Booked a 2 night weekend away at this venue - On arrival the staff were very helpful & friendly , our room was roomy with a lovely king sized, long length bed, tea/coffee & bar fridge in room. Nice bathroom with outdoor (and indoor) shower - all lovely and clean.
Dinner was amazing - the food is way above the 5 star rating the lodge has - every course was superb.
Breakfast was good with choice of fresh fruit, cereal etc plus a menu for hot food - plenty choice again.
We also had a picnic basket, unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't enjoy it outdoors as we had planned, but again the staff brought it too our room, laid t all complete with blankets etc - there was again an excellent choice of sandwiches meats salad etc .
Would definitely recommend this lodge as a romantic get away or just a relaxing place to chill. They have a couple of lounges with large comfy sofas and lots of books to read. Coffee/tea station available all day.
The road into the lodge is a bit on the bumpy side not helped by the rain but it's a short drive in and worth it.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be slightly different - ours was in a small courtyard which was handy for rece...

Its difficult to write a review for Budmarsh without sounding trite and over gushy....
1.Lovely, generous size rooms thoughtfully furnished. Some beautiful antique pieces, but still maintaining a very home from home feeling.
2.Gorgeous, tranquil, well kept gardens with beautiful trees. Be sure to have high tea( fine china, beautiful antique silverware, and a generous . selection of tasty tea treats. Not to mention an array of some 20 different teas) under a gigantic oak tree.
3. Comfortable, peaceful lounge with shlomfee couches to read a good book.
4. Reasonable speed wifi
But the real beauty of Budmarsh exudes from excellent service. The entire team ....right from the security gentleman at the entrance. Attentive but unobtrusive service with a "nothing is too much trouble " attitude. Reception staff, waiters, cleaning staff....all have the same gentle demeanour , always ready to assist with your every need.
And finally I have to mention the food!!!
Complimentary coffee and tea and tasty home made treats throughout the day.
An award winning wine selection.
Dinner is a brilliant symphony of tastes. A six course extravaganza!! The combinations of textures and tastes. Obviously prepared by one of South Africa's finest chefs. Chris your passion for food....the care you take with each dish...your presentation...the thought you put into each course...goes to make dinner a memorable event. Hats off to the entire kitchen staff.

One tiny criticism. On both visits to Budmarsh, each time in a different room, the dressing table arrangements are not satisfactory. In room 8, the "dressing table " is a beautiful antique desk. BUT the electricity plug is miles away, so its impossible to use the hair dryer at the table. The mirror is too high to do make up and hair. Inconvenient but not serious.
All in all....an EXCELLENT stay...and we'll be back! SOON!!

Its in the country, its full of fresh air and lush green trees and lawns, there's Ducks waddling about's and you're yawning, you feel sleepy most of the time, you're under a tree and the crazy world just disappears somewhere over the hill and down the road that you drove in on, picnic baskets and sips of wine, long conversations and catching up on a few pagers of undisturbed reading.

The weekend away at Budmarsh highlighted the Valentines weekend for 2014 and reminded me just how important it is to step out and relax, the food is exceptional, combinations of flavor masterfully cooked and presented, The portions are well thought out with a surprise for your pallet every time.

The staff are warm and friendly and don't stop till your tucked up in bed at night, its private and very secure but more importantly its reasonable on the pocket and great value for money, in fact Id say worth every cent and more.

Its a quick quiet getaway close to the city, Well close enough to just pop out and have a cup of tea and cake.

Id like to thank all the staff and organizers of Budmarsh for a lovely weekend and would like to say ....... Yes Ill be back.

Thank you

Room Tip: From my point of view all the rooms are equally pleasurable to both the eye and on the comfort side...

After staying in Cape Town for five days, and then five days on a game reserve, we chose to end our trip to South Africa on a quite note at Budmarsh. Since we were flying out of Johannesburg, and definitely did not want to stay in the city, we thought two nights here would help us decompress after the previous ten days in South Africa. Budmarsh was the perfect place for this. The grounds were very tranquil, and the accommodations nice and relaxing. The service was also excellent, with the staff going out of their way to help make your stay more enjoyable. The food was also excellent, with a very intricate dinner. I would personally recommend the tea and also lunch outside overlooking the grounds. All in all, a great place to relax for a day or two.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for room one, it is at the top of the stairs, with not other rooms next to it.
