“pretty place but extremely rude staff”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

Extremely rude and sarcastic staff who constantly complained when we asked for something. Very slow service and most of the time the kitchen was closed. We were told we all had to go to sleep at 11 as they needed to sleep. Nice rooms though however the shower leaked throughout the whole room and when asked to help fix it no one came. They tried to rip us off for camel safaris by almost double the normal price.

Loved staying at Milkman, great backpacker vibe. Lots of people to chill out with and the staff are really nice. Our room was small and without a bathroom but it was clean and very cheap and we were pretty satisfied with it. The restaurant is a great place to hang out in and eat and they have a roof top garden! Would recommend this place to anyone

Stayed nearly two weeks in spring 2014. Mostly in the dormitory and a couple of nights in a double room (also more than one in the hammock). Honestly couldn't ask for more, cheap - even for India - clean and comfy, good food, nice little rooftop garden with tortoises and a hammock overlooking the Snake Mountain Range, chill atmosphere and friendly manager. 5 minute walk from main street and virtually everything else. Definitely one of my favourite hostels.

Room Tip: The incredibly cheap dormitory is all you need for a decents night sleep, but all rooms are great to...

Fourth time I stayed here. Always lovely, good food, good hangout and affordable rooms. Be fair and talk to the staff and you'll get whatever you need without even leaving the place. Recommendation !!

Room Tip: First and 3rd floor are the best

Milkman

We arrived late at milkman without a reservation and they gave us a very warm welcome and didn't seem to be bothered that it was after 11pm.

We were initially shown a room on the ground floor which was 300 rupees, it was a good price for the room but a little damp and cramped for the two of us so we opted for a larger and brighter room on the second to top floor costing 600 rupees. The room was clean and the shower was great with a big bathroom.

The building is nice and set a little back from the main bizarre with great views from the roof. Also on the top floor is a decent dorm, beds cost 100 per night so fantastic if you are a lone traveller and looking to meet people or on a tight budget.

The laundry service is great and fairly priced.

Wifi was patchy but possibly as so many people were connected at once.

There is a really nice family feel about the place.

The restaurant 'ohh la la cafe' is a good spot to meet people and has an huge collection of books which are available for guests to read whilst there, personally I think milkman only downfall is the restaurant, I have had much better food in India but even so it's fairly priced and convenient for breakfast and you before you head out. The guys who work in the restaurant were really friendly.

I would recommend milk man to other travellers.

There are two things to say about these guesthouse: first, its rooms are really ok and mostly cleaned. Also the restaurant top roof is really cosy and the atmosphere is nice with the other travellers. BUT the service is so bad! It happened to me and to friends of mine the day after: we called them in the morning, they said "yes, we have a room" and finally nothing was available once we get there. They finally found a solution but they really don't carry much about customers! Also we wanted to have dinner on the roof top, at 22 p.m. they told us they had no gaz anymore to cook. My indian friend cale along and ask them how they could cook for the next morning then... they answer "ok we can do something". It is not about racism, it is about being lazy. Then he brought the dinner, but shut all the lights off without saying anything more than "we are close".
Honnestly, even if this guesthouse has nice room abd atmosphere, this should not be sufficient for itself and I don't recommend it because of the bad services that we got during these 3 days.

I arrived in Pushkar at the start of the camel fair, when accommodation is hard to find and prices are jacked up. The Milkman provide extra capacity during the fair with dorm-style beds on the roof, if you're on a shoestring budget (which I wasn't). They managed to give me a room which was still fairly reasonably priced, and comfortable. The bedding was clean, though the pillows were lumpy and the sheets full of holes. Their location is pretty good, down a little back street in the centre of town, giving a bit of peace and quiet from the bustle of the main street and the fair.

I personally have no complaints about the Milkman or its staff, though female travellers should beware. There is one young male staff member in particular - you will realise who it is pretty quickly - who has no concept of appropriate behaviour and personal boundaries. As a male traveller, it's a minor nuisance, more amusing than annoying (hanging around, asking lots of questions, wanting to friend you on Facebook, that sort of thing), though with female travellers it goes a step beyond, into sexual harassment territory, or even sexual assault - a grab and forced kiss, for example. If you prefer your travel adventures not to include fighting off an over-amorous hotel manager, you might wish to look somewhere else.
