“Mediocre food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2014

We came here for dinner one evening while in Orchha. We found the food to be rather bland and expensive. The property is pretty and has character, but the food .. well... you'll find better in Orchha.

Very pleasant and quiet place to spend time with your family/friends. The property has been constructed to give old dharamshala kind of look with all the modern amenities. There is nice view of Betwa river flowing on the hotel backside from the room verandah itself. You can go to the river but it's not clean.
You can also go to the terrace to have nice view of river flowing by the orccha village. Food served is good and hotel staff is very polite.
Overall great place to spend 2-3 days with family in nature.

Rooms not cleaned for ages, stained bedsheets and pillowcases recycled from neighbouring vacant rooms, toilets that stink in general, cut fruits recycled for breakfasts for days till they are over -- if these are some of the "jewels" of the "Raj" that you wish to experience and cherish for the rest of your life, please do visit this property. Incidentally this is the only property till date where we were welcomed by a garland - pretty sure that the same garlands are reused :D)

We had to raise a hue and cry over the bedding issues mentioned above - for an hour the hotel staff struggled under the supervision of their manager to provide us clean sheets from their store. They failed to provide freshly cleaned quilt cases - all they had were stained and recycled ones from the adjacent vacant rooms. So in the cold of December we had to sleep without blankets and quilts and that too with a small kid!! The level of apathy of the staff is so much that these people did not even bother to get few quilt / blanket covers cleaned the next day - so we had to sleep without blankets / quilts even the following night.

The property is marketed as a top notch one - probably it has seen its hey days and is in doldrums currently. The setting is beautiful but that's all. Sincere advise to fellow travellers is to avoid it by all means.

Room Tip: Probably none of the rooms are clean - so best bet is to go and inspect and opt for it as a last res...

If you close to Orcshha and you have time to stop, it is worth of it. Spend one hour here, eat a good lunch and continue your journey. You will feel yourself as a British diplomat or nobleman in the beginning of 20 century. Beautiful environment and nice staff.

This is a beautiful setting but the room was a disappointment. Carpets dirty and bathroom had broken toilet. On opening the door onto terrace in the morning all was forgiven. Such a tranquil sight of the river and countryside. Nice to climb onto the roof and walk around looking down on the well presented gardens.

Restaurant rather soul less. Food poor in the evening as was breakfast. Tried to remember this is India and not Western Standards but could have been cleaner rooms.

WFI available free in reception.

I recently had my all marriage functions at this place and it was an amazing and unforgettable experience. The staff arranged everything from transport to food and dj to lights. Family Members had an adventure as well going for river rafting. I booked the whole property for 2 days n it was jus perfect for everything. Located in a perfectly natural forest location I wud recommend dis for everyone!!!

We were met at the Jhansi station as promised by the hotel, We arrived at night and were very warmly greeted by Mr Sood and his staff. A quick look outside at the lawns that are set in a quadrangle, with the low profile of the building surrounding it promised a trip back to the past. It looked lovely. We had no idea this was built only fifteen years ago, so is a good attempt to recreate the past both in the internal decor as well as the exterior appearance though there is still room for getting the blend right. We were whisked to our room [set on the river] and settled in properly and shown how things work. Very spacious, but a few deficiencies in bedside lights and toilet mirror lights and switches a little tough to locate. Very comfortable bed and we slept solidly once we decided to turn in later that night. We then left for the sound & Light show almost immediately.
The son et lumiere at the Palace gave an amazing insight into the fascinating history of Orchha and the Bundelkhand region, so we automatically viewed the hotel through that prism since the same family is involved.
We feel they are missing a trick in not playing up all the history, the intrigues, alliances, battles and above all the courage of the dynasty in that period. Regular lectures, discussion groups etc about the entire Bundelkhand region, and hosted by the hotel, could be fascinating and pull in great interest. We felt that the hotel was not well enough equipped with brochures, catalogues etc or about details of the son et lumiere and other sightseeing possibilities.
Early morning on the sit-out behind the room overlooking the river was quite lovely, but the sun was playing hookey that morning behind clouds. Otherwise we were told it's a lovely sight at sunrise since the rooms face east. The lawn and buildings were being cleared up from the nights activities, but still looked very regal.
The restaurant was adequate, friendly service, but limited selection on the breakfast buffet as was the case at the dinner buffet.
Clearly, the hotel is still a work in progress but has enormous potential, and we left with a warm feeling that we would like to go back again. We were there just for a night so did not try out the pool etc.

Room Tip: The rooms along the river seem the better located as that is the east and the sunrise is meant to be...
