“not too bad”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

an okay place to stay at dharamkot (ahead of mcleodgunj) ...getting to the place in the summer season is a pain (in fact going to any 'famous' hill station like mcleodgunj in peak summer is a bad idea as its overcrowded and there are heavy traffic jams)
the hotel is decent and the value for money is not bad.... they seemed understaffed as the service was really slow
the food was ok
there is parking space which in this area is a boon

Room Tip: if you go in peak summer, the place is likely to be noisy, whichever room you take!

We in a group of seven adults stayed in the hotel for three days from 24th-27th May, 2014. First of all it is a quiet place, surrounded by nature, no traffic chaos near the hotel, but the approach road is a bit difficult. The staff is very active and fast to serve all the rooms. Dr. Thakur, the Manager looking after the family property is very active, always in tows, very fast to look to every one's need. We had our breakfast included and it was tasty and filling. The lunch and dinner we ordered were like home cooked and tasty. Like to visit again during Nov-dec.

The only 2 good things about this property is location and the size.the management has to spend some money on improving the approach road for cars. They badly need a Gardner as the lawns are very badly kept . The staff is good but only 2 people to serve 30 rooms . very poor maintenance . over priced.

Hotel Dev cottage at Dharamkot is really a nice place to stay. We were there from 3 june to 6 june 2014. I had read reviews about lots of people before going to Mcleodganj that everyone had stay over there for 1 or 2 days. so we also plan to stay over there for 3 days as we had to self drive from delhi to reach over there. But after reaching and staying for two days, we planned to stay more days and on our request Mr. Ashok managed to make one more day stay over there. Mr. Ashok is very nice and gentle person who always ready to support his guest all the ways. There is a big hurdle to reach at Dev Cottages for those who self drive and does not have any experience on the curve hills. It is better to hire vehicle or reach by other means of travel.

It was a good stay in Dev cottage. We went there on 13th June, 2014 and stayed there till 15th June, 2014. Food was also nice there except Chinese. Staff was good and friendly. We reached there before check in time I.e. 12 pm but Mr. Ashok Kumar, who is manager there, accommodated us. Our departure from Mcleodganj was at 7 pm but due to peak season we had to leave early I.e. at check out time and faced problem like searching for a hotel for 6 hours. Overall trip was good and stay was nice.

We visited during May mid and had booked a cottage here. The place is very serene but the roads to reach Dharamkot are awful infact for dharamshala mcleod ganj are awful. If you have a cab which is not fron himachal then the driver would crib a lot.
Surprisingly at high cost the hotwl does not have a generator, inverter or even large rechargeable battries. We reached in evening and it was raining so power was off.We were in dark for 2 hours jailed inside.
The service is poor.you have to order food 1 hr in advance. This is with low occupancy. If 4-5 cottages are occupied then the food takes 1.5 hrs and staff rejects simple order like soups.
Dr Kumar is a good guy and ready to help you.Mind you this is an overall review of my experience not a personal.

Dev cottages is located 2 kms away from the hustle and noise from McLeodganj. The cottage faces the amazing snow capped mountains which is a treat as all the rooms face it. It is surrounded by the deodar trees which gives it a very cooling effect.
The food and service is good here. The rooms are quite huge and can accomodate atleast 4 people on asking extra beds.
Since we went during the off season didnt find it to be expensive.
This is a good place to start for the Triund trek and the staff at Dev cottage are more than ready to help you plan the trek.
