“a fantastic holiday and much of it was down to the hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2012

This hotel is perfectly settled in the heart of Seefeld, one of the most beautiful places in the world. The hotel sports a Tirol evening of entertainment once a week, which is great fun. The food was fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming us personally and remembering our names; we even returned to the hotel 2 years later and they remembered us straight away. I was quite young when i went and i really wanted to go on a horse and cart ride of Seefeld, but my parents had already booked to go and see something in the local area; so instead one of the staff offered to take me instead and was a fantastic evening; what a wonderful gesture. I will be returning to the hotel on my next trip to Seefeld as i have such nostalgia for this wonderful place.

Like others, we booked a last minute deal with Crystal. Prior to our departure we expressed our concerns to the Rep after reading all the negative comments on Trip Advisor. As soon as we arrived at the hotel our minds were put at rest; we got a really good feeling about the place. The receptionist was very helpful, and made us feel very welcome. We were allocated a large family room in the annex, although there was only the two of us. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, with a balcony and fabulous views of the mountains. The food was good, wholesome and tasty Austrian/Italian, and lots of it! The location was excellent, with the ski bus stopping outside, and just a few minutes walk into the centre of town. A big bonus was the fabulous afternoon tea and cake which we looked forward to every day. The hotel also has a really nice health suite, once again, spotlessly clean, with a lovely warm swimming pool, which we used most days after skiing. Well done! to the Tyrol Hotel and Crystal Holidays. We had a fabulous time!

Room Tip: The annex is a lot newer the the main hotel.

After all of the negative comments about this hotel I thought it only fair to put the record straight. We had a lovely stay here and the staff were excecllent and could not do enough for us, the food was fine and the rooms were excellent. A good location and a lovely resort for cross country skiing I would recommend it to anybody.

Just returned yesterday from a week's stay at this hotel through a last minute Crystal deal. I write this as the previous negative comments almost caused a divorce in our household due to my husband deciding to read reviews for the hotel on this site after I'd booked it (he has never visited Austria previous to this and he hadn't skied). I've stayed in Seefeld before although not at this hotel. Hotel location is fantastic, just 500 yards from main ski school nursery slopes and bus station for ski buses, although there is a stop for the Rosshutte at the Seefelder hotel about 100 yards up from the hotel Tyrol. Let's not forget the location, a small town in the Austrian mountains...this isn't Birmingham, London, Newcastle, Leeds..it's Austria and a rural town at that...therefore the ambience and decor within the hotel may not be what the less experienced traveller being used to British food and Benidorm-style holidays is used to. Also it is a skiing/snowboarding holiday so the importance to myself is the snow conditions, the slopes and probably least of all the hotel and food. The heating system in this hotel is second to none, in fact it was probably bordering on being too warm at times within the room. We actually had a suite (room 202) which yes was dated by British standards decor-wise but was typically Austrian which was cleaned and the linen and towels changed daily, no shortage of boiling hot water to bathe/shower in and beds certainly weren't uncomfortable. As for the food, well if your family are used to the British takeaway scene and exist on convenience foods then maybe you will struggle so bed and breakfast may be a better option as there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to eat in either during the day or of an evening. However the breakfast was full continental with a selection of breads/croissants/buns, butter, jams/marmalade/nutella, toast if required, bacon and scrambled eggs, ham/salami/cheeses, tea, coffee, selection of juices and fruit. Between 3-5 they served free tea/coffee/juice along with two types of cake on a help yourself basis which allowed you as much as you like, then for dinner at night each night there was a choice of two soups with accompanying bread, then a salad selection including about 12 dishes consisting of beetroot, lettuce, grated carrot, tuna, sweetcorn, potato salad, etc, for main meal each night there was a choice of pasta, meat or fish, and then you helped yourself to potatoes and vegetables (these varied from roasties to wedges, or boiled, and the vegetables were usually carrots, green beans, cauliflower), again you helped yourself to these so could pile your plate as high as you like, as well as being able to head to the salad bar if you preferred extra salad with your main. Then for dessert it was a choice of 2 cakes and a selection of fruit each night. I don't usually write reviews whether they are good or bad on this site but I felt compelled to write following my husband's experience of reading what was written (as a traveller who had never been to this country or town never mind the hotel before) and in fact thankfully he had to admit that there was absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel and in fact he was pleasantly surprised with what it had to offer. Ivan and his staff could not be more accommodating or helpful. Like I said earlier if you are used to typical British fast food and are requiring this on holiday then definitely the B&B option is probably wiser as there are plenty of establishments offering this type of food within the town. Please think twice before writing such negative comments as you may spoil someone's holiday before it has begun. Thankfully I have visited the area before so knew what to expect. Rant over! Happy holiday!

