“Nice weekend away”
Reviewed 13 February 2013

Upon arrival we were met with beautiful scenery and extremely friendly staff. We checked in and went for dinner - lovely food! Wanted to have a bath after dinner, but the hot water tap didn't want to switch off - maintenance was quickly sent, but unable to fix it. We were quite impressed with the efficiency/speed even though they weren't able to fix it that evening (it was quite late), but to make matters slightly worse the one shower didn't work either - not a good thing in a superior suite. Breakfast was very good and then we lazed by the pool while they tried to sort out the bath. We checked with reception about the progress and they decided to move us to another room. This time the shower and bath worked!
Dinner was al fresco that evening - quite nice, although the flies were a bit crazy and the food a little cold.
All in all the rooms are nice and spacious, food is good, staff are super friendly and helpful and the scenery beautiful. Expected a little more because of the price, but still a nice, relaxing weekend.

Have visited this place often to run workshops. The standard has been maintained consistently. The river chalets are great. Food is excellent with wide variety and choice. I can recommend this place for a relaxing river weekend or aas a breakaway for companies.

Valley Lodge is a stunning venue for any occasion, wedding, teambuilding, over night workshop and/or conferences. The food is great, the ambiance is great and the spa don’t even get me started on that it was just amazing. Chilling under the trees by the little river flowing through the place or relaxing by the pool, this place just oozes class. Their conference room can change from a workshop set up to a killer party venue I just loved it. It was worth the long drive from Joburg.

We stayed in a river-view room, which was nice - no complaints there. Friday evening meal only a buffet option, which is very overpriced at R270 per head. Serving areas are merely covered with mosaic tile sheets (not even glued down and falling to pieces). No biscuits served with cheese and no utensils to cut cheese with. Cutlery were taken away after each course but replaced with inappropriate new ones.
The spa was not very well organised at all. We made bookings for 09:00 in the morning (first bookings for the day) but ended up waiting for almost half an hour because staff arrived late. Treatments were shorter than the allocated times and not WOW.
Settling the bill proved to be problematic too. No record of the deposit was available on records and the spa and reception areas were not clear whether or not the spa treatments were included on the bill or not. Unfortunately a number of other clients experienced the same problem as we left. Four stars? Mmm, maybe overrated.

we did not stay at the hotel overnight. instead, we made a booking for dinner on a quiet saturday night. the only option that night was a buffet. unfortunately, it was the most overpriced buffet i have ever had. if you charge your guests R270 per person, it should be an excellent meal. this was not -- the far superior buffet at mount grace hotel and spa is only R220 per person, e.g.

apart from the subpar food, the decor in the dining room was very stale and looks like it hasn't been updated since the hotel opened (presumably decades ago). sorry for the negative review, but I feel like we were ripped off to pay so much money for an unpleasant meal in less than desirable surroundings.

We stayed at Valley Lodge for two nights over the festive period. Its a short drive out of Johannesburg but the perfect escape from the hustle of city life. The rooms are beautifully appointed and luxurious. The surrounding gardens and tranquil river provide a sense of serenity and wellbeing. I was very impressed with the service received from all the staff members I encountered. We travelled with my sister and her toddlers and the staff went beyond the call of duty to ensure we were happy and the kids comfortable. Well done and highly recommended :)

We have just returned from a weekend away at this really lovely country lodge. The food was so delicious, varied and fresh. The tables were beautifully set (both inside and outside on the patio) and a pianist played ballads in the restuarant in the evening! Our room (#70) was facing the river, nicely decorated with a small seating area on its own private patio overlooking the river and manicured gardens. The room needed a few minor fixes but didnt detract from our enjoyment. All the staff were well trained and very friendly. The big pool area is spacious and well maintained and bar service was freely available while lazing on one of the many loungers. We had a hot stone massage from their state of the art spa facility where we enjoyed our swim in the hot salted pool and jacuzzi. Various refreshments, cakes, scones and cream were available after your treatments.

We would love to return some day as we had a stunning and relaxing weekend away.
