Owner description: The sheltered inlet of Boulders Beach is located in the Cape peninsula near Simon's Town. Here exists a protected colony of African penguins which can be viewed in their natural habitat via wooden walkways. There is also an excellent beach for swimming nearby.

“Penguins on a beach, and they're not native”
Reviewed 22 January 2012

If you have a car and you have 15 minutes then maybe this is worth a visit. It's not free though and the penguins were introduced to the beach, they aren't native. I'm not sure what all the hype is about but if you've never seen a penguin then now is your chance. Definitely don't spend a ton of money on a private tour service to go here, it's not worth it. No, you can't touch the penguins, you don't even walk on the beach. You walk on a viewing platform and look down on the penguins. 15 minutes in and out.

“Go if you LOVE Penguins”
Reviewed 21 January 2012

Boulder's beach is a great stop if you really love Penguins. If you don't, I would skip it. First try the Public beach where you do not pay for access - if it's not too busy, you'll likely see penguins swimming around. We only saw one, so we went ahead and paid admission for the Penguin "preserve", but they were less than exciting.

“Boulders beach is nice to see but overrated”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

Boulders beach was nice to see but not a must see..
We saw a bunch of penguins on other spots on the garden route as well so Boulders is good if you have no time and want to stay in Cape Town.
