Reviewed 24 March 2014 via mobile

Staying here was great, rocky and his family were very helpful and sorted a bunch of tickets for us. The room was immaculate and had a mosquito net. Lovely rooftop restaurant except maybe the slightly harassing TUC TUC driver that came to find us a couple of times( and charges a lot) it was really good to be collected from bus for free though.

We stayed at Rocky for four nights during our visit to Hampi. We had an AC Room and it was clean and spacious with comfy beds and all the basics one needs. The Rooftop Restaurant was a nice space to chill and enjoy the views while having breakfast and dinner.Food was very tasty.Rocky is a friendly, helpful person, always stopping for a chat.He also helped us book a train for our further travels. His extra services include Travel bookings and Money Exchange. Will stay here again if ever visiting Hampi.

We spent four nights at Rocky's and had a great time. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. The rooftop restaurant is a lovely place to admire the view while enjoying a tasty meal. Rocky takes the time to get to know his guests and will help book onward travel arrangements. I had always wanted to visit Hampi and was not disappointed.

We only stayed a night, due to previous plans, but wished we had stayed longer. The hotel is located in the heart of bazaar. The room was simple but comfortable and with breakfast included it was well worth the price.
Rocky is great host and is very knowledgable with travel bookings and other arrangements. This is helped by the fact that his English is excellent and manner very friendly. Go there!

I stayed here in February 2014 and loved it. I can echo everybody else's praise for Rocky. He is on the ball and makes staying in Hampi enjoyable and effortless.

The bed in the 1st floor room is the most comfortable in India so opt for it if you can.

We arrived in Hampi in tourist season, without a reservation, so we ended up having to switch rooms back and forth between Rocky's and the Gopi Guesthouse across the street. Overall, I found both accommodations to meet our needs, but I thought I might as well give details, since we were in and out of several rooms over the course of a week. We traveled as a couple with a one-year-old son.

Rooms
We chose non-AC rooms and this worked out OK. The downstairs rooms are a little cooler than upstairs (heat rises) but all had windows that could be opened. The accommodations were basic: a bed, a nightstand, and some hooks on the wall. In all rooms, the bathrooms were basic, India-style, with a shower that drains into the floor next to a toilet and sink. Gopi Guesthouse has two buildings. The new building is right across the street from Rocky's. The older building is around the corner, still in view of the others. The NEW Gopi Guesthouse had lots of built-in shelving, which was useful for keeping things out of reach of a toddler. For this alone, I'll give a slight nod to Gopi for rooms, but really, they are quite comparable.

Prices
As elsewhere in India, room prices are what you can negotiate. We found the prices better at Gopi (600-800 rupees per night) vs.1500 at Rocky's. But Rocky knew we were in a tight spot (not many other open rooms in the area) and so he charged what he could.

Services
Rocky was awesome! He helped us sort out some problematic train reservations. He arrange to have items delivered to our door when our son was asleep and I couldn't leave. They wash laundry on-site. Rocky's money exchange rate was the best we found in Hampi. Many lovely services, and it's a breeze to do transactions with him. But--he charges for it. Prices, as elsewhere, are probably negotiable. (One note: when we were paying our final bill, there was a mathematical error on the bill, to the tune of an almost 5000 rupee overcharge. When I noticed it a few minutes later, Rocky was very apologetic and immediately refunded us the money. I want very much to believe that this was an honest mistake, but: always double-check your receipts. Sometimes people rip you off. Sometimes innocent mistakes are made. Just keep your eyes open.) At Gopi Guesthouse, Veenu was also extremely personable and happy to help. I admit that we did not try out the other travel services at Gopi. Gopi has morning yoga on the roof of the original building.

Restaurants
Both the Gopi (new bldg) and Rocky's have rooftop restaurants. Gopi's is a bit bigger, with very friendly service, and a wider menu. Veenu, who I believe is the proprietor of Gopi, mainly worked from the restaurant and was always very kind to us and our son. The view is lovely from both, but Gopi has a bit more ambiance. Rocky's has lassis that are a little tarter, Gopi has more flavors. (And yes, we thoroughly researched this point!) Family tip: at Rocky's, get a room on the upper floor. Then you can sit right outside your room and dine while your kid(s) sleep in the room.

Overall, if I were to book my visit again, I think I'd give the edge to Gopi Guesthouse (new building), but I can honestly say that both were pleasant experiences. Veenu and Rocky were both very kind and helpful to us.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms will be a little quieter but also hotter. Family tip: at Rocky's, get a room on...
