Staying here is a truly unique experience. I stayed here for a week - and cried when I left. the BEST thing about this place is your proximity to the penguins. They are everywhere - under your car, outside your door and waddling past you over breakfast. You actually feel like you are staying with them.
The lodge itself is quite small - and there is no air con, which was a big no no in the African heat. But all the windows open and it is so close to the sea that we coped in the heat.
The rooms are immaculate and stacked full of lovely freebies like South African alcoholic tipples, nuts and fresh coffee. The bathrooms are spacious and bright. And most of all there are plenty windows to look out of to see those black and white friends of yours. The breakfasts were plentiful but the service was VERY slow. It was worth the weight though, healthy options, meat options, etc.
The location is superb. Just a short drive from the centre of the town and handy got Cape of Good Hope, False Bay, Hout Bay, etc. Go to Black Marlin which is a ten minute drive south of the lodge. One of the best fish restaurants you'll find.
Also nip inot the wee toy museum in Simon's Town - it'll bring back dozens of childhood memories.
Go on... p p p pcik up a penguin.
Oh one other thing, penguins are amazingly noisy and will wake you up not long after daylight. But where else on earth can you awake to their cries?
