins there is not much to do in Simon's Town. We had an excellent meal at the Lighthouse Cafe and would highly recommend this, although they are not open every evening. We could have easily stayed elsewhere and done this as a day trip.

We are locals. We were very disappointed. Very poor value for money. The receptionist/manageress created a very poor impression throughout. This place should be avoided. The room was average reasonably clean but tatty with date furniture. The outside area need a very good clean up. The establishment should not be charging half of the listed price, A warning to foreigners: There are some good value for money places in the area, avoid this one

We stayed at Boulders Beach Lodge for one night, purely because the guesthouse we initially booked was overbooked and we had to find a different place to stay at. The thing is that this was during the mining convention and on such short notice Boulders was the only 'reasonably priced' place we found.

The 'balcony' was non-existent, it was a walkway that led to the room. The furniture was rather old and used and the walls inbetween rooms were quite thin. There is nothing great about this place but it is clean and we managed to get some sleep. However, for ZAR1500 I think it's way too expensive for what it is. It might be worth half of that.

Breakfast was fine.

Great evening!! Beautiful lodge and rooms!! The only suggestion I would make is that put in airconditioners in the rooms. Food was excellent as well!!! Drinks on the deck in the afternoon fulfilled all expectations of boulders beach lodge. We will definitely return, provided that there is a aircon.

Our visit coincided with the breeding season and penguins were incubating eggs on the terrace right outside our hotel room door, taking turns to go to sea to feed. Change over was fun to witness. The hotel room was clean and comfortable and the restaurant had a decent, if limited, menu. The restaurant terrace had a very nice sea view as well. It would have been nice to have had a lounge area to sit in from time to time. There was a small area for sitting but not very comfortable and it felt more like a waiting room. The selling point for the hotel has to be its proximity to the beach where the penguin colony is located. It's a lovely, sheltered beach, good for families and especially good for seeing the penguins close up. It was also a good base for exploring the cape peninsular as well as being not too far from the airport for our return flight. We had a pleasant, 2 night stay at Boulders Beach Lodge at the end of a 3 week tour of Cape Town and The Garden Route.

Some of my clothing and underwear went missing in the room, i dont know whether it was stolen or not. It was really disappointing! I was also not impressed by the restaurant. The waiters are slow, at times i had to wait upto 40min to be served, and at times the restuarant didnt have basic things like salt and straws.
