We spent an unscheduled night at the hotel having left the Chonor House due to the dreadful night's sleep we had had due to noise. Sidhu the manager is a delight, a true gentleman and could not be more helpful. This hotel could be absolutely amazing, as the location and views are stunning, and it is incredibly peaceful, but it does need a good clean, and staff who can run it in Sidhu's absence. My husband was unfortunately not at all well that day, so literally spent all the time there in bed, and Sidhu did everything he could to make sure we were ok, but the problems start when he goes home. The rest of the staff struggle to understand English so I had major problems in making myself understood and ended up speaking to Sidhu at home on several occassions.

White Haven Estate is more like a guest house than a hotel.
With only 8 rooms and a small staff, it is a curious little place.
It is well out of town, so you can't just wander into town for a look around.
After checking in around mid afternoon, we had a knock at the door to ask what we wanted for dinner, because they had to go to the markets to buy the ingredients.
In late February, it was also cold. The room had very little in the way of heating, and no electric blankets on the single beds.
Bay windows opened out on to a fantastic view of the Himalayas which on the last day with fresh snow on the peaks, made all the other limitations worth it!

Room Tip: If you do stay here, get a room overlooking the valley and the Himalayas.

Recently (June 2 to 5th) we had been in Dharamshala and booked this hotel through their delhi office for three days with 50% advance payment. On reaching Dharamshala ( Temperature of around 34 -35 that day) we found that the hotel does not have air conditioner or fan. Pedastal Fan, they provide on request .We thought not checking into this hotel and asked for the refund. The Manager told us he shall retain nearly 50% of the booking amount, to which we thought that it was a better idea of staying back for one day and take the balance refunded the next day.

Our idea of staying back did not prove good, food was pathetic, Service was horrendous, no power, no fan (They do not put on the generator when there is no power) , uncourteous manager and when checking out we asked for settlement and refund of the balance amount, we were ill treated and never given a refund.

We go for holidays atleast 2-3 times an year. This was my most unsatisfactory stay in any hotel till today.

We stayed at white haven for 4 days last year and it was a wonderful experience for us...the food was as tasty as home made good and the staff was extremely cordial and helpful....but the best part of this estate was the breath taking view of the dhauladhar range.....its just mesmerzing....u will want to stay there for days...
So if u are looking for a holiday in a quiet place away from the town hustle bustle then this is the perfect place...even the approach to this estate is thru a thick forest....although its little too deep so finding it at night is a bit difficult...but overall it was a very pleasant stay....would love to go back again...

I stayed at White Haven two years ago and this week. It's a wonderful spot, amazing views and a lovely house and gardens. Views are superb. However we did feel a bit like we were in the way of the staff who seem to be running the place for their convenience. Even trying to get all the residents to have exactly the same foods and being very frugal about starting a real fire on cold nights (I asked if there was a fire ration because they kept saying "only one hour of fire"). Unfortunately the enthusiastic manager Mr Sidhu seems to have lost heart and is hardly every there; because he was a great font of information and lovely hand drawn maps. The place could be brilliant with a few small tweaks; a bit more cleaning, much better food (even some tea from its own tea estate would be cute) and staff who don't seem like you are getting in the way. But staying all that nothing can fault the quiet gardens and cute views.
