Because the staff is so nice here, you feel bad complaining about the property. This is a beautiful location, right inside the park and extremely convenient to the start of the gorilla tours. We got very lucky and our hike was short – about an hour – and I could hear the gorillas in the forest the night before our hike. There is quite a bit of variance in the tents and bandas offered but all will have great views of the forest. There was only 2 of us staying here so I am not sure why the staff chose to give us the oldest tent on the property but avoid the Mongoose tent, it is the oldest and shows it (quite moldy). The shower and toilet in the tent were a nice touch, to have our own bathroom and avoid the shared facilities. The newer tents and Bandas – lower down on the hillside - are better choices and in better condition (we explored since no one else was staying at the property). The food and lunch boxes were pretty bad – we had the same meal two nights in a row, but that may have been based on the number of guests.

Room Tip: Get a room lower down the hillside - farther away from the dining room.

Exactly what it says on the tin. Rough and ready, great value, perfectly located for gorilla tracking, simple but yummy food. Most importantly it's run by the local community and they do a damn fine job of it!
If you go in May you get an excellent discount on your gorilla tracking pass. That said, it's so wonderful I would have paid double!

This is very basic accomodation but the staff were friendly and welcoming. The showers, although only a dribble of water came out, the temperature was good unlike so many other places. We didn't sleep well in this accommodation however. There were animals on the roof a lot during the nights - very noisy and a bit disconcerting as we were sure they were often in the room!

Our stay in Buhoma was magical. They have a full range of accommodation options from $10 US camping to dorms to $60 US safari tents. Our safari tent was huge with a big ensuite half-outdoor bathroom in behind. It had a large porch and we chose the tent furthest down the path. You are furthest downhill from the restaurant but you look out at the forest with no one in front of you and can see monkeys passing in the trees. We'd heard sometimes gorillas walk by! The onsite restaurant has set menus with good, reasonably priced food considering the lack of options around the area. They will pack a lunch for you for your gorilla trek and were really accommodating about my food allergies. You are close to the meeting point for gorilla treks or the park office for other hikes. The staff were very friendly. It's an isolated area, so to save some money, we recommend bringing as much water and other drinks as you can.

Room Tip: Choose the furthest tent downhill for an open view of the jungle. We saw so many monkeys!

There's a sort of rustic charm about this place. It's not flash but its got everything you need and very comfy. Beds were comfortable and the staff are all freindly and helpful, especially Ed. Lovely location with a great view from the restaurant and the gorillas have been known to actually come fir a visit. Good for the price.

I stayed in one of the bandas recently. The place is a bit old and rundown but about the cheapest accommodations in Buhoma. It is a stunning location and my friend heard the gorillas from his room so you know you are close when that happens. The food was not very appetizing, for a vegetarian, so I don't know about non-veg options. The packed lunch that we took on the gorilla trek was pretty bad too. If you don't care about old, but do want cheap, it is good for that.

I reserved a self-contained room (over six months in advance) and got a confirmation right away.
Then, I arrived the camp to find that there was a mix-up and no self-contained room was available. The manager told me he would give me a room with shared facilities instead. I didn't want that so I declined the offer.

I booked through an agent, so they got a self contained room at another lodge pretty quickly.
Though an open dining/lounge area overlooking the forest was nice, the whole setup seemed to be a bit too rough for me, so I thought it was better to have stayed somewhere else.
