I came to Venu Guesthouse because the place I had chosen from LP, opposite was fully booked. That was a happy coincidence because Venu Guesthouse proved to be a very pleasant choice. At first my room looked very simple, but then I realized the old ceiling construction with whitewashed roundwoods, the many niches in the wall where I could easily store my things, vernacular architecture with tradition. My attached bathroom was basic but I had hot water. First I was sceptical because there was no AC, but the climate in Hampi with cool evenings is such that I did not miss it, would have switched it off if it had been there. But, they have free WiFi in the room as well as on the pleasant rooftop restaurant, where I spent my evenings doing my bookings and writing my emails. The place seems to attract nice travellers, there were so many people I had a chat with and shared experiences. Food is good there and breakfast and dinner with a view on the river and the rocks was all I could ask for. They even had Indian films up there with a beamer from a laptop, reacting to what guests wanted to see.
All this said the best of the place is the family you really feel to be part of,
warm, friendly, helpful, but never intruding. The sister of the landlady runs a bicycle shop where I hired a bike for the whole time. It is 75Rp. a day. I stayed there four days, wished I had more time to spend. As no prices are given in Tripadvisor - my room was 1500Rp, so good value that I rather had given the full 5 points.
