“Perfect hosting, delicious food and good place”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

I visited Hampi in August 2013 with friends. The room was spotless and the air conditioning, very refreshing. This guesthouse put a smile on me and my friends face :). The owner Kishor is absolutely helpful and will go out of his way to ensure you are comfortable and taken care of.

And the thing you'll miss after leaving this place is the food @ Chill out (opposite to guest house).. mmmmm....its so delicious. Keep it up guys.

Pros:
1) Location: just a few yards from the main temple
2) Cleanliness
3) free Wifi available at room
4) The Host - Kishore
5) The Most important: food @ Chill out ...ultimate food

Cons:
1) Its hard to remember any cons for this place.

We’d read the good reviews on trip advisor and were not disappointed! There are two things that make this place so great – 1) The location and 2) Kish, the host.

We arrived at Hospet train station in the evening and Kish had arranged a rickshaw to pick us up. Sure enough, our driver was there with our name on a piece of paper and we didn’t have the hassle a few other travelers had of fighting through the hordes of drivers wanting their business. And more than that, we actually paid less than some other travellers we met.

The room was great, very clean, spacious and the AC worked a treat. The only minor criticism is that the shower wasn’t very powerful.

It’s not cheap compared to other guesthouses we’ve stayed in, but there was free wifi, and you really can’t beat the location in the center of Hampi Bazaar.

Kish was there to greet us when we arrived, and once we’d settled in he organized everything for us! He arranged a rickshaw driver for the entire next day (which we highly recommend – for Rs1,000 we were taken to all the main temples and ruins and it saved us getting lost on scooters and wondering what the hell we were looking at), he booked our onward travel to Kochi, he even booked our flights from Kochi to Delhi and train onto Agra!

On our last day, we were able to leave our bags at the guesthouse and there is a shower and bathroom on the roof we used in the evening before heading back to the train station. Now the shower isn’t the best we’ll admit, but still, it was somewhere to freshen up before our mammoth 48 hours of non-stop travel.

Opposite Thilak is a bar called Chill Out which serves great food and the cheapest curry we’ve found so far in India. Just 80p a dish!

We’d recommend spending a day north of the river from Hampi Bazaar (short Rs10 boat shuttle). We hired scooters for a day and drove to the lake/reservoir to swim, then had a great drive exploring the local area and seeing the local villages, and finally walking up to Monkey Temple for a great view of Hampi and its surroundings.

All in all we loved Hampi and we loved Thilak - thanks Kish for everything!

Just to start by saying, this is a wonderful place to stay. Great location, clean rooms. Kish the owner is an amazing person and helped us out in everyway possible - massive thank you!!.we also befriended a great tuck tuck driver called Prince who has loads of knowledge about the area. The restaurant they also run called the chill out has a nice atmosphere and superb food and service.Overall a great place to stay with very helpful staff. Hampi itself is a great place to visit and the ruins are amazing.

Located in the tiny village of Hampi close to the Virupaksha temple, this clean and tidy accomodation is absolutely recommendable!

Kishor, the owner, arranged my Airport pick-up well ahead of time, a conditio-sine-qua-non for me to decide to come to Hampi, as I had very little time for my trip and this great place is quite out of the way. The driver was on time, he was a little inexperienced and maps are not en-vogue in rural India, as it seems, as this was a repeated observation during my Karnataka trip.

The room was tidy, clean, simple, but appealingly furnished. There was a ceiling fan as well as a well functoning air condition. Towels and bed sheets were provided, hot water was available at any time of the day. There was no bug-problem in my room. Although considered unneccessary, Kishor helped hanging up my treated mosquitonet - retrospectively was this the only place on my entire trip, where this was possible.

W-Lan was on-and-off, supposedly a village-wide problem, power-cuts are not unusal in this part of the world and did not exceed the average number of occurence.

What requires a littel getting-used-to is the number of animals running around in the village's streets at night. Due to the construction of houses in Hampi, they can be heard really well within the house too - so in a future stay I'd try to get rooms to the back of the building, not towards the street.

Kishor was available, when needed, always friendly and helpful. His rates on travel-cheque and cash change was the best in the village. Not quite as good as bank rates in Mangalore and Kannur - then again, the banks in Hampi and Kamalapuram did not offer currency exchange, so there was no other option, than consulting a private agency. He also organized my onward trip at a rate I was not able to get at a later point in time (8 IR/km). For the rest of the time he was very unobstrusive.

As a Rickshawdriver I strongly recommend Lingappa - who has the same pleasantly quiet and non-pushy nature.

The biggest surprise in the end was, that due to the fact, that it was clearly off-season still, Kishor reduced the room price by > 25% on check-out, although I had agreed to the suggested price months ago.And this is clearly a once-in-a-blue-moon experience on an India trip!

I do plan going to Hampi some time in the not to distant future and I will stay at this homestay again!

First of all, Hampi is a magical place so it's a pleasure just being there. The place is very clean and is really focussed on what Western tourists want. The restaurant on the other side of the street belongs to the same owners and is excellent as well. All in all a great overall package!

We arrived Hospet in the morning by sleeperbus and Hampi was a relief after the hustle in Bangalore. We stayed for five nights and had no problems. Wifi and clean rooms just a few yards from the main temple. Run by a friendly family and the service is top notch!

We stay here for a week. The guest house is clean, free wifi in room, good position, hot water, towel and sheets included. The place offer laundry service. Thilak is a really nice person, reliable. Besides it is possible to book the place on the train or on the bus for any destination. Price is very good. Absolutely recommended! If we come back in Hampi, we will return here surely!!
