We arrived in Johannesburg at 3.30pm so only had a few hours to see some of the city as we were flying out the next morning. We had arranged pick from our hotel prior to leaving Australia. Our guide was perfectly on time to pick us up. He introduced himself but after repeating his name about 6 times, the 4 of us had no idea how to pronounce it! His name was partially Zulu and we don't speak Zulu in Australia so we were clueless. He explained we weren't the first people to have trouble with his name and that others had simply called him Mr Thumbs Up....so we went with Mr Thumbs Up as well.
His knowledge was excellent and he had a great sense of humour. We had given the tour company an idea of some of the places we wanted to see and that's exactly how it happened. There were many highlights along the way and the whole tour was informative and gave us a great insight albeit brief into what Johannesburg is all about.
The biggest highlight was easily going to a family home in Soweto after dark. We felt totally safe with Mr Thumbs Up but more importantly it was a very humbling experience. We would highly recommend Lords Travel and Tours. They and Mr Thumbs Up were fantastic.
