“Community run tourist walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

We stayed in Buhoma for a few days after seeing the gorillas. During this time the people at local Bwindi National Park office (not Kabiza Wilderness Safaris) organised a woman from the local community to show us around Buhoma and explain how life operated. The children at the local orphanage sang and danced for us, we looked at the local school and hospital, visited the local medicine man and saw the banana beer brewery and gin distillery. It involved an few hours of walking but was very educational.

“Great way to learn about the locals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

We visited the Batwa Pygmy tribe, local hospital, school, and learned a great deal about the area. Watching them crush bananas with their feet to get juice, then make wine and gin was mind boggling. Everything they do is very labor intensive. The local people, especially the children were amazing. To see how people live in this area is not something many would expect. Farming is difficult on the mountainsides. Water is from a village bore hole, laundry is at the river or in a tub at home. Amazing people! Our guide did a great job explaining things.
