Worst experience of my life yet.
The owner is friendly as in most reviews - a bit chatty but a good person and helpful with info about the place. but that is where the good things start and stop, atleast for me.
Reached at 10.30 in the night, the owner had arranged for our transfer from Jhansi railway station. checked in. Suggested and also arranged for home-cooked food from his own house. so far so good.
Had booked for 2 nights in their best room - the one with the fort views. well u can see the fort but obscured by the building next to it and by the tables etc on their own balcony.
The balcony/ terrace - it is a common area with all the people on the floor spending time here, so we were forced to hear all the discussions going on, even though all we wanted was to get some rest.
The view - well didn't get much of it because we couldn't keep the curtains open because of all the people there and the windows themselves could not be opened because of the mosquitoes.
The room - pretty good sized, though not very big. BUT it did not have anything to put our things on - no shelves, no cupboards, no tables, nothing except the bed. asked the owner for some chairs and a table, had to carry it myself to the room for there are no attendants or helpers.
Also had to ask for blankets and also for clean pillow covers.
The bathroom - There was no hot water for a shower when we arrived. tried everything but to no avail. finally asked the owner, he also tried a few things - but nothing. then after about 1 hr or so, we got hot water.
Sleep - apart from all sounds and noises in the terrace, there was something in the bed or the sheets or where i don't know..... but i had a mighty big rash on my back started like bites spreading all over my back with very severe itching...... no sleep...finally had to take anti-allergic medicine--- went to sleep at around 2 am.
Morning - woke up to the sounds of chatter of people wanting to see the sunrise at 5.30 am. in the terrace. tried sleeping again but the noises kept increasing with staff continuing when the guests left after sunrise.
Finally decided to leave - left at 6.30 am. thankfully got our money for the 2nd night returned.
Moved around in Orchha, visited the fort and river. Do go to the river behind the fort if you are in Orchha, it is beautiful and peaceful.
Finally in the afternoon, we moved around town searching for hotels - found a lot of good, cheap places. In the end stayed just next door to Ganapati hotel in Hotel Deep Regency.... much better room, much better service, and cheaper (Rs 800 compared to Rs 1000 in Ganapati ). The rooms didnt have any views, but the roof had incomparable view of the fort and temple both. And the staff arranged for our dinner under the stars. Thankfully this ended the visit to Orchha on a happy note before we proceeded to Khajuraho.
And if you want a good room with a view, go to Fort View Guest House - they have beautiful rooms with great views. Unfortunately they did not have empty rooms on the day we were searching.
