Twin-bedded room in new block. Only problem was lack of water pressure on the shower. Room was clean with AC. Excellent central location. Good food on the uncovered rooftop or on the floor below. Reasonable price. Friendly and helpful staff. Kiron and Vijay are excellent guides. Pick-up from Hospet arranged. Overall, a good place to chill out.

The rooms are basic but fully functional and clean. The location is excellent as are the staff. They are friendly personable and will do all they can to improve your stay. Wifi is terrible in the whole town so don't expect too much on that front.

It's a great place to stay in Hampi. The staff is very helpful, rooms are clean and tidy, price are reasonable and the restaurant (which has a very pleasant rooftop) serves tasty food! Definitely recommended!

We arrived in Hampi in tourist season, without a reservation, so we ended up having to switch rooms back and forth between Rocky's and the Gopi Guesthouse across the street. Overall, I found both accommodations to meet our needs, but I thought I might as well give details, since we were in and out of several rooms over the course of a week. We traveled as a couple with a one-year-old son.

Rooms
We chose non-AC rooms and this worked out OK. The downstairs rooms are a little cooler than upstairs (heat rises) but all had windows that could be opened. The accommodations were basic: a bed, a nightstand, and some hooks on the wall. In all rooms, the bathrooms were basic, India-style, with a shower that drains into the floor next to a toilet and sink. Gopi Guesthouse has two buildings. The new building is right across the street from Rocky's. The older building is around the corner, still in view of the others. The NEW Gopi Guesthouse had lots of built-in shelving, which was useful for keeping things out of reach of a toddler. For this alone, I'll give a slight nod to Gopi for rooms, but really, they are quite comparable.

Prices
As elsewhere in India, room prices are what you can negotiate. We found the prices better at Gopi (600-800 rupees per night) vs.1500 at Rocky's. But Rocky knew we were in a tight spot (not many other open rooms in the area) and so he charged what he could.

Services
Rocky was awesome! He helped us sort out some problematic train reservations. He arrange to have items delivered to our door when our son was asleep and I couldn't leave. They wash laundry on-site. Rocky's money exchange rate was the best we found in Hampi. Many lovely services, and it's a breeze to do transactions with him. But--he charges for it. Prices, as elsewhere, are probably negotiable. (One note: when we were paying our final bill, there was a mathematical error on the bill, to the tune of an almost 5000 rupee overcharge. When I noticed it a few minutes later, Rocky was very apologetic and immediately refunded us the money. I want very much to believe that this was an honest mistake, but: always double-check your receipts. Sometimes people rip you off. Sometimes innocent mistakes are made. Just keep your eyes open.) At Gopi Guesthouse, Veenu was also extremely personable and happy to help. I admit that we did not try out the other travel services at Gopi. Gopi has morning yoga on the roof of the original building.

Restaurants
Both the Gopi (new bldg) and Rocky's have rooftop restaurants. Gopi's is a bit bigger, with very friendly service, and a wider menu. Veenu, who I believe is the proprietor of Gopi, mainly worked from the restaurant and was always very kind to us and our son. The view is lovely from both, but Gopi has a bit more ambiance. Rocky's has lassis that are a little tarter, Gopi has more flavors. (And yes, we thoroughly researched this point!) Family tip: at Rocky's, get a room on the upper floor. Then you can sit right outside your room and dine while your kid(s) sleep in the room.

Overall, if I were to book my visit again, I think I'd give the edge to Gopi Guesthouse (new building), but I can honestly say that both were pleasant experiences. Veenu and Rocky were both very kind and helpful to us.

Room Tip: Upper rooms are a bit warmer but a little quieter.

Gopi Guest House is a great place to stay. The food is delicious with great service. The hotel has been amazing. They have treated me like I am part of their family. I went on a tour around to see the temples and it was a great value. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area. I would recommend booking a tour with them. You can learn a lot more about Hampi with a guide than going alone. I have really enjoyed my time in Hampi and at the guest house.

Hampi is being cleared up, and demolition of homes have happened, the bazaar is being restored to its original state, sadly for the local residents who have to move out and are only given a small piece of land as compensation. Gopi is very central, very comfortable and extremely friendly. The staff are kind and helpful especially VEERU, thank you. Room a little dark, in the new block, but we did ask for a quiet room and it was. Food in the roof restaurant in our opinion was excellent and breakfast, which was included in our rate kept us going for the day. Glad we were this side of the river. Recommended.

Our family of 4 stayed at Gopi Guest house for 3 nights over Christmas. Its in a great location, but Hampi town could be relocated soon by UNESCO so go soon as the little township amongst temples is very interesting with quaint market stalls and fantastic cafes. Helpful, polite and friendly staff. You and your luggage may be collected from carpark. Fabulous breakfast included, choose Indian or continental with yummy home made muesli and yogurt, eggs, toast and tea/coffee. Their cafe has lovely views from rooftop with all veg food with so much choice from Mexican, Japanese, Nepalese, Italian, etc. Indian food is delicious and Almond Lassi. Wifi free at cafe. Rooms are basic as you would expect for about $10-$12 per night B&B, clean with firm comfortable beds, fan, secured with padlock and have bathroom with hot water. Perfect for crashing in at night and afternoon naps as the surroundings of this town are so incredible you are out of the room visiting sites and eating. Hampi and Gopi worth a visit of at least 2 nights, we could have stayed longer to see more of the sites, perhaps 4 nights would be perfect. Bottled water available on streets or at cafes at 30r for 2lt.

Room Tip: No need for AC in December