PS: Seefeld has great nursery slopes and a good ski school - my husband had the full beginner's week and although not that taken with the sport itself he found his instructor Mary lovely and the area they skied safe and picturesque.

Room Tip: I'm not good with lifts so I always ask for a low floor - not sure that would equate to always g...

We booked a last minute deal with Crystal and were not expecting much after checking the reviews on Tripadvisor. However, the hotel wasn't as bad as we expected and the staff were pleasant and helpful enough, but we didn't make any complaints. The bedroom was spacious, a bit dated but clean. We did hear a whirring noise in the night and the mattresses were a bit lumpy. The bathroom needed a bit of modernising and we ran out of hot water one evening. The steam room and whirl pool were not in working order, however the sauna was - just watch out for naked Europeans! The pool was open although we didn't use it ourselves so can't comment on the temperature.

The breakfast buffet was good, served 7.30 - 10, continental with hot scrambled egg. Lots of tasty breads to choose from. Free tea and cakes are served between 3 & 5pm in the bar area which is great after you've been skiing. The evening meal was a bit hit and miss. The main complaint being that some of the food was not always hot enough. It was all thoroughly cooked so no danger of food poisoning but not kept hot. The salad bar was good. They will serve tap water if you don't want to buy drinks, but prices were reasonable - 2.80 Euros for a glass of wine. We always ate at 7pm to ensure we got hot food which was plenty late enough for us. If a good late evening meal is important to you, you might be disappointed.

The hotel has a storage area for skis downstairs which didn't seem particularly secure as the door was always unlocked in the daytime. I presume it was locked at night but didn't check. We used our own lock to secure our skis. There is a table tennis table in the room next door although you'd never know it if the door is shut!

The ski bus stops just up the road from the hotel and is very handy for Rosshutte, but to get to Gschwandkopf you have to get to the other side of town which proved more difficult than we expected. The buses run in a figure of 8 stopping halfway in town. There are 2 buses but they do exactly the same route in the same direction so no idea why they have different names or colours!

All in all we enjoyed our stay and it proved good value for money. We got a half board deal for the same price as bed & breakfast so were happy.

Room Tip: Room 129 is at the back of the hotel with a bath

We booked a last minute cheap deal with Crystal and after checking the pictures on the website didn't have high expectations of the hotel. The bedrooms were very old and dated however were clean. For the duration of our holiday we had no hot water in the sink or shower. We could have a hot bath but only before 5.00pm! The explaination was that there was a water pressure problem and that was just the way it was. The swimming pool was cold everyday and the staff just seemed to dismiss this, the steamroom or whirlpool didn't work all week and no effort seemed to made to fix it. We were informed that dinner would be served between 7pm and 9pm, when we arrived at 8.00pm the main course food was all stone cold. We complained on a number of occasions but this was also dismissed by the staff who by this stage were being rude and again no apology was ever offered. We opted to eat out as we were aware of the health risks to serving cold food. Never pick this hotel to stay in when there are so many nice hotels in Seefeld. You have been warned!!!!

Last minute cheap deal so not expecting too much from this hotel but it did not meet even these extectations. The rooms although clean were very basic and the food was dreadful. Luke warm buffet food which is not only awful to eat it is very dangerous! We raised our concerns with the Crystal rep but both the hotel and crystal dismissed our complaint. We read the reviews on this hotel when we got home and it seems that the cold pool and nothing else working is not new and it has been like this for a few years. The main problem was the hotel managements complete disregard for health and safety, it almost seemed that they did not know what they were doing. And when you raise a complaint you can forget friendly staff!! Some very weird things happened like our lightbulbs being unscrewed?? Trust me there are some lovely cheaper hotels in Seefeld and it is a beautiful resort, stay somewhere else!
