The resort is very clean and peaceful. The rooms are nice with marble everywhere, even if in the complex the result is quite artificial and old. The outdoor pool is what you need for a healthy pause of relax. The breakfast was good but very limited. The staff wasn't particulary friendly. Room rates quite high compared to service.

You arrive at Orchha and snake your way down the road until you hit the bridge to the river, where your driver will take a sharp right. This means that you are on the right path to the Orchha Resort. The thing that makes the hotel totally worthwhile is the fact that you have the Royal Chhatris (Cenotaphs) towering over you as you enter and exit the hotel. The hotel even has a few tents that give you a 24 hour view of the cenotaphs.

I opted for the room. it was cold when I went there and the controlled temperature of an air-conditioner helped me. The rooms are well decorated, cozy, well equipped with modern amenities and service from the staff is impeccable.

The restaurant is a little dull with heavy furniture, but the friendly staff more than make up for it. Be warned that the hotel is all vegetarian. They do not serve meat in the hotel.

Overall I love Orchha and the Orchha Resort and if I had a choice I would have stayed longer there.

Room Tip: In the colder season, ask for a room that faces the morning sun. Your room will be warm when you com...

Orchha is unusual for a Western visitor in India, in that there are many Indian visitors , visiting this amazingly beautiful, relatively unspoilt village of temples and forts. The hotel is less desperate to please than others, which in itself is a welcome relief, and you take the staff as you find them, which is sometimes delightful, sometimes busy, but always smiling. The rooms are not over -elaborate, quite basic but clean and comfortable, and when you compare your circumstances with others in the rest of this enchanting small village , you realise they are palatial in comparison. The manager is a very interesting fellow, with a theory for everything, and advice for any circumstance. Words of wisdom imparted to us on how to have a balanced digestion have stayed with me.... and they work! Simple Indian philosophy freely given. The food in the restaurant was the best we found in Orchha, and we tried it all! This is one of the few independent hotels and is well worth supporting. There are also luxury tents which we thought might be interesting.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a non-smoking room, and a temple view.

We spent a night at the Orchha Resort after a business trip because it is just next to the chhatris on the Betwa river. You just step out of the hotel and visit the beautiful chhatris, then you cross the river for a walk in the forest.
The hotel was full of tourists, but the management and the kitchen made sure we had a quiet place to rest and to eat. The rooms are nice and we decided on the one next to the pool - nobody was passing at night, and the pool area was quiet as well.
We went out to see the Light and Sound Show at the Raj Mahal and visited some smaller restaurants at night and did a palace tour in the morning (get a guide there, they are good)

Room Tip: near to the pool is far away from the reception (less noise from other people at night)

Orchha is a pretty little place which is gradually being discovered by tourists from all over the world. We stayed at the Orchha Resort, which is by the river at the end of the town. The room we were shown was beautiful, but unfortunately - against what we had stipulated (not the hotel's fault) - a smoker's room. We were immediately offered a pool-facing room of good size with nice furniture and a good bathroom with complementary toiletries. We slept well as the twin beds were comfy and the room was quiet. We had no problems with the staff - quite the opposite, from reception to restaurant, all were friendly and helpful. We just had breakfast in the restaurant - on the first day a la carte, on the second a really good buffet. The restaurant is very attractively decorated, by the way. The pool was a real plus, as we had very high temperatures, and there was always somewhere to sit in the shade. The gardens were lovely and well-tended. If we ever returned to Orchha, we would definitely stay here, especially as the hotel offers good value for money.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on my trip around India.

I recommend getting the deluxe room and including breakfast in your rate. My room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. The pool area is a nice place to relax but during my stay there were a lot of people at the hotel (bus tour of european tourists) so at times it was noisy. .

In regards to location Orchha is just really a couple of streets with restaurants and is really safe to walk around at night as their aren't too much transport after 10pm.

One of the other reviewers explained the staff perfectly - "The staff were not the friendliest or most efficient that we came across in India but there was nothing particularly wrong with the service" - I totally agree.

Perhaps I'm too harsh, but given that this was the most expensive of the hotels we stayed in India (by far!) it by no means lived up to expections.

For a start the room (a luxury tent, technically) was no cleaner than anywhere else and the room was not made up during our 2 night stay. Amenities were good with TV, fridge, relatively inefficient AC but a perfecty adequate fan, then some portaloo-type bathroom installations. The room would have probably been better if the shower didn't overflow every time and flood the 'bathroom area'. Looking at the curtains that separate the 'bedroom area' it certainly wasn't the first time this problem arose and as we were only staying 2 nights we didn't pursue it.
Breakfast was fine - as expected, a buffet affair, full of tour groups, nothing special.
Maybe it's the tour group atmosphere that sucks the life and the character out of this place? And doubles the price of beer??

Redeeming features: the beautiful cenotaphs just behind the hotel that were visible throughout the hotel complex. Swimming & relaxing at the pool.

I suspect there are better value options in beautiful Orchha, closer to the main attractions, but it's a small, peaceful village and this place is OK.
